Back in late 1968, Elvis Presley had been out of the spotlight for a while — unusual for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. That all changed with the TV show that became known as The ’68 Comeback Special, in which he was dressed head to toe in black leather, thrilled an intimate and viewers nationwide and reclaimed his throne in a single night.
Now NBC is marking the golden anniversary of that golden television moment with The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special, a look back at NBC’s top-rated show of the 1968-69 season. Veteran producer Ken Ehrlich is aboard for the new two-hour special, which will air in 2019.
In addition to the musical performances, The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special will showcase rare Presley footage and outtakes and interviews from those involved in the original special, including director Steve Binder. It also will feature Tba music stars...

For a show that claims to love creating big “moments,” American Idol sure is willfully missing out on some golden opportunities this season.
I’m referring to the show’s elimination process. Once a staple of the Idol experience, it has essentially been reduced to an afterthought. For all the time and energy ABC devotes to endearing its contestants to the viewers, it’s kind of shocking how those same contestants are quickly, unceremoniously booted from the stage when it’s revealed that they aren’t moving forward.

The “Blade Runner 2049” original score has been at the center of a mystery ever since Denis Villeneuve’s regular collaborator, Jóhann Jóhannsson, left the project over the summer and Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch came on board to replace him. Anyone who feared Zimmer’s involvement with the sequel would mean his usual bombast (see “Dunkirk” for the latest example) can rest easy, however, as the entire original score is now streaming online.
In an ironic twist, Zimmer’s work finds the composer channeling his inner Jóhannsson, as the score is full of ambient tones and airy soundscapes (albeit with a Zimmer-inflected electronic spin). The complete soundtrack clocks in at over an hour and includes songs from Frank Sinatra (“Summer Wind,” “One For My Baby”) and Elvis Presley (“Suspicious Minds,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love”), which should only add another level of intrigue on to the spoiler-protected film.

At a time when few contemporary rock stars roam the Earth, Dan Auerbach stands out as an anomaly—both a purveyor of gut-punching guitar leads with the Black Keys, and also an audio artisan with a relentless commitment to his craft. Both qualities have elevated him to a Madison Square Garden headliner and one of the most in-demand record producers in the industry. Sometimes accused of standing on the shoulders of classic rock giants who have come before, Auerbach went straight to the source on his second solo disc, Waiting on a Song.

Ubisoft released Rocksmith 2014 Edition back in 2013 to a positive reception, and has continued to release downloadable songs for the real guitar-based rhythm game on a consistent basis since. Now, almost three years after the game’s original release, the publisher has announced plans to add some welcome new features to it, and best of all, it won’t cost existing players a cent.
Rocksmith 2014 Edition – Remastered will launch at retail on October 4, and for those who already own the original version of the game, it will be incorporated for free as part of a software update. While it doesn’t sound like the core gameplay will receive notable changes, what Ubisoft has already announced for the update sounds like a wealth of subtle but welcome additions that will improve the overall experience.
The aim of Remastered seems to be in improving and expanding the capabilities of the core game’s menus and tools.

“Mad Men” begins its final stretch of episodes on Sunday night at 10 on AMC, and we asked a handful of TV critics, as well as several TV producers (some of whom have had experience ending their own shows) to predict what might happen when all is said and done for Don Draper and friends. Some took the assignment very seriously. Some opted for the ridiculous. Some fell in between. Damon Lindelof (Co-creator, "Lost"/"The Leftovers") There is a knock on Pete's door. He answers. There's a ten year old child standing there in a suit. "Hello, father..." he says, "I just want you to know that I am going to write a television show one day. And my portrayal of you will Not be flattering." Pete runs his hand through his receding hairline, shaken, but imperious. "What's your name, little boy?" The bastard son glares at his father, "Matthew." he says.

Tonight marks the end of Hostages on CBS. Though the "limited series" has not been officially cancelled, the ratings have been so poor that there's just no way that they're going to bring it back for a second season.
On the two final episodes -- titled "Suspicious Minds" and "Endgame" -- Duncan (Dylan McDermott) discovers Sandrine's (Sandrine Holt) betrayal and decides to use her to save Nina (Francie Swift) and Sawyer (Lola Cook). Before Ellen (Toni Collette) operates on President Kincaid (James Naughton), the First Lady (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.
What do you think? If you've seen the finale, was it a satisfying ending to the series? Do you think they could have realistically made another season -- either with some of the same characters or, with completely new ones? Would you have...

