The more versatile an actor is, the more in demand they are. One of the major skills that an actor needs to grab more projects is the ability to change accents at will. This becomes even more essential when you are in the animation industry, where the way you speak can severely impact the quality of the entire production.

DC has been experimenting with electronic media ever since the earliest days of Superman radio shows. As technology developed, that translated into animations and live-action adaptations of comic book storylines. The DC Animated Universe (Dcau) is one of the most respected brands in the industry, with shows like Justice League Animated and films like All-Star Superman. DC’s recent entry Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths has been well-liked as well, and fans are really excited for one character in particular.

There have been a lot of "Transformers" cartoons since 1984. Most of them (and I say this as a fan) are pretty unimpressive. One of the best ones is "Transformers: Animated," which aired from 2007 to 2009 on Cartoon Network. Network executive Sam Register created the series like it was "Teen Titans" with robots. Register even recruited one of that show's character designers, the late Derrick J. Wyatt, resulting in a similar art style.
"Animated" broke away from past series' tenets, transforming them you might say — the show's team even cast Megatron voice actor extraordinaire David Kaye as Optimus Prime instead. The series was explicitly pitched as "more like a superhero show than a 'Transformers' show" (read the original production bible here for many tantalizing insights and scrapped ideas). The Autobots each had unique powers and faced off against human villains; against the Decepticons, they were definite underdogs.

"Young Justice" currently sits in limbo after its fourth season wrapped on Max. There's more story to tell, but Warner Bros. hasn't given creator Greg Weisman the greenlight to tell it. But hey, "Young Justice" has come back from worse! Cartoon Network outright canceled the show after season 2 finished airing in 2013.
"Young Justice" has the same premise as "Teen Titans" (soon to be a movie from DC Studios). The sidekicks of DC Comics form their own team. Then, each season skips ahead in time and the show's true design is unveiled. "Young Justice" isn't just a show about the sidekicks, it's Weisman's epic about the entire DC Universe, following heroes and villains as they age and fall, and new ones rise.

“To me, the Cassian Elwes Screenwriting Fellowship at Sundance means a wonderful opportunity to learn how films get made from Cassian, someone with an exceptional career in doing that,” Gunadi said today of the fellowship. “I am thrilled about it because it’s been a dream of mine to be a writer/producer, and what better way to understand that journey than by being immersed for several days at one of the top festivals in the world.”

If there's one voice that means "heroism" to me, it's Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime in the "Transformers" franchise. Cullen's performance has been compared to John Wayne; especially in his early days voicing the character, there's a no-nonsense drawl to Optimus' voice. However, Cullen told MTV News in 2007 that he wasn't deliberately drawing on Wayne; it just came out that way:
"John Wayne has a deep-end voice and for a truck to have a high voice would be ridiculous. So I had to give him that basic imprint of the low-end voice. John Wayne was never intended to be the sound."
Cullen's real influence was something more personal; his older brother, H.L. "Larry" Cullen. The older Cullen brother was a decorated Marine Corps captain and veteran of the Vietnam War (with a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts to his name).

Since her debut in the 1986 animated "Transformers" movie, Arcee has been one of the most famous Autobots of all. The default girl Transformer, Arcee rocks a feminine pink-and-white color scheme and either a sports car or motorcycle vehicle mode. She's also had a bit of a rough history.
Arcee was considered for the 2007 "Transformers" film (check out concept art of her here), but like a few other characters, she was cut during development. Co-writer Roberto Orci explained the removal to IGN: "The idea of a female Transformer needs its own explanation, and there just wasn't going to be enough time."
The sequel, "Revenge of the Fallen," featured Arcee, but in one of its many faults, it didn't do much with her. Arcee is one of a trio of female motorcycle transformers; she's painted pink while her sisters are blue and purple (media differs on if the trio are separate...

Science fiction fans remember the last four months of 2002 as a blessed but bedeviled time. "Firefly" became a 14-episode phenomenon, dead in the water before the season ended, but eternal in the hearts of its viewers. Their passion managed the impossible, reviving the show for a big-screen send-off in "Serenity" and several canonical comic book miniseries. To this day, crafters knit their own loving reconstructions of Jayne's remarkably orange hat. A Malcolm Reynolds -- or five -- can be found at any Sf convention, or recreated in video games by players aiming to misbehave.
The cast was chosen for their charisma and chemistry with each other, and that shines through in the ways they've found to reconnect over the years. Nathan Fillion is a particular lightning rod, doing voice work with Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk in "Halo 3," and co-starring with Tudyk on the web series "Con Man." But...

