New York - Activison’s Call of Duty: Black Ops helped boost U.S. video game sales in November as it sold 8.4 million units and accounted for 25% of all game software sales, according to research firm Npd Group.
That made it the best-selling game in its launch month ever and made it the seventh-best selling game of all time already.
Game industry sales, including hardware, software and accessories, , including hardware, software and accessories, rose 8% to nearly $3 billion for the latest month, making it the best November on record, with software sales up 3% to nearly $1.5 billion.
Accessory sales were up 69% over the year-ago period to $413.3 million driven by the Xbox 360 Kinect controller from Microsoft.
All this gave November a positive air for the video game industry, which has struggled with declines most year.
Said Npd analyst Anita Frazier: “November sales represent the best November on record in terms of new physical retail sales.
That made it the best-selling game in its launch month ever and made it the seventh-best selling game of all time already.

New York - Video game giant Activision Blizzard said Thursday that Call of Duty: Black Ops has surpassed $650 million in worldwide retail sales in its first five days - setting a new industry record.
The company said the figures "shattered theatrical box office, book and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell-through in dollars," confirming the game's status as the "largest entertainment launch in history."
The numbers also exceeded Activision's previous five-day worldwide record of $550 million set by last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, according to internal Activision estimates.
In the first 24 hours of availability, the game had brought in $360 million in retail sales in North America and the U.K.