"Hostages" concludes with two back-to-back episodes Monday (Jan. 6), much the way the season has unwound. It requires leaps of faith from viewers as operatives triple-cross each other. Many die, and even those who are supposed to live happily ever after probably won't.
Part 1
In "Suspicious Minds," Col. Thomas Blair (Brian White), a leader of plot to assassinate the president, kidnaps FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle's (Dylan McDermott) wife and daughter.
Ah, karma. Carlisle, of course, is the leader of a band of kidnappers who have been holding surgeon Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) and her family hostage, demanding she kill the president during surgery.
Carlisle wanted in on the plot so he could harvest the president's bone marrow to save his wife, who is dying from leukemia. Nina (Francie Swift) is the daughter the president (James Naughton), fathered when he raped a reporter in 1978.

In the previous episode of Hostages, Ellen told Duncan she would not kill the President, but made a deal with him to save his wife if he would protect her kids. In a show of good faith, Duncan staged Jake's death so he could be sent into hiding and referred the Sanders' family to someone who could help them disappear after the surgery. Meanwhile, Nina tried to go on the run after learning what her family had been up to, but was cornered at the airport by Blair. And Duncan and the team learned about Sandrine's betrayal.
In this week's two-hour season finale, "Suspicious Minds"/"Endgame," Ellen finally operates on President Kincaid and Duncan makes a last-ditch effort to save his family. Read on to find out if Hostages continues to hold our attention with the season's final hours.

A mysterious young boy turns up in Sleepy Hollow this week, and before you know it, lots of people are sick. (Kids = germ factories, am I right?) Before the creeping black veins of badness are too far gone, let’s review what happened in “John Doe.”

Memphis, Tenn. — It was 1973, and Elvis Presley's comeback was in fifth gear.
After years of making mediocre movies, he had returned to touring and performing in Las Vegas. In January of that year, he staged the "Aloha from Hawaii" concert live via satellite, viewed by a billion people worldwide.
But, due to a contractual obligation, he also needed to create new material. He and manager Col. Tom Parker decided that Presley's beloved Memphis was the place to do it.
The result was two recording sessions at Stax Records, the influential studio where Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave and others created the "Memphis soul" sound in the 1960s and early 1970s.
Presley's sessions in July and December 1973 produced country, R&B and pop songs that were released in three separate albums.
Forty years after Presley's Stax sessions, RCA Legacy is releasing the three-cd box set "Elvis at Stax: Deluxe Edition" on Tuesday.

I really loved "Suspicious Minds" for two reasons:
I absolutely adored the relationship growth between Zoe and Wade. We spent plenty of time with Lavon and Lemon.
In case you didn't know, Lemon and Lavon are my favorite pairing on the show and Cress Williams agrees (as he told me in a interview a few weeks back). Seeing them featured so prominently made me extremely happy Dixie fan.
Before I get to Lemon and Lavon, let me talk about everyone else first.
Starting with Brick and Magnolia, as they tried to figure out what it's like to live without Lemon. This is the first time we see just how much they depended on Lemon and her contributions to the Breeland family. In the midst of their struggles, we enjoyed some great comedy. Watching Magnolia turn the laundry purple and survive off of peanut butter made me laugh harder than it should have.

Hart of Dixie turned serious last night, as George and Brick bonded and The CW drama kept things mostly emotional throughout "If It Makes You Happy."
Will the tone revert back to comedy on next Tuesday's "Suspicious Minds?" Not for Lavon, not based on the following teaser, which focuses on the Mayor taking the fall for his new campaign manager - and stepping right into a new scandal as a result:
Hart of Dixie Promo: "Suspicious Minds"
Elsewhere on the episode, look for Zoe to grow jealous when she spots Wade with another woman; and for Brick and Magnolia to struggle with a few household chores in Lemon's absence.

One of the themes of this season of Hart of Dixie is the constant search one has for independence. Dr. Hart, George, and Lemon are each looking to find themselves away from their romantic lives, while Lavon and Ruby strive to find direction in their careers, even if they have to do battle politically to find it. All this maneuvering and the requisite growing pains will be having long-reaching impact on one another and the rest of BlueBell, but at this point, personal evolution might have to trump being the topic of conversation in town for a little while.
Below are the dates, episode titles, and full episode descriptions for the final two Hart of Dixie episodes this month.
