Body camera filmed episode made me want to puke
grlym-468498 December 2021
So let me first say, I love this show.

However this episode had me second guessing if I should just turn it off.

The plots were good. But the camera work was horrifically bad. Someone got the idea to be clever. However, it was piorly executed, if it could even be done right. Filming half of the show via body cameras is miserable to watch and the shaky camera to make it look realistic just made me dizzy and wanted to puke and shot off the tv

I thought Hollywood had figured out unanimously by now that this camera technique sucks

Nathan Fillion, please don't let them do this again. Thanks Captain.

External cam footage
Mika766 December 2021
As opposed to the other reviewers I quite enjoyed how they used the cameras from body cams, street poles, room cams, etc... to show the action. It was a more procedural kind of episode where they discuss and show how they get the job done.

Probably a polarising episode but not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be.

This isn't a Good Filming Style...
SourCandyOrNoCandy18 May 2022
This is the second episode that was almost fully filmed with bodycams and security cameras. I'm not a huge fan of that style.

Best parts of the episode?

  • Aaron is back!! "I was just wondering like, what you thought of me as a person." That line was delivered perfectly. I really, really like this actor.

  • I love how everyone uses Nolan as their contractor. That conversation was great. I especially liked Aaron's contribution.

  • Smitty's bathroom water. "Water is water."

  • Bradford's relationship mini bomb. "... which is why you're still single." "First of all, I'm not." Chen's reaction was enlightening.

Worst parts of the episode?

  • This filming style. I hope it's the final one they do in this style.

  • The case wasn't the most interesting. I got a little confused at the end but maybe I just zoned out or something.

I'm pressed
alfiehooker11 March 2022
It's obvious that this episode was done during some restrictions due to the covid pandemic, to cut down the amount of people on the sets. It's got a good use of camera technology although I do agree with some that there are too many camera angle changes, especially in the cars.

An extremely good attempt to keep production going and our appetite for new programs and episodes in a very difficult era of our lives. So don't judge it in the usual way, take into account the pandemic.

This is one of my favorites to watch, but!!!
elsonguero22 January 2022
If they keep using body Can footage for the majority of these episodes, it's going to get worse.

It's okay if there are a few shots that are body can footage but having the majority of the shots filmed that way? It ruins the quality of the show, I really hope that the producers behind this show is learning from their mistakes and I really really hope that this is the last episode that they used that in.

Do people not know this is a budget saving episode?
theryann61916 December 2021
Just because the camera footage is shaky doesn't take away from the good story from the episode. Budget saving is a common practice within tv shows such as using only one set for an episode or in this case lower quality cameras.

Good episode but ruined by to much body cam footage
nickebell8 December 2021
Love this show. Story was good in this they just should have used less body cam shaky cam footage. Usually used sparingly to increase an intense movement or comedic movement.

Body and City Cams Lead To Realism
lorinfink18 December 2021
Great show and interesting episode. Those that complained about the shaky camera work should not watch police reality shows or YouTube videos.

I found the method of telling the story of this episode to be quite a departure from other police procedure shows. I had no problem with the camera work and I didn't mind seeing things from the actors views.

I've been all in from the first episode with the show. I hope it continues for many years.

Bodycam Footage is Unwatchable
adamsinclair0076 December 2021
I love the series. I hate how they filmed this episode. I get it is some kind of test to see how these episodes go but if they do another like this it will be the last I watch of this series - which will be a shame.

A Disturbing and Accurate Portrayal of a Real-World Cult
jonk-6174923 April 2024
The presentation of this episode is not a very good one -- it tries to play out like a real-life event. However, the way it depicts the Sovereign Citizen domestic terrorist group is almost horrifyingly accurate. They're depicted as paranoid, hyper-aggressive, conspiratorial, gaslighting and self-righteous, and this is all completely true. They have a warped view on how reality works, and they've actually shot people who disagree. It was also a nice touch to accurately use their talking points, like the obsession with the notion that Governments don't exist, and that they're just Corporations (yet still demand the protections offered by the very Governments that they swear to destroy), and I like how the Sovereign Citizen went to screaming at the top of his lungs at the Police (for just investigating) in less than 2 sentences! These people are dangerous, diluted and have already performed deadly acts of violence, so it's good for a show to accurately, and unflinchingly, depict them as the monstrous and completely unreasonable thugs that they are.