For good or ill, "Transformers" broke new ground in creating photorealistic computer-generated characters and, in turn, splicing them into live-action footage. It's hard to imagine "The Avengers" in a world where the Autobots and Decepticons don't battle it out in the so-called Mission City. However, working in uncharted waters always leads to challenges in conceptualization.
"Transformers" screenwriter Roberto Orci spoke to IGN after the movie's release. It was "very hard" for him and co-writer Alex Kurtzman to merge the human and robot stories. I can understand their caution; before writing any scenes with the robots, they probably had to consider if the animators would even be able to pull them off. Accordingly, the first draft didn't have many Transformers at all; producer Steven Spielberg pitched the story as "a boy and his car," so that's what Orci and Kurtzman initially wrote.

After "The New Batman Adventures" ended, the production team was ordered to create a cartoon about Batman in high school. The result of this attempt to cash in on the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was "Batman Beyond." Set in the far future, an elderly Bruce Wayne mentors the new Batman — teenager Terry McGinnis — in cyberpunk Neo Gotham.
The late Kevin Conroy reprised his role as Bruce while Terry was voiced by Will Friedle. At the time, Friedle was best known for his role in the sitcom "Boy Meets World." However, "Batman Beyond" shaped his career trajectory. Instead of remaining a sitcom actor, Friedle became mostly a voice actor in action cartoons.
Among his later roles include Ron Stoppable on "Kim Possible," the Blue Beetle in "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," and Bumblebee in "Transformers: Prime." As a nod to Friedle's past role, "Kim Possible" even included a...

Brian Tyler, composer of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” was named a BMI Icon at Wednesday night’s 38th annual Broadcast Music Inc. Film, TV and Visual Media Awards in Beverly Hills.
Tyler is among the top 10 highest-grossing film composers of all time. His other films have included “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Rambo,” “Charlie’s Angels” and the recent reboot of “Scream.” His TV credits include “Yellowstone,” “1883,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “Transformers: Prime.” He also wrote the Formula One racing theme and, as his alter ego Madsonik, has written and produced several songs with a contemporary edge.
“It’s just mind-blowing to now be included in that pantheon of talent,” Tyler told Variety, referring to the many previous recipients of the performing-rights organization’s highest accolade, including John Williams, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat and Terence Blanchard.

A couple of years ago, "Avengers: Endgame" directors Anthony and Joe Russo were attached to oversee an animated Netflix series based on the mega-popular "Magic: The Gathering" franchise. As of a few days ago, the Russo Brothers are no longer involved with the series, but it is still moving forward, now under the direction of executive producer Jeff Kline ("Transformers: Prime"). Plus, the show has also found an actor to play one of its starring roles: Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns") will lend his voice to the character of Gideon Jura, a loyal, charismatic, and powerful warrior-mage who always protects the innocent.

Netflix’s Magic: the Gathering animated series has found its Gideon Jura in Brandon Routh. The series hails from executive producer Jeff Kline (Transformers: Prime)
Routh announced his casting Tuesday morning over Netflix’s Geeked Twitter account, which also unveiled the series’ premiere year.

Netflix has finally revealed the first voice cast member for its upcoming animated “Magic: The Gathering” TV series, setting “Superman Returns” star Brandon Routh as the voice of Gideon Jura, an “unfalteringly heroic Planeswalker” on the show, which is set to debut in late 2022.

Some big MCU actors have returned to lend their voices to Marvel Studios’ first animated project, What If…?, but before the show started streaming on Disney+ it became clear that not all the major players were up for being in the mix.
Chris Evans, who left Steve Rogers/Captain America behind after Avengers: Endgame, did not reprise his iconic role in the new show, so the creators looked to established voice actor Josh Keaton to take up the mantle in the multiverse-busting season premiere, ‘What If…Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?’, which imagined a timeline where Peggy Carter took the super soldier serum instead of Steve and became Captain Carter.

