- A frozen man partially thaws out under a bank of heat lamps, looks around, and the person experimenting on him, Virgil, makes an audio log that the reanimation progress is in its final phrase. He tells the man that he's free to go, but when the man stands up, his still-frozen legs snap. His body falls on the floor, and the rest of his body shatters. Virgil that the reanimation is unsuccessful, and there's 36 hours to the client deadline.
In the park, Mary is put on a bench and the vines placing her there draw back. Mary wakes up, notices a thorn in her arm, and pulls it out.
Ryan calls Luke to her apartment, and shows her a newspaper that was framed and delivered it to her. She's part of Gotham's "30 Under 30", and a note was delivered with the picture. It's from Marquis saying he'll see "sis" at the press junket. Ryan insists that she's a rising star, and Luke points out that Ryan has a public date with a brother that Jada told her to stay away from or she'd come after Ryan. Ryan says that Charlie Cooke, the head of Wayne Enterprise's PR and one of Bruce's inner-circle guys, has gotten dozens of requests for interviews with Ryan, the new CEO of Wayne Enterprises, at a gala at a hotel celebrating the 30. Cooke has warned Ryan that if she tries to skip out on the event, the reporters will keep trying to get answers about her.
Luke asks Ryan what her plan is for when she runs into Marquis, and Ryan says that she'll give him the cold shoulder. Sophie will be there as well if Ryan needs a "convo blocker", because her sister Jordan is there for the community center. Mary comes in and tells them that she spent the night in Gotham Park. Luke excuses himself, and Ryan tells Mary that Luke is frustrated because they don't believe they trust him.
Ryan tells Mary that she's there to listen, but has a busy day. Mary says that she needs an active listener, and Ryan tells her that she'll meet her for happy hour later.
In her cell, Alice rubs at her arm at the thought of the nanobots in her body, She calms down, and a guard comes in and gives Alice her mail. They're from Jacob, but Alice figures they're delusions. The guard says that's her problem, and Alice snaps his neck. Alice goes to the door window and calls for a watchman. When he comes, he doesn't see anything wrong. After a moment, the guard disappears and Alice calls the watchman back and tells him that she needs to speak to Renee.
Ryan goes to the hotel gala and Cooke, who is with her, tells her that a photo session slot opened up. Ryan poses for pictures, and Marquis comes over and talks to her in the middle of the session. He tells Ryan to show Gotham the new fire that's taking over. Charlie comes over and tells the photographers that's it, escorts Ryan away, and says that she should have her photo taken with Marquis because they're both icons.
After Charlie leaves, Marquis comes over and accuses Ryan of avoiding him. She says that being seen with him puts her business at risk. As a photographer comes over and snaps some shots, Marquis whispers to Ryan that he just wanted to spend time with his sister. His phone rings and Marquis steps away to take it.
Sophie is talking with Jordan, who says that as an honoree she's there in the hopes that she can raise money for the center. Sophie looks over and makes eye contact with Ryan, and Jordan notices. After a moment, Sophie says that she had a dream about being in bed sick and Ryan bringing her soup. Jordan figures that it was a dream about longing, and Sophie insists that it wasn't a sexual dream. Jordan isn't convinced, and Sophie says that her biological clock is ticking but Ryan doesn't have to be her girlfriend. Jordan points out that Ryan is hot, and Sophie quickly excuses herself to go to the restroom.
Virgil, posing as a reporter approaches Jordan and suggests he interview her private. When Jordan passes, Virgil injects her with a sedative and drags her off.
Later, Jada is in her office and brings up a news article on her laptop showing Ryan and Marquis together. Vesper calls Jada, and Jada tells Vesper that she has a scoop.
Renee picks up Alice and drops her off at Mary's clinic, and Alice says that she has information on how Batwoman can recover the zero-g sneakers that Batman used. Alice admits that it's just an act so she can talk to Batwoman, and Mary figures that there's a reason Alice had Renee get her out of Arkham. She says that something came up and they're called a pause on the trophy hunting, and Alice says that Renee might not agree. She gives Mary a phone to call Renee, and Mary agrees to make the call as Alice leaves the room on a wheeled chair.
At the gala, Charlie walks Ryan from interviewer to interviewer. Marquis is wearing a hat as a disguise. Sophie comes over and says that Jordan has disappeared and isn't answer her phone. She doesn't recognize Marquis so he introduces himself as Ryan's brother, and Charlie says the next reporter is ready. Ryan leaves with Sophie.
