- The film is meant to show the horrors of being alone in a deadly situation, and the tale is about how Aron Ralston spent 127 hours struggling to get out of a canyon after his arm gets pinned by a boulder. This is all shown accurately and in full vivid graphic detail, and the film gets more and more intense as it progresses until the climax.
- A few emotionally intense moments.
- Aron and two young women go spelunking, steadying themselves in a crevice. Aron purposely lets go, causing him to fall into a pool of water far below, and the others have an alarmed reaction to it. After realizing that Aron is safe, the young women fall in after him.
- Aron seems to become delirious at some points. Some may find this unsettling.
- Aron has to drink his own urine at some point, in order not to dehydrate. He almost vomits.

- Aron stabs his arm with a dull knife, and some blood pours out.
- Aron has to amputate his own arm to be free (can be very gut wrenching for some viewers).
- Aron falls into a small crack, his arm crushed by a boulder. There is a mild amount of blood on the wall where his arm is pinned. He accidentally hits his head twice (hard) on rock when trying to get loose.
- Aron amputates his arm and it is extremely graphic and realistic.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Having to cut off his hand in order to survive, it requires him to break the bones in his arm. The amputation scene is very violent and graphic. When he has to cut the nerves in his arms, it is causes him unbearable pain. Also when he snaps the bones in his arm the noises may be very disturbing. Also during the amputation disturbing noises are heard.