With The Umbrella Academy returning for a second season this Friday, superhero shows remain a solid investment for Netflix. Whether licensed or original, the US version of Netflix currently has 61 superhero-themed series available to stream, including multiple shows from the Arrowverse, the Netflix McU originals and quite a ridiculous amount of Power Rangers content. What are some of the highlights, then, of Netflix’s superpowered series?
Well, in terms of The CW’s Arrowverse, Netflix has the back catalogue of Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, as well as Black Lightning, which taken together represents 536 episodes. While the quality of the shows may vary at times, the Arrowverse is arguably one of the best adaptations of the DC Universe to the screen and showed the potential of television to embrace the storytelling format of comics. Only Batwoman is currently not ready to stream on the platform,...

The humans of the new Pacific Rim movie are good and all but let's talk these mechs that they are piloting because let's face it, I like the Jaegers better than humans.
Everyone is building up excitement for the upcoming sequel to the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim Uprising. Which the official trailer was shown at Nycc 2017 and you can watch that here. We’re starting to get more detail about the characters Mako, Jake, and Lambert. Jake Pentacost apparently was a Jaeger pilot who left the program abandoning his copilot Major Nate Lambert who has some animosity against Jake for that. Jake has apparently in his time away been a bit of a criminal selling weapons on the black market. He never felt he was living up to his father Stacker Pentacost’s expectations and had jealousy towards his adopted sister Mako who has now become a trainer for the modern day Jaeger pilots.

Marvel has released sneak peek of their new Spider-Man animated series. It features a clip of Spidey in the heat of battle with Scorpion. The new series goes back to the origins of Spider-Man as a hero while Peter Parker discovers his powers and begins fighting crime in New York City.
It looks like something the kids will enjoy, but Marvel hasn't really impressed me with any of their animation projects since The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Since then things have just been going downhill, especially the animation quality.
Maybe some of you will enjoy this first look more than I did. Check it out and tell us what you think! The series is set to debut on Disney Xd this summer.

Machinima and Hasbro announced today that they are developing the final two installments of their Transformers Prime Wars animated series. It all started with Transformers: Combiner Wars, which was pretty awesome and worth checking out if you haven't seen it yet.
The two final chapters of the trilogy that they are developing are called Transformers: Titans Return and Transformers: Power of the Primes. According to the press release, the first sequel, Transformers: Titans Return, "will take the action of the series to new ‘heights,’ and feature return appearances from many fan-favorite Transformers characters as well as introduce new Autobots and Decepticons. Set in the period following the excitement of Transformers: Combiner Wars, the depleted forces of Cybertron and a broken Council of Worlds must now face-off against a new threat that is larger than anything that has come before."
There are no details on the third chapter, but I'm sure they'll come in due time.

Ronja The Robber's Daughter, an anime series co-produced by Studio Ghibli, is heading west courtesy of Amazon Prime...
Studio Ghibli has a long history with Swedish author Astrid Lingren. Way back in the 70s, Ghibli co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata attempted to stage an adaptation of Lingren's Pippi Longstocking books, and even travelled to Sweden to try to convince the author to sell them the rights. Lingren turned the animators down - understandable, given their relative lack of fame at the time - and a clutch of story boards and concept sketches are all that remain of the abandoned project.

The terrifying Tall Man makes his creepy return in the trailer for long-awaited horror sequel Phantasm: Ravager...
One of horror cinema’s most unsung, yet influential franchises makes a return glistening with global devastation in Phantasm: Ravager. Japan's most famous kaiju is to get an animated feature film, as Toho announces the "big-scale" Godzilla...
Godzilla may have passed his 60th birthday, but the city-levelling creature still holds as much fascination as he ever did. Gareth Edwards' Us Godzilla film marked the kaiju's anniversary back in 2014, while this year's Shin Godzilla was a huge hit in Japan in June. The Japanese studio that created Godzilla (or Gojira, as he's known in the far east) isn't stopping with that hit, either.
According to Variety, Toho is in the process of making an animated movie, simply called Godzilla, which it describes as a "big-scale" feature film - a contrast from the fondly-remembered but goofy TV series co-created by Hanna-Barbera in the 1970s. Animation will be handled by Tokyo's Polygon Pictures, the studio behind such things as Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence and Transformers Prime. As such,...

In my mind, the original 1986 Transformers: The Movie is the best Transformers movie ever made. I don’t care what anyone says. I loved that film, even though they killed off half of my favorite characters within the first 30 minutes. When I was a kid I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen at a special screening for some of the cast and crew members. I’ll never forget that experience. The movie just oozes '80s awesomeness.
I’m excited to report that Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studio are teaming up to release a special Blu-ray and DVD to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. I seriously can’t believe that it’s been 30 freakin’ years!

