We just got word of a new horror anthology coming to you courtesy of Blood in the Snow Festival Director (and Planet Fury writer) Kelly Michael Stewart. It's called Tales From Hell and it sounds pretty cool in a retro sorta way.
Tales From Hell is told in the tradition of those awesome anthology flicks produced by Britain's Amicus Productions back in the '70s, a style that's been revived in more recent horror anthologies like V/H/S and The Theatre Bizarre.
Through his new Silver Shadows Production company, Stewart and his team have assembled four original horror tales into a feature film hosted by and starring Robert Nolan (Sick, Familiar) as a different character in all four segments.
Each story is directed by an up-and-coming Canadian horror filmmaker: Ryan M. Andrews (Sick), Navin Ramaswaran (Nara), Gabriel Carrer (In the House of Flies) and Chad Archibald (Neverlost). Also, Michael Jari Davidson...

“It would be like if in The Twilight Zone the stories were actually happening to Rod Serling personally,” says Kelly Michael Stewart, “Rather than just hosting the segments, we have Robert playing a different character in each story. Much like it was done in Tales Of Terror and Karen Black did in Trilogy Of Terror. It’s basically a cool way to showcase some of the great horror talent that is coming out of Canada right now.”
Each segment is directed by four up and coming Canadian horror directors; Ryan M. Andrews (Sick), Navin Ramaswaran (Nara), Gabriel Carrer (In The House Of Flies) and Chad Archibald (Neverlost). “This was the logically next step for horror cinema in Canada putting together this dream team of amazing new talent”, continues Kelly.
Tales From Hell should be going to camera later this year with a 2014 release in theatres.

I am sure at one point or another in our lives, we’ve wanted to step back into the past and re-live a certain time because the present just isn’t that great. That is kind of the theme here for Neverlost, a film about the pains of the present, the thrill of the past and what you’ll go through to get back there.
This is more of a drama/fantasy piece, it isn’t exactly horror by traditional means but there are a few elements. The insomnia aspect is certainly something that falls into the genre, for anyone who has suffered it, you’d know the living nightmare it can be. I have been there many times, it is a horror in itself and it is played out here showing its horrific nature. The Machinist this isn’t, although I am sure writer...

Horror has been in Canada's snow for decades now, starting with the classic Cannibal Girls and Black Christmasin the early '70s, through the classic early Cronenberg years of Shivers, Rabid and The Brood in the late '70s. In the '80s, we got films like Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine and The Gate. In the past decade, we've had flicks like the Ginger Snaps series, Cube and PontyPool. In fact, you could even count the last three Dead movies by George A. Romero as Canadian — after all, he is a Canadian citizen now and made all three films in Toronto.
Being both a film writer and a host of a monthly horror film series called Fright Nights at the Projection Booth (based out of Toronto, Canada), I have noticed an incredible renaissance of grindhouse and horror directors coming out of Canada in the past few years. Southern Ontario,...

The upcoming horror feature Sick: Survival of The Night began shooting earlier this month. The cast looks great and the poster art is pretty sick as well. Check out the details below.
The feature film Sick, directed by RyanM. Andrews (Black Eve) and produced by Bruno Marino (Anything Goes) went to camera in the greater Toronto area Thursday, November 3rd. Besides the lead, newcomer Christina Aceto (Let It Out), the latest talent lineup for Sick includes Richard Sutton (Tensions, Lingerie), Robert Nolan (Red:werewolf Hunter), Jennifer Polansky (Neverlost) and horror scream queen Debbie Rochon (Night Of The Livingdead - 30th Anniversary, Tromeo & Juliet).
The post-Apocalyptic horror feature portrays the struggle of three survivors (Aceto,Sutton, Nolan) forced to seek shelter in an empty home to avoid the Sick, but withtrust and bullets running low, they’ll be lucky if anyone makes it out alive. Rounding out the creative...

It’s been several months since I’ve heard anything about Chad Archibald’s award-winning genre endeavor “NEVERlost”, so it’s good to hear that the film has recently been acquired for distribution here in the States. Anchor Bay recently picked up the rights, and will unleash the film at a undisclosed date in the not-too-distant future. In order to help counteract the disappointment associated with this impossibly vague release date, we’ve been given a quote-laden poster to administer to the masses. You can find that little nugget of cinematic goodness below. Unfamiliar with “NEVERlost”? Fear not. I have a synopsis: After losing Kate, his high school sweetheart, in a horrific house fire Josh Higgins’ life tumbles into a depressing mix of insomnia and poor choices. After taking seemingly harmless sleeping pill, Josh is thrust from his current banal existence to one that he had lost years earlier. As...

