"Britney/Brittany" was another "Glee" episode that was entertainingly all over the place
tavm22 October 2010
In this episode of "Glee": John Stamos makes his first appearance as Emma's new boyfriend, Carl, a dentist. Finn and Rachel struggle with their relationship. And everyone in the glee club seems Britney Spears-crazy...This was another over-the-top ep of "Glee" that was both hilarious and a little cringe-worthy at the same time but, as usual, the musical numbers were often entertaining enough to make things go down easier. The funniest lines, as always, came from Sue Sylvester and Brittany S. Piece especially when the latter compared herself to Britney Spears in pronunciation of their names. I also was LOL when Rachel mentioned her previous incarnation as Sandy at the end of Grease in comparing herself when dressed as Britney from the "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" video. Only two more episodes to watch before next Tuesday's Rocky Horror tribute premieres...

Warning: Spoilers
Classic Glee. This Britney Spears inspired episode was fun and did a great job of paying respect for some of the best of Britney Spears. The episode also features John Stamos (from ER) who offers the Glee club to educate them on dental hygiene, and ends up treating the majority, as the one's treated experience hallucinations after general anesthesia as they perform covers of Britney Spears' music.

What I loved about this episode is how it was just plain fun but it could've had a lot more character development. One disappointment was how many of the covers performed were done during the hallucinary stages and I would've liked to have seen more Glee club performances. Brittany and Santana's recreation of the hit "Me Against The Music" (which was a song I had long forgotten) was done well and their recreation of the original video looked just like the real thing. Kurt (Chris Colfer) stole scenes in this episode and it could've been nice to see him play a larger part in this episode. I would've loved it if Ryan Murphy explored the relationship between Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.) and Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz) but instead they barely had lines. Britney Spears' cameo appearances were also ones to watch out for. A good episode.

8/10 AJSN.

The One With The Britney Spears Songs...

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's one of my all-time favorite episodes, and not just from Season 2, but from the entire series.

In this episode, Brittany tries to convince Mr. Schuester to let them do Britney Spears that week, but he is reluctant to do something that edgy. When Brittany goes in for a teeth cleaning, she hallucinates herself being Britney and singing all of the most famous Britney Spears songs. And she does it awesomely, I might add.

Songs Sung: I'm A Slave 4 U, sung by Brittany Pierce, Me Against The Music, sung by Brittany Peirce and Santana Lopez, Baby One More Time, sung by Rachel Berry, Stonger, sung by Artie Abrams, Toxic, sung by the New Directions, The Only Exception, sung by Rachel Berry.

Special Guest Stars: Britney Spears and John Stamos.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

Worst episode ever!

Warning: Spoilers
I am thoroughly disappointed by tonight's Britney Spears-centric episode of Glee. I must admit that my expectations were very high, due to all the hype that surrounded it. It just didn't deliver. It was over-the-top, stupid and downright cringe-worthy.

WARNING: SPOILERS

  • After last week's season premiere, my opinion of Rachel had dropped, but after seeing Britney/Brittany it is now rock bottom. The girl is disagreeable, devious and incredibly self-centered, and I don't think it is normal or healthy for a show to have such a main female character. In fact, Finn and Rachel's couple scenes this week made me want to vomit.

  • Let's face it: Heather Morris is one heck of a dancer, but the girl just can't sing. Her solo performances were vocally dreadful.

  • Britney Spears' presence was completely useless and boring. The whole hallucinations-at-the-dentist's-office concept was just pathetic, and shows much laziness from the writers. The numbers were too long and just too much. Rachel's "Baby One More Time" scene was particularly painful.

  • Artie made the football team... I mean, seriously? This is plain ridiculous and awkward. I'm very disappointed with coach Beiste on this one.

  • Will was acting like an imbecile this week. In real life, it would be worrying to allow such an emotionally-unstable man to be a teacher.

A (too) few positive aspects:

  • The "David after Dentist" reference was genius.

  • I LOVED that Kurt stood up to Mr. Schue! It should have happened much sooner, and I hope it will happen again!

  • Sue's line about the Democratic convention was excellent.

I sincerely hope next week's episode will make up for it. But after this week's disaster, I am VERY anxious to see "The Rocky Horror Glee Show" in October. After seeing the Britney episode, I expect a train wreck.

Cringey

The Britney Spears songs are all out of place, unlike previous episodes where it actually made some sense plotwise when the characters sang. Also, why are all of these students having dental procedures under general anesthesia? Even a whitening. It doesn't make sense and it's such lazy writing.