You remember Voltron, right? Just in case you're not quite as ancient as I am, it was a cartoon about a bunch of astronauts flying around in color-coded space-lions, who then combined to form one giant robot named Voltron. And yes, it was just as awesome as it sounds. Now Netflix have teamed up with Dreamworks Animation for a brand new animated series titled Voltron: Legendary Defender, and we have the first full trailer and updated cast/character list below. • Princess Allura – Kimberly Brooks (Ben 10: Omniverse, Justice League: War) • Coran, the chief advisor to the princess – Rhys Darby (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords) • Shiro, Black Lion pilot – Josh Keaton (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Transformers Prime) • Hunk, Yellow Lion pilot – Tyler Labine (Reaper, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) • Lance, Blue Lion pilot – Jeremy Shada (Finn in Adventure Time, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) • Pidge,...

Morning all, lovely weather out today. Birds are singing, coffee in my cup, and just Voltron! So awhile ago I wrote up a story about the new Netflix series Voltron Legendary Defender and there was a fair bit of excitement too cause giant machines combining to for even more giant robots is kind of my thing. I had a high praise for the voice cast, animation style, and mecha design which while different held a standard of tradition that would help keep the purist fans happy. Well this morning we got the first trailer so watch that and my rambling fanboy praise will continue afterwards.
Okay so I no longer need any more info and demand immediate access to this right now. Now let me say that there seems to be an addition to the team and we’ll go into that in a second. But the voice acting seems...

Friday, March 25, 2016 – Live from the packed WonderCon 2016 Voltron panel, executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender), Co-Executive Producer Lauren Montgomery (The Legend of Korra), and writer Tim Hedrick (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender) sat alongside newly unveiled cast members to showcase never-before-seen artwork and footage of DreamWorks Animation’s all-new Netflix Original Series Voltron: Legendary Defender, debuting June 10, 2016.

Tony Todd is a veteran character actor and voice actor who has had an incredible career with roles in a ton of different films and TV series. According to the actor, via an interview with TrekCore, he's on a short list of actors wanted to join Bryan Fuller's upcoming Star Trek series that is coming to CBS All Access.
Todd currently provided the voice of Zoom in The Flash, and he has also been involved with projects such as Young Justice, Transformers Prime, Chuck, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 24, Candyman, Platoon, and more.
This also wouldn't be the first Star Trek project he has been involved with. He's appeared in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and a few Star Trek video game projects. He seems like he would be a solid fit for the series if he ends up getting the job. The actor explains:

This also wouldn't be the first Star Trek project he has been involved with. He's appeared in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and a few Star Trek video game projects. He seems like he would be a solid fit for the series if he ends up getting the job. The actor explains:

Remember back in the day when Lara Croft was one of the most famous characters in video games and cinema? And by no means am I saying that Angelina Jolie didn’t do a great job playing her. But I’m sure everyone can remember when Megan Fox was in her prime. I’m talking Transformers prime (by the way she’s been great on New Girl). So while we wait for an eventual reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise we couldn’t help wonder what may have been. There was a time when everyone was calling Ms. Fox the spiritual successor to Angelina Jolie

Before beginning this review, I would like to note that I will be breaking a reviewer’s rule by writing this in the first person. This needs to be done mainly so I can relate the fact that I have, regrettably, not been following Idw’s Transformer’s comics for quite some time. I say “regrettably” because after reading this superb one-shot by Mairghread Scott and Sara Pitre-Durocher I want to see what I’ve been missing. I also want to convey that I have been a huge Transformers fan since the introduction of the toys and original cartoon series back in the early 1980s and point out just how far this franchise has come. Now, on to the review.

Netflix is expiring a slew of movies and TV shows in February -- but don't panic! As we previously reported, several BBC series including "Doctor Who" and the original British "The Office" that were once set to leave Netflix on Feb. 1 are staying put. However, several other BBC titles will be disappearing Feb 1. According to Variety, bid a sad toodle-doo to "Fawlty Towers," "Blackadder" and "Mi:5." (Don't worry, "Sherlock" isn't due to expire anytime soon.)
As for movies, the clock is ticking on "Zodiac," "Batman Returns," "Apocalypse Now," and "Mad Max," which will also be pulled in the monthly purge.
Here's the complete list of titles that will vanish from your streaming list (pending any sort of meddling time-travelers):