Toronto’s Festival of Fear is is the largest of its kind in Canada and among the largest in world, filling the entire North building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre with over 60,000 attendees in 2010.
The annual multigenre fan convention that runs as part of Fan Expo Canada was founded as the Canadian National Horror Expo in 2004 by Rue Morgue Magazine and Hobby Star Marketing Inc.
Originally showcasing novels, fantasy and film/television and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games and web entertainment.
One of the more exciting aspects of the event is the presentations by Anchor Bay. This year Anchor Bay’s featured guests include Michael Biehn of The Divide & Bereavement, Art Hindle & Robert Maillet of Monster Brawl, & Trish Stratus of Bounty Hunters.

Neverlost is the latest thriller to creep out of Guelph, Ontario, from writer and Director Chad Archibald (Desperate Souls). This title is showing theatrically June 16th in Montreal and more details on this showing are available here (Neverlost - Montreal Showing). Neverlost is firmly set in the genre of psychological thriller, with the addition of some horror and gore scenes to unsettle viewers. Archibald's latest film dabbles in two spheres of reality and you will be asking yourself: what is real and what is not? But, does the question even matter, when what the viewer and Josh, the central protagonist, experience both appear real? This reviewer would argue that both are real, to the extent that if the experience appears and feels real, then it is. In the end, Neverlost is an exciting indie feature,...

As you may already know, I kind of a sucker for visually stimulating cinema, and as such, I have a weakness for visually stimulating trailers for visually stimulating motion pictures. What can I say — I have a weakness for movies that stimulate me visually. Chad Archibald’s upcoming mind-bender “Neverlost” certainly has a lot going for it, visually speaking. Let’s just say that he’s good at making a fantastic first impression on someone who enjoys visually stimulating cinema. I think you get my point by now. Josh can’t sleep and following the death of his fiancee Kate his life has got steadily worse, in part due to his incessant insomnia. His current girlfriend is cheating on him and there appears to be little affection between the two. Desperate to get some sleep and try and get his life back in order Josh starts taking sleeping pills. Whenever he sleeps he lives an alternate reality, one in which his fiancee Kate is still alive and he has been in coma, only awakening from the coma when he falls asleep in the other reality.
Which is the real reality? How can Josh stay in the idyllic one permanently? Is Kate telling him the whole truth? Do I care? These were all questions that came to mind whilst watching Neverlost but unfortunately it was the last question that ultimately sums up my experience with the film. The film...

This is the sixth film review in the coverage of Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival. While film festivals try to raise awareness on budding directors, it doesn't mean that you'll like all the films you'll see. This goes without saying that I personally didn't like Chad Archibald's Neverlost. However, I'm sure Archibald does have some potential as a director.
Josh Higgins (Ryan Barrett) is a scriptwriter from Guelph, Ontario, with a writer's block. Since he has been married to Megan (Jennifer Polansky), Josh has been living a banal life. It's been a busy Fantasia for Chad Archibald and his Black Fawn Films. Not only is Archibald at the festival with his directorial effort Neverlost but he is also a producer on Philip Carrer's survival horror effort If A Tree Falls.
Due to have its world premiere on July 24th, here's an excerpt from the festival program guide:
A small group of young people are going on a road trip, planning on some camping into the woods. Once at their destination, the plan is to swim, relax and drink. However, a pack of menacing miscreants, not exactly chatty types, is lurking nearby. These strangers seem to have an unusual definition of the word fun, one that has a lot to do with suffering, and they get a kick out of filming themselves while having their "fun." It's pretty clear that If A Tree Falls won't lead to a happy ending.

Fantasia Neverlost PosterFantasia is hosting an assortment of horror cinema goodies and many of them are Canadian born and bred features e.g. The Shrine, The Necronomicon and director Chad Archibald's Neverlost. Neverlost's first screening on July 20th has already been sold out, but a second showing on the 22nd is still available for fans of psychological terror. The film really sells itself, as a depressed scriptwriter escapes into fantasy in order to distort the reality of a forthcoming divorce. The trailer inside is visually stunning and the clip shows why Neverlost will likely sell out a second showing. Check out the first trailer for Neverlost inside.

One of the goals of Montreal's Fantasia Festival is to support the rising generation of Canadian genre film makers, to seek out new talent that may be missed or overlooked by other events. And one of the big successes on that front in last year's festival was Sweet Karma, a low budget revenge tale produced by Chad Archibald that overcame its budget limits to become a pretty compelling piece of work and a minor hit at the festival that rode the wave of Montreal support down to Austin's Fantastic Fest where it had a similar reception.
Well, Archibald is back at Fantasia this year, this time as the director of Neverlost, a dark psychological thriller that balances its low budget with big ideas. Here's an except of the Fantasia guide entry for it:
