Comedy Showcase: The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret
jboothmillard26 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I was happy to see the return of the Channel 4 series Comedy Showcase, which had many pilot episodes of potential comedy series, and this was one of them. Basically American advertiser Todd Margaret (Scary Movie 2's David Cross) makes himself look really impressive to the boss of a company trying to advertise a new energy drink. His boss Brent Wilts (Will Arnett) promotes him to become manager of the sales team at the branch in London, England, but it is obviously not going to be easy as he has no experience of British culture. After meeting love interest Alice (Sharon Horgan) at the café she works in, he watches his suitcase suspected as being a bomb blown up by the Bomb Disposal Officer (Fonejacker's Kayvan Novak). So then he goes to see the London branch, and it is just a room filled with boxes of the energy drink, and solo employee Dave (Being Human's Russell Tovey), and he has no idea how to sell it all. The most funny scene for me was Todd's attempt to promote and sell the energy drink in the café, and getting increasingly frustrated from the effects of drinking it. So then he has to find the house he will be renting, and it is the most awful sight ever, and the programme ends with him collapsing in exhaustion on the floor, and while sleeping on the floor in his clothes, peeing himself. I will admit it would need a lot more work put in to make it a little funnier than it was, but for Novak, Tovey, and of course Cross, I wouldn't mind if this turned into a full sitcom series. Good!
