Don't believe the 1 star reviews...
thebradleymitchell10 December 2023
They are clearly written by people who either have a grudge against someone in the cast or the production company, or are just miserable people in general. How can this "not resemble a horror film in any way", yet "rely on typical horror tropes"? So my point stands, don't listen to the 1 star reviews. Now, for the movie. Was it great? No. Was it 1 star bad? Nope. I enjoyed the dark tone of this movie. It sends across a very depressing message and it works for the film. The actors did fairly well. I'm a Tobin Bell fan, so I was excited to see him in something other than Saw. Sure it may rely on some horror tropes, but I enjoy those. It's what got me loving horror in the first place. The dumb decisions, the corny kills. Although about an hour and 20 minutes in, there is a great kill scene. If you enjoy dark horror, give it a shot. I didn't regret watching it.

Saudi Horror Flick
stevendbeard10 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I saw The Cello, starring Samer Ismail-Breaking Bones_tv, The Worthy; Elham Ali-Heart Crime_tv, Whispers_tv; Tobin Bell-the Saw movies, The Quick and the Dead and Jeremy Irons-Justice League, Die Hard With a Vengeance.

This is a horror movie that was made in Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic. It uses both Arabic language-with sub titles-and English language. Samer plays a cello and wants to play in a big symphony but hasn't had his big break yet. Elham plays his encouraging girlfriend. Samer hears about a shop that sells unique instruments and decides to go and check it out. Tobin is the owner of the shop-nothing suspicious there-and sells Samer the cello, but doesn't tell him about the instrument's haunted past. Jeremy plays a music conductor that fills Samer in on the details of the cello, which includes it's origin from the 1700's and why it makes people that hear it being played-except for whomever is playing it-suddenly have murderous fits of rage and start killing other people.

It's rated R for bloody violence, grisly images and language and has a running time of 2 hours.

It's a little uneven in parts, so I don't think I would buy it on DVD but it would be alright to stream.

First Saudi Horror Movie

Warning: Spoilers
What a wonderful masterpiece.

Story written by Turki Alshaikh, partnered with the team who were behind the magic of the movie SAW.

The acting was perfect, loved how they took the character into another level.

The story is surprising, you won't expect that from a Saudi movie, well, there is many things that you won't expect from Saudi Arabia nowadays with how they've transformed in the last few years.

I can't wait for another movie from the same team, I think this is the first movie written by Turki Al Alshaikh, he did a great job.

One of my favorite movies this year.

I highly recommend you to watch it and give it a chance, explore something new out from Hollywood.

Interesting story
alhamdan-9862230 September 2023
I'm not a big fan of horror, but the idea of the horror Cello was perfect, and the execution was amazing. Watching Jeremy Irons and Tobin Bell in a horror movie is a privilege experience. The scenes of Al Ula were lovely too. The camera angels were perfect. It's my favorite international horror movie this year.

Nasser felt natural playing cello, the music of Bishara is world class. I rarely see a Middle Eastern work that is so captivating.

Darren Bousman made a great horror picture yet again. I don't think I will see the Cello instrument the same way I used to ever again. The sound of Cello puts you in a dark ambience and interesting events.

Very bad movie
AlphaChino113 November 2023
The movie I watched was extremely disappointing, and I feel compelled to express my strong dissatisfaction with it. It was marketed as a horror film, but it completely failed to deliver any semblance of true horror. From start to finish, the film lacked the essential elements that make a horror movie effective.

The plot was incredibly weak and predictable, offering no real surprises or twists. The characters were poorly developed and lacked depth, making it difficult to empathize with or care about their fates. The pacing was sluggish, with long stretches of boredom that did nothing to build tension or create a sense of unease.

Furthermore, the film relied heavily on tired and clichéd horror tropes, offering nothing new or innovative to the genre. The scares were cheap and ineffective, relying on jump scares and gore rather than genuine psychological terror. It felt like a cheap attempt to cash in on the popularity of horror films without putting in any effort to deliver a truly memorable and chilling experience.

Overall, this movie was a complete letdown. It failed to deliver on its promises, offering a lackluster and uninspired horror experience. I would strongly advise against wasting your time and money on this film.

The story was written by Ai I guess It was very weak and boring 1 out 10 is too much for the film.

New category horrible movies Don't waste your time.
sfuhrer-7591016 December 2023
Simply don't waste your time/money. One of the silliest horror movies ever, I think a new movies category has to be created called "horrible movies".

Honestly, the story of the movie can be summarised by the first 10 minutes of the 120 minutes. Characters, dialogues, sound affects 2 out of 10. Everything was expected and there is no main idea about the story of the movie.

I have watch many horror movies but this one I can't consider it one of them. In fact I regret the time I spent watching it there's one positive thing about this movie which is creating a new movie category "horrible movies"

cliché
drrakanzabin4 October 2023
The main character's accent is far from being saudi; its repelling when a guy is not perfecting the saudi accent "since this is a saudi movie"

The facial expressions of the main character makes me wanna punch someone in the face.

Its so cliche to the point that u cant guess the whole movie from the first 5 mins

The background music and sound effects on the movie is so irritating (( humming of ghosts and supposedly scary side effects )) its makes me wanna pop my ears like the old guy on the movie.

I suggest that u spend this 120mins doing something else more fun or sleeping.

It feels like a low budget movie on steroids.

The main character is Saudi, the actor is Syrian. Until when?
gomanhalarobh17 September 2023
In addition to the disturbing gaps in the story of the film, which were also present in the story of the novel

It's not over here

Acting was bad

The output is bad

The choice of actors was the worst

Performance was not at the expected level

I had high hopes especially that his writer is an important figure.

The idea is good if it is worked on better by checking all aspects and making sure of the strength of the plot.

It contained a lot of gaps that spoiled its strength and interdependence.

Nasser's irrational play

He needed extensive reviews by writers who had previously published novels

Checking each part of it each letter and re-coordating it with events and ideas

He lacks it and hard.