Body-cam shot episode
gunjas056 December 2021
Unwatchable. Story line maybe alright, but the constant shaking and moving makes the episode unwatchable. My eyes literally hurt after watching 10 minutes of this monstrosity.

Decent show ruined by horrid camera work.
ikata-494177 December 2021
I didn't finish this episode because of the way it was filmed. If that continues I'll stop watching this show. It would be a shame for a decent show to become unwatchable because of stupid filming decisions.

Body cam footage difficult to watch
vantamn26 December 2021
This was one of the poorly written episodes. The acting was not up to par either. Some of the actors sound as if they are reading from cue cards. Watching the body cam footage is nauseating as it moves back and forth so much. Many cliche and predictable moments. Unrealistic outcomes.

Entirely too much bodycam footage
kerryaflannery6 December 2021
Came here to look up who directed this episode, because it was a departure from the general quality of the show. The bodycam footage was not artfully used as it has been in the past, instead it seemed it was the bulk of the episode for no reason at all? There is no reason a viewer would want to see from the POV of a bodycam when the wearer is sprinting (I felt momentarily nauseated). There is no reason a viewer needs to look through the lens of the bodycam when cops are just chatting at a counter in the station. And then I suppose the show figured they were all in and were like hm, well the bad guy has a camera too! Let's have the audience see from that POV, too, because it is also low quality viewing and adds nothing to the story! It doesn't even make sense. It just seemed like a very phoned in episode, and like they thought the novelty of constantly changing POVs would somehow trick the viewer into thinking they were watching something interesting. Disappointing episode, both for the directorial choices and the lack of a decent plot (seemed like a lot of setup; hopefully next episode will be better).

Can't watch!
Australian19 December 2021
What's with the running and bodycam footage???

Very annoying. Are the producers really just using phone cameras and running or actually using body cams?

Plus what's with the shopcam, with text watermark on all of it? Since when do you get 5 different angles from a vehicle mounted camera?

Also, Nolan driving at 40 mph in some suburban streets and constantly looking at his passenger and barely eyes on the road!!!!!!

Sack the camera man, the producer and the director!

Headache inducing...
mattjetheridge6 December 2021
The constant, nonsensical, shaky cam cuts make this an absolute horror on the eyes.

It doesn't even make any internal logic...

Who's watching this cam footage? And why do the in car "ShopCam" cameras manage to have multiple camera angles despite a single identification code on the footage? It's like the Director/Editor couldn't be bothered to follow through on their concept.

Please no more of this...

We like the show but couldn't get beyond the ten minute mark due to the body cam shots and the quick cut camera and dialogue work. Hope this was a one off.

Bodycam usage ruined what could of been a great episode
cmharmon-617787 December 2021
The show was unwatchable with the bodycam shots. Such a waste! I love the series. I hope They never use bodycam shots again. I understand it was most likely Covid related so hopefully they let go of this concept of using bodycam.

Ruined By Bodycam
delsusan6 December 2021
Love the show but hated this episode because it was all bodycam views. If I wanted reality tv I would watch the real cops on the live cop shows. I watch tv for entertainment and escapism. Please don't destroy my favorite showwith that reality type filming anymore.

Body cameras suck
cmmsobral9 December 2021
If this show is going to be like this episode, with body cameras, I will stop watching. I love this show, but this was impossible to see, This is the worst episode from the show I've ever seen. When the show writers try to make different things, in general something bad is released.

Absolutely Love This Show, Hate the Camera Choices on This Episode
lizzyawcastillo7 December 2021
It was so hard focusing on this episode with only using body cameras and security cameras. I absolutely love this show and Nathan Fillion, but I struggled to get through this episode. Body cameras are better used selectively, and they have used it sparingly before. Could not watch the chase scenes with how shaky the cameras were. There were so many strong story points that get trampled by bad camera choices.

Whose Genius Idea was the Body Cam POV??
johnnynic-18 December 2021
Entire episode was via body cam, dash cam or security cam...clunky, distracting & literally nauseating. Director probably thought he was doing something innovative but he made the episode unwatchable. PLEASE don't do this again!

Body cams are only annoying to me?
nisios19628 December 2021
An episode that could be so good, turned out frustrating with the constant interchanging of every available body or street camera. They have done it again in the past with a result equally bad. I see that some people like this mess so I guess don't get dizzy.
