The romantic two-hander has become a genre in and of itself thanks to such great films as “Before Sunrise” and “Weekend” (even the Obamas got their own version in this year’s “Southside With You”), but few ever dare to hit the erotic limits of Jacques Martineau and Olivier Ducastel’s “Paris 05:59: Theo & Hugo.” Winner of the Audience Award at the Berlin Film Festival Teddy Awards earlier this year, the film is told in real time and evolves from a 20-minute orgy into a sweet duet between two Frenchmen who have fallen in love at first sight.

Returning to an important place in her career development, Lena Dunham gave the keynote address at the South by Southwest Film Festival on Monday (March 10).
The "Girls" creator spoke about using her babysitting savings to shoot her first film for the event, which was rejected. However, her second short, "Family Tree," made the cut.
Later, her 2010 movie "Tiny Furniture" took home the top prize, sending her on a fast path that brought her to HBO.
Addressing young filmmakers in the audience, the 27-year-old star shared, "I want to make people laugh. ... I want to be of service to the causes that are dear to me and be an agent of change specifically for women and girls, and on a purely selfish level, I want to continually challenge myself to grow as an artist."
As for what she "absolutely" does not care about, she says, "Unfortunately, ratings, which unfortunately HBO would...

Evidently, premium cable channels aren’t immune to the cancellation bug, either. Though most news about shows getting pink slips after their first seasons comes courtesy of major networks like NBC and Fox, HBO decided yesterday that it will not be moving forward with second seasons of two of its latest half-hour comedies: Family Tree and Hello Ladies.
Family Tree, a documentary-style comedy that starred Bridesmaids breakout Chris Dowd as a man tracing his lineage and coming to terms with his zany family members, never found much of an audience when it debuted last May. Ratings were consistently low throughout the eight-episode first season, despite warm critical reviews. HBO was clearly hoping to turn Family Tree into a comedy with the cult following of NBC mockumentaries like The Office and Parks and Recreation, but it just didn’t catch on in the way network heads were expecting it to.

Chris O'Dowd has joined the cast of The Coward.
Max Winkler will direct the adaptation of Nick Jones's 18th century-set play, with Adam Driver attached to star as the cowardly son of a nobleman.
After the son's six brothers have all been killed in duels, Driver's character hires a common criminal to fight on his behalf, and this will be O'Dowd's role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Driver and O'Dowd worked together previously on Lena Dunham's HBO series Girls, although O'Dowd will not return for the upcoming third series.
O'Dowd is currently filming new HBO series Family Tree, and will appear in Marvel's upcoming Thor: The Dark World.

Amy Seimetz is having a moment. The writer-actress-filmmaker has for the better part of a decade been making a name for herself on the indie film circuit by working with everyone from Lena Dunham on "Tiny Furniture" to Joe Swanberg" in "Alexander the Last" to anchoring Megan Griffith's acclaimed Sundance character study "The Off Hours." This year, however, marks Seimetz biggest one yet. First came Shane Carruth's "Upstream Color," in which she co-starred with the writer-director in one of the most perplexing indies to come along in ages. Friday sees the theatrical release of her directorial debut "Sun Don't Shine," a 16mm shot, micro-budget portrait of a couple (Kentucker Audley and Kate Lyn Sheil) on the run for murder. In August you can catch her in Adam Wingard's acclaimed horror pic "You're Next," opposite Ti West and Swanberg. And on the small screen, she can soon be...

Chicago – Every once in awhile, a year feels like it just belongs to a certain actor or actress. 2011 was the year of Jessica Chastain. It looks like 2013 could be the year of Amy Seimetz. She’s starring in the now-playing (and brilliant) “Upstream Color,” will appear on HBO’s “Family Tree” and AMC’s “The Killing” in the next few months, stars in the indie “Be Good” and acclaimed horror film “You’re Next,” and, this week, her directorial debut, “Sun Don’t Shine,” lands on VOD and in NY theaters before an expansion later this year. Like seemingly everything that Seimetz touches lately, it’s great. Confident, stylish, and with a remarkable sense of place, “Sun Don’t Shine” truly works.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
“Sun Don’t Shine” opens with a fight. Crystal (Kate Lyn Sheil) and Leo (Kentucker Audley) are clearly under an immense amount of stress and not handling it well.

The 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival is set to run June 17-27 in a brand new location. Oh, it’s still in L.A, but it’s moving across town, from Westwood — where it’s been held the past few years — all the way over to Downtown.
The main “hub” for the fest will be the new L.A. Live complex, but there will also be screenings at other locations, such as the Downtown Independent and Redcat theaters. The city is really trying to build downtown up into a major arts and culture hub, so the festival moving there fits in with that agenda. Film Independent, the organization that runs Laff, also runs the annual Independent Spirit Awards, an event that also moved downtown — from Santa Monica — this year.
On Bad Lit, I tend to like to put up festival lineups that include days and times of screenings. However, since I...
