It’s always odd walking away from an average film, realizing there are plenty of flaws, and still kind of liking it. That’s the case with Chasing Mavericks. It’s a story about surfing. It’s a story about working hard toward a difficult task. It’s a story about a 15-year-old kid with a big smile.

I know it’s like “totally cliche” for a film fan to cite Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut as two of their favorite directors, but there are good reasons why these two are so revered. Last year saw the premiere of Emmanuel Laurent’s Two In The Wave (Deux De La Vague) at Cannes. The film, narrated by historian and critic Antoine de Baecque focuses on the relationship between Godard and Truffaut.
