The official website for Yojiro Takita’s upcoming movie Insight Into the Universe has been updated with a new trailer.
Based on a historical novel by Tow Ubukata, the movie is set in the early Edo period and stars Junichi Okada an astronomer and Go player named Yasui Santetsu (later changed to Shibukawa Shunkai) who was instrumental in the creation of the Jokyo calendar. Yasui’s knowledge of astronomy led to the first major revision of the Japanese calendar in over 800 years, finally fixing inaccuracies which had been slowly increasing during that time.
The new trailer summarizes some of the troubles Okada’s character goes through while receiving constant support from his wife, played by Aoi Miyazaki. At the end of it, she says something to the effect of “Somehow… please don’t die before me.”
“Insight Into the Universe” will be released by Shochiku in Japan on September 15, 2012.

“Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman” returns to Science on Wednesday, June 6, seeking answers to the question: “Is There a Superior Race?” Few would expect that since I studied literature in college and now write mostly about sports for a living, that I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to my TV viewing. I’m fascinated by astronomy and astrophysics shows. My DVR is loaded with stuff like History’s The Universe, National Geographic Channel’s Journey to the Edge of the Universe and Discovery Channel’s Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking (and yes, I’ll be watching Stephen Hawking’s [...]...

This Sunday offers a nice variety of shows that absolutely no one was asking for. We have the premiere of "Hillbilly Handfishin'" which is actually about the technique of catching catfish that I always thought was called "noodling" but I guess that might be a somewhat confusing title. Also, where I hail from "hillbilly" is considered a pejorative term. Maybe Animal Planet is trying to turn that around. Also tonight we have a "Behind the Music" on Adam Lambert, a young man whose entire career has taken place in view of a television camera, that show where people air their relationship's dirty laundry on TV, that show with 'addiction' in the title that isn't really about actual addictions, and several other shows that seem to exist only to piss me and other people capable of thought off. I'm just a basket full of goddamn rainbows tonight. Here's your Sunday night...
