Grow up, Torres - the rest of the team are working well
hindsonevansmike3 February 2024
Obviously that is how his character has been written, but the "spoiled brat" attitude had now been polluting the Torres character for most of this 19th season - "GROW UP"...

Standard Spy vs spy fare covering stolen laptops, people smuggling, hostages, cage fighting - all in the classic "ripped from the headlines" Bellisario approach to plot development.

This was actually a pleasure to watch, because the new/token character got to do some sneaking around whilst Nick Torres - for the second week in a row after "Dead Calm" - got the carp knocked out of him as a cover until he could finally "win".

Fight or Flight

Warning: Spoilers
As an MMA fan I liked that part of this episode. This was a break from the rut the show has been stuck in for awhile, but this is still not quite NCIS quality in season 19.

a damn good episode.

The dialogues really intrigued me. My bow to the authors (... Katherine Beatty).

The new team is growing on me. Like the new teamleader. Okay, Gibbs cannot be replaced, blablabla, but I love the gentle serenity of Garry Cole. And after 11 ! Seasons with the "Gibbs character", a little variety is a good thing.

Attitude

Changing of characters for a long running season is inevitable. But, I can no longer abide Torres sullen, snappy, childish, and rude behavior or conversation. From the beginning he challenged everything and everyone. It was to be expected since he was moving from undercover. But with the new (Gary Cole is different but great) leader, he has been downright disrespectful and unworkable. Ziva tended to be somewhat withdrawn and at times irritable but knew the line in the sand. Torres is just simply and constantly exhausting. To have the other members cater to his moods and behavior is unrealistic. More time is spent on attempting to juggle him than seeing to the storyline. Enough!!

Can we loose Torres?

He spends the entire episode acting like a kid who has just had to put his puppy down. Sullen, rude, obnoxious... And for absolutely no reason!

He needs to go.

As for the fight scenes, the "Pro Wrestling" I watched back in the 1980s looked more believable. This was hot garbage--garbage from restaurant row that has sat out in the summer sun for a week.

The story was slightly interesting, for all that the displayed knowledge of DIA was inept bordering on incompetent.

Can we please FIRE the writer for cause? Make sure that he/she doesn't work on this show again? Just get rid of that person, as a warning to the rest of the writing pool.

Rather average

Warning: Spoilers
The 19th season has had few solid episodes. "Flight or Flight" is not one of them. That being said, the episode isn't bad, just unremarkable.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. "Fight or Flight" is well-directed, the music fits the scenery. The acting's good. Quite like Gary Cole as Alden Parker, Sean Murray is very good too.

. The mystery has occasional sparks. Liked the cage fighting aspect, the fight scenes did not bother me. Also enjoyed that the story dealt with Torres' reaction on Gibbs leaving the team.

But...

. Bringing the character of Sawyer back to "NCIS" did not add anything the narrative. Never have been a fan of him or Casey for that matter. The mystery feels too easy at the end of the day. The episode dragged at times, more twists would have been appreciated. The dialogue is not always spot on too, to me it felt a bit stiff.

Overall, an average episode.

5/10 HK.