At the Batcave, Luke reboots the voice interface on the Batwing suit. The AI doesn't respond, and Luke complains about the "silent treatment". Luke asks if it's mad because he shut down the failsafe, and says that it's on him. He insists that it's his suit and his decision, and he's not turning the failsafe back on because it almost got him killed.
Ryan calls in and tells Luke that she needs an assist. He pings Jordan's phone and finds it laying on the floor. Sophie comes over and wonders if it's time to panic. Luke confirms that facial recognition hasn't seen Jordan leaving the hotel. Marquis runs over and tells Sophie that he got a tip Jordan was seen enter Room 1620, and Sophie and Jordan head there.
Ryan and Sophie break into the room, and find Jordan frozen alive with equipment nearby. Ryan recognizes the equipment as Mr. Freeze's design, and admits that someone must have found more than the original sample she recovered. Sophie says that she has to move Jordan, but Ryan warns that it's too dangerous. She says that they'll figure it out together.
The two women take Jordan to the clinic, and Mary examines Jordan. She confirms that the catalyst is based on Freeze's original formula, but it's been modified so its effect is inside of Jordan's cell instead of in a cryochamber. Mary warns that the process is more invasive, and warns that reviving Jordan could be dangerous. Alice looks on, and Sophie wonders why she's there. Mary says that it's not worth explaining, and if she can get a clean sample of the new freeze substance, she can bring Jordan out of cryo. Sophie figures that they should have Luke check every camera.
Alice has taken Jordan's phone, and tells them that the Black Glove Society experimented on Jordan. They live in the shadows and want to rule forever, and Sophie confirms via the phone that Jordan and her friends were collecting info on the Society. Jordan was going to use her speech at the gala to expose the Society. Alice tells Sophie that Jordan knew Sophie would try to talk her out of giving the speech, which is why Jordan didn't tell her older sister.
Jordan starts thawing, and Sophie notices and tells Mary that her sister's temperature isn't stable. Mary figures that the formula is breaking down, and Sophie tells Alice to come with her when she goes to search Jordan's apartment to see if she has any other evidence on the Society.
Luke gets the Society files from Sophie and communicates with Ryan, who has returned to the gala. He figures that none of the files are digital, and the Society does the freeze experiments at the hotel because everyone who threatens to expose them is there.
Ryan sees a coroner taken out a person's shattered body out on a stretcher. She figures the rest of Jordan's teams are targeted, and the person with the shattered body is one of them. Luke suggests that since the Society is big money, Marquis is one of them.
Marquis comes over to Ryan, and Luke prompts her to ask how he knew Jordan was going to room 1620. Marquis says that he knows a woman at the front desk, and housekeeper told her that she saw a woman who looked like Jordan, and the front desk clerk told Marquis. He says that he came to apologize, and he wanted to know Jada so bad but has figured she doesn't have his.
Marquis storms off, and Charlie complains that he couldn't reach Ryan on her phone. He shows her a newscast about Wayne Enterprise's stock has been dropping. Ryan asks for an explanation, and Charlie tells her that ten minutes ago, Vesper broke a story that Ryan has been diverting funds from the company into her own secret accounts. A CEO has confirmed that there's a problem with the accounts, and Charlie warns Ryan that she'll be arrested.
Ryan goes to 1620 to look for clues, and Luke tells her that Jada didn't fake the embezzlement. She figures that the stolen money was Batman's operating budget, and is now there, and Luke assures Ryan that Jada can only tell the money is missing, not where it's going to. Ryan tells Luke that there's nothing in the room, and he taps into the GCPD thermal cameras to see if there's any other rooms with equipment radiating cold.
Luke doesn't find anything, and Ryan tells him about the heat lamps in the room. She suggests that he scan for heat instead of cold if the Society were trying to thaw the victim out. Luke finds a "hot" room and directs Ryan, as Batwoman, to it.
Batwoman breaks into the room and finds the scattered pieces of the person who was experimented on. She finds the owner's ID, and Luke confirms that the woman was part of Jordan's group text. Luke confirms that the other man in the group text was the one the coroner wheeled out, and says that Jordan is the only one left.
Sophie and Alice go into Jordan's apartment and search for anything low-tech connected to the Society. While Sophie goes to the bedroom, Alice hallucinates the guard there, and Sophie comes in and wonders if Alice is talking to someone. Alice dismisses it as part of her "process", and Sophie goes to the bedroom. The guard tells Alice that she didn't want to read the postcards, and doesn't like the nanobots inside of her.
