We're just all kinds of thrilled to announce that Drew Daywalt, award-winning horror filmmaker and resident FEARnet blogger, has signed a deal with producer Eric B. Fleischman of Ebf Productions (Ritual, Two-Bit Waltz) to direct The Hurting Man, a supernatural horror feature based on his own original screenplay. If that news isn't awesome enough on its own, we should add that another genre luminary, Larry Fessenden (Habit, Wendigo, The Last Winter) will serve as Executive Producer on the film. In case you've been... I don't know, on Mars or something over the past few years, Drew burst onto the horror scene in 2007 with his award-winning short film Bedfellows, and since then he has directed dozens of acclaimed short films under the banner of Daywalt Fear Factory, episodes of the MTV horror-comedy series Death Valley, the webseries Camera Obscura and original programming for Tony Valenzuela's horror-centric channel BlackBox TV, and much more.

Actor Jack Klugman died on Christmas Eve. He was 90.
The actor was best known for his role as Oscar, the messy half of The Odd Couple, for which he won two Emmy awards, and as the lead in the procedural series Quincy M.E. However, Klugman had several roles on classic genre television shows, most notably The Twilight Zone.
Klugman appeared in four episodes of the anthology series throughout its run. In "A Passage for Trumpet," he played a suicidal trumpet player who gets caught between life and death. In "A Game of Pool," Klugman played a billiards champion who faces off against a dead legend. Klugman played a captain in "Death Ship," where a space ship crash lands and the crew discovers an identical version of themselves already there. And in "In Praise of Pip," Klugman played a small-time bookie who has a sudden change of heart - much to the dismay of his bosses.

Mobile is where the eyeballs are, and it’s surging, so adding content extensions on those attention-robbing devices in everyone’s pockets is a natural move. At this point, Camera Obscura was resting quietly on Dailymotion, now a full year since its release back in 2010 when we reviewed the series as a solid win. But since then, the gripping horror series from director Drew Daywalt and Mwg Entertainment hasn’t released new content after its four-week, 20-episode run. That didn’t stop Mwg however from releasing a Camera Obscura mobile game (on iTunes and Android) today at $0.99, along with in-app purchases of original songs from the series. There’s even a trailer for the game, which lets fans control Clara and other Camera Obscura characters from the series through the twisted demons and scenes of the show. He was on my directors to watch list I did almost 3 years ago and hasn’t slowed down any, if anything business has picked up for Daywalt. He cranks out some of the coolest short films there is and has put out some cool projects for FEARnet, Vh-1 and soon MTV which we’ll get to in this interview. Daywalt talks about his latest short 'Room 1'9 and what he’s working on next. Check out my latest Versus with one of the coolest directors working today, Drew Daywalt.

One thing we can say about Drew Daywalt is the guy makes cool stuff to watch! From the creepy ass web series Camera Obscura to his latest short simply called Room 19, he cranks them out like a madman on an assembly line and they are all lots of creepy fun to watch. He snuck this one out overnight but I was waiting in the shadows like a creepy web geek! Dig on it and let us know what you think!

The quick set up is two girls are getting ready to surprise their mother on her birthday, but she comes in and has a surprise of her own! The Closet will leave you not wanting to hide in your closet anytime soon, that's fo sure! ...

G4 (one of our favorite channels) and filmmaker/FEARnet blogger Drew Daywalt had the great idea to scare the bejeezus out of Dead Space 2 fans. The game is plenty scary and atmospheric (read our Dead Space 2 review for more on that). To really make people wet their pants, they brought in creature creator extraordinaire Jeff Farley (Pet Sematary, Camera Obscura) to bring one of Dead Space 2's necromorphs to life. See the results of this diabolic prank after the jump. Some of you may recognize porn star Nicki Hunter among the victims... Bonus: a picture of Drew Daywalt, yours truly and the monster at G4's studios:...

