The location for "Antebellum" was discovered by the director Michael Benni Pierce LONG before production started. It was the barn itself that inspired Pierce to get the scriptwriter J. Wilder Konschak to begin work on a story that incorporated the eerie landscapes and rotting interior. Initially, the script was written as a political satire, with zombies representing those who blindly follow political party lines. However, after some time, it was decided to go with a more traditional zombie film, with a twist of the supernatural.