Alice notices an air vent, while the guard tells her that maybe if she knew what was real about herself, the rest of the world will fall back into place for her. Ignoring the guard, Alice opens the vent and finds a file inside with notes on the freeze equipment and the Society. Several men come in led by Virgil, and Virgil tells Alice that the file doesn't belong to her. Alice wonders if Virgil and his men are real, and Virgil says that he's there for everything that was scanned into Jordan's phone.
Alice hands over the file and the men attack her. Sophie comes in and attacks them, but they knock out both her and Alice.
At the clinic, Mary is trying to keep Jordan's body cold. Luke calls Mary and asks her for an update on her progress with Jordan. Mary says that she's trying to keep Jordan stable, and Luke says that he's judging her just like she's been judging his performance. Mary insists she spent a night in the park but no one cares, then gets an idea that plants have natural anti-freeze. She goes to a plant she's been studying and figures the key is to thaw from the inside not the outside, like plants to.
Alice and Mary are tied up and left in the apartment, and Sophie wakes up and smells gasoline. She wakes up Alice and points out that their attackers laid out a trail of gasoline-soaked books from them to the burners. Sophie says that they're in trouble because Alice thought Virgil wasn't real. Alice admits that her hallucinations are getting worse and she doesn't know what to do.
The burners set the gasoline-soaked books on fire, which spreads toward Sophie and Alice. Batwoman arrives with the freezing equipment and freezes the fire, then frees the two captive women.
The women go back to the clinic, and Sophie talks to her barely-conscious sister. She says that she will always support Jordan. Jordan can only smile, and Mary tells Sophie that Jordan's entire body is resetting and it will be a while until she can talk. Alice asks if they can eat now, and Ryan apologizes to Sophie for not finding out who the people are. Ryan explains that Luke figured out the Society agents were after the original documents that Jordan had scanned into her phone. Sophie figures that Ryan will need her help, and Ryan points out that they're going to be stuck with Alice as well.
Sophie tells Ryan about Alice's self-admitted problems, and Mary, overhearing, say that whatever meds the doctor are giving Alice at Arkham could give her a psychotic break. Alice, listening in, suggests that she could get a supervised work release from Arkham, and Mary would make sure she gets the proper meds. Someone will have to watch Alice, and Sophie figures she'll have to.
That night, Ryan returns to her office. Charlie and Luke are there, and Ryan says that she did nothing wrong and isn't going anywhere. Charlies believes her and figures that she made the wrong person an enemy and now she's the fall girl for Bruce's misdeeds. The PR man points out all of Bruce's strange behavior, and gives Ryan a press release that it's going out in the morning. It says that Ryan secretly negotiated a defense contract with ARGUS that the money was going to, and couldn't tell the company CEO because of the NDA.
Luke says that ARGUS will go along with it, and he has a friend there. He points out that the stock prices are still cratering, and Charlie says that they need to address it or they're at risk of a hostile takeover. The board of directors is demanding Ryan's resignation, and Chie says that it's the best shot they have at containing the crisis. He tells Ryan that his opinion is that if she's a CEO, they'll lose the company.
Once Charlie leaves, Luke says that they knew Jada was capable of it, and Ryan being her daughter doesn't matter to her. Luke says that Lucius was Bruce's partner, and Luke can't lose the place. Ryan asks what happens to Batwoman if she has no financial backing, and she'll stay and fight.
Later in the Batcave, Luke reactivates the failsafe. The Lucius AI turns to him, and Luke explains what's going on. He asks why the AI stopped talking to him, and the AI says that Luke repaired the system fault that was preventing it from talking to him. Luke doesn't know what it means, and the AI says that it has no power to act if not in Luke's best interests. When the AI asks what Luke wanted to say, Luke figures that he's not read to wear the suit and the AI agrees.
Ryan has Marquis meet her at the Hold Up, and asks him if Jada wants Wayne Enterprises. Marquis says that Jada had him sign NDAs so he can't talk about company business. Ryan says that she's not letting Jada take over Wayne Enterprises, and asks Marquis if they can stop Jada if they pool their resources.
Virgil meets with Jada and tells her that he has the answer she's been searching for. He gives Jada an injector gun, and says that they were able to adapt Fries' formula into a substance that can freeze and unfreeze organic matter. When Jada asks how he did it, Virgil says that he stole the idea from a rival research team. Jada doesn't care, and says that it's time for Marquis to take his leave of absence.