The room is quiet as actor Bradley James peers over at a sullen R.A. Mihailoff. “I’m trying to do right by you, Kris, but you’re giving me nothing,” says the exhausted officer. Mihailoff is off-screen, but nonetheless in character, replies, “I know, and I’m so very sorry.” Not a second later, the lovely Azure Parsons makes her way into the room, slams the door behind her and throws a file down onto the table. This writer is starting to wonder how many more takes that door can last before falling off its hinges. But there are more important matters at hand-like a psychopath covered in blood not answering some very important questions. We’ll answer some of these questions (and share some exclusive pics) below the jump, as Fango continues its set visit to My Name Is Kris Kringle, which we last told you about here. Part of what makes the horror genre so much fun is all the creatures lurking in the shadows. One man who knows that in particular is special effects creator Jeff Farley, whose work has recently been featured in "Camera Obscura", a new web series by Drew Daywalt that is currently being featured on Daily Motion as well as right here on Dread Central.
Farley, who grew up in Southern California, has made a name for himself over the last 25 years in the industry, working on such classics like The Serpent & The Rainbow, Shocker and Freddy’s Dead as well as modern cult faves like Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, Evil Bong, and Parasomnia. We recently had a chance to catch up with Farley to chat about how he got his start working in special effects and his collaboration with Daywalt on "Camera Obscura".

Drew Daywalt knows fear. After all, he’s the guy regularly giving fans a look into the “School of Fear” on FEARnet.com, and after establishing himself in the world of horror short films with Fewdio, Daywalt has now stepped out on his own with his Daywalt Fear Factory, which releases some of the eeriest short films you’ll find on the Internet.
Even though Daywalt has solidified his place as the premiere short-form horror stortyteller, the writer/director is about to embark on a new adventure as he recently announced that he’s collaborating with Fangoria for an upcoming feature film called The Ringbearer. The writer/director spoke to Dread Central on how he got involved with the legendary horror publication in its new venture into feature filmmaking as well as more on the release of his long-awaited Internet genre series "Camera Obscura" in conjunction with Dread Central and Daily Motion.

Web series producers are coming to know the waiting game is part of the game. We’re not talking the Darrelle Revis style holdouts (yet), but it does mean not always taking the first distribution offer that comes along. Without a mechanism in place to adequately promote—and monetize—a web series, waiting for the best deal can be the smarter move to recoup those non-trivial production costs. When a deal with another distributor for the series fell through last fall Mwg Entertainment was left in a position of releasing this well-hyped series on their own, or putting it up on the digital shelf in hopes of scoring a better option. They chose the latter. We were a part of their respectable PR push that included exclusive clips, teaser trailers and on-set photos of writer-director Drew Daywalt and his team crafting up some impressively gruesome effects. But then Halloween, the show’s target launch date,...

The announcement of a new web series often generates a great deal of excitement. From the die-hard fan looking for a new obsession to the casual viewer hoping for a few minutes of entertainment, the launch of a new web series brings hope and promise to its viewers. However, what happens to that prerelease excitement when there is a failure to launch? Today we want to look at some of the ramifications of missing one's launch window, as well as update the progress of a few of the web series that you have not missed. Very few web series receive any prerelease attention; those that do cannot afford to waste it. Last week, we discussed the various steps that a series can take to create the all important buzz. However, perhaps the most important step that a creator can take is to actual release the series in time to capitalize on the hype.

FEARnet blogger, horror director/writer/producer/guru and all around nice guy Drew Daywalt (Fewdio, Camera Obscura) spent a few nights working on his latest script aboard the 'haunted' Queen Mary ocean liner a few weeks ago. He live tweeted for two nights and now thanks to our friends at Dread Central, we have video proof. Hit the jump to check out the spooky video. From Drew Daywalt's Twitter feed: On Wednesday night, I'm going to the very haunted Queen Mary ocean liner (retired) where it's anchored in Long Beach. I'll be spending 2 days and nights there working on my new horror script as well as exploring the ship & tweeting live about my ghostly & writerly experiences....

Drew Daywalt has made a living working within the horror genre scaring the hell out of people. As you'll soon see in his upcoming Camera Obscura project, the guy really knows his way around the subject of ghosts and hauntings. Recently Drew had the tables turned on him when he spent a couple of evenings aboard a legendary haunted ship, California's Queen Mary -- in the vessel's most haunted room of course.
As you would expect, Drew had camera in hand for his entire stay, and what you'll see below is the footage that he shot and assembled for us here on DC. Footage you won't find anywhere else. Turn down the lights, let your imagination roam free, and enjoy.
The Haunted History of the Queen Mary, as per Wikipedia:
"Ghosts were reported on board the Queen Mary only after being permanently docked in California. Many areas are rumored to be haunted.

I’ve been keeping up with filmmaker Drew Daywalt on Twitter for some time now about his upcoming web-series, Camera Obscura. The series is being produced by Drew for Mwg Entertainment. Expect 20 episodes of a total creep-fest.
