- As Jesse is leaving the hospital, after Hank's attack on him, he sees Hank being admitted in critical condition with four gunshot wounds.
Back at his new underground lab, Walt has to tell Gale that he is no longer required. Gale is confused as he thought he was bonding well with Walter. Walter says that they have different rhythms of working and they just don't match. Jesse arrives and takes over from Gale. Gales says that it doesn't make any sense to replace him with Jesse, who is a junkie. Walter is warned that the lab decisions are his, but Gus wants 200 pounds a week.
Jesse informs Walter that Hank has been shot and taken to the hospital. Walter rushes to the hospital, even though the next batch is due in the next couple of days.
Hank's wife Marie lashes out at Hank's boss and partner when she hears they had taken his gun away, leaving him defenseless. She is also angry with Walt, whom she blames for getting Hank on Jesse Pinkman's case in the first place. Gomez tells Walter that Hank was ambushed by 2 Mexican nationals whose tattoos indicate that they are affiliated to the drug Cartels. The attack on Hank could be a message to DEA in general. Hank killed one of them, and the other one is in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
During a phone conversation with Gus, drug lord Juan Bolsa (Javier Grajeda) is shot in his home. Juan had implied that Gus had ordered the hit on Hank via the Mexican cousins. Bolsa had said that he never ordered the cousins to take the hit on Hank, and nothing could have happened in Gus's territory without him giving the explicit permission for it. Bolsa had promised to get the truth from the surviving cousin.
At the hospital, Walt sees one of the Mexican cousins recovering from his wounds and realizes they were probably after him as well. The surviving cousin tries to attack Walter even while both his legs are cut off.
With Walt spending his free time at the hospital, Jesse is left on his own in the lab, whose equipment he is unfamiliar with, and he becomes worried about meeting their quota. Jesse calls Walter at the hospital, but Walter says that family comes before a production quota. Walter forbids Jesse from cooking himself as he knows nothing about the new equipment in the lab or how to operate it. Word gets to Gus that there is no cooking at the lab and that Walter is spending all of his time at the hospital. Gus calls Walter who says that it was Gus who ruined the current week's batch and he has been playing catch up ever since. Walter says that he won't be able to keep the production schedule for the week, but not for lack of trying.
Gus decides to pay a visit to the hospital. He is a big donor to the police department in the town and puts up a reward for USD 10,000 for any information on Hank's shooting. Walt soon learns that Gus has known for a while that Hank is his brother-in-law. Walter tells Gus that Hank is not a problem for their business and asks Gus to share any knowledge he has of the attack on Hank.
Gus also talks to Walter for falling behind the 200 Pound per week schedule. Walter agrees to produce 400 pounds the following week to keep up. Later, Mike enters the hospital late at night, and poisons and kills the surviving cousin. With Bolsa killed, and the cousins dead, there is nobody to connect Gus to the attack on Hank.
