- "The Gates" - "Little Girl Lost" - Sept. 5, 2010
As the episode opens Emily is still missing and Dylan can't find her in any of Christian's haunts.
They ask Nick for help who demands answers when they don't want to involve the FBI. Dylan comes clean about trying to burn Christian after he "violated" Clair. They do a search at the station on Christian's aliases and get a hit on one in a nearby town. When they arrive at the house they find a dead couple with Emily's stuffed bear. Christian calls Nick while he and Dylan are in the house and tells him to ask the Radcliff's about St. Louis.
Sarah who is confused as to why Nick left before she woke up and is getting bupkus from Charlie when trying to engage him about Andie goes to see Clair, who lays the kidnapping news on her without telling the whole story, of course. Sarah is, of course, outraged since Dylan and Clair are such great parents and wants to spring into action.
Clair gets a call from Nick and she and Sarah join Nick and Dylan at the station. Nick shuts Sarah out of the meeting.
Dylan and Clair come clean about St. Louis, which is where they got Emily after a night of feasting by the trio of vamps. Clair killed Emily's parents not knowing she was in a crib upstairs. (The meth-addled parents had left their baby alone to go to the bar where Clair met them). She and Dylan took her in and totally changed their lives and moved to the Gates.
They figure out that Christian is holed up in an empty house in the Gates. They go there and tie him up and Christian does some fast talking that has Nick questioning how to choose between trusting two vampires. Christian tells Dylan that he'll tell him where Emily is if he kills Nick. For a second Dylan obviously contemplates it and fangs out, which understandably freaks out Nick. Dylan and Nick argue about the level of their monsterhood. Nick agrees with Christian and says he wants to know the truth. Christian starts to enumerate his and Dylans international killing spree through the years. Nick wonders what this tale has to do with Emily. Christian says she's better off where she is now. Nick figures out what Christian did.
Nick, Clair, and Dylan go to the house where Clair killed Emily's parents. Emily is there and happy to see Clair. Emily's aunt and uncle are living in the house and are confused about what happened. Dylan claims it was a "closed" adoption. The aunt and uncle want to keep her. Nick says in the eyes of the law Dylan and Clair are the parents and they depart but the aunt and uncle cast a wary eye and say they can't wait to see Emily again and visit the Gates.
Nick meets up with Sarah at the station and she wants to know what's up and how he could've kept all of this on the hush-hush. He says nothing and she says she recognizes that look and angrily stalks out.
Clair and Dylan put Emily to bed. Later Clair says Christian has now hurt them in a way that will never end. Dylan says if they can get through this, they can get through anything. They hug.
In the night's other storyline things are getting complicated.
Charlie and Andie meet at school and he asks why she called him. She tries to claim it was about homework. Lexie interrupts them to flirt with Charlie. Afterwards the two girls sniff at each other with Andie claiming she isn't interested in Brett anymore but she knows Lexie is, so Lexie doesn't need to flirt with Charlie to make Andie jealous. Lexie wonders what Brett and Andie are doing then if she's not interested in him. Andie says they're just hanging out.
Later Brett confesses to Lexie that Andie is a succubus using him for life force injections because he can take it and he's willing to because he loves her.
Charlie admits to Lexie he can't be with her because he's not over Andie and she tells him Andie is dangerous and is the one who made him sick and that she kept important secrets from him while they were dating. Charlie confronts Andie, who is devastated that Brett told Lexie. She goes to Brett and tells him to stay away from her.
Andie finds Charlie at his house and tries to explain about being a succubus. She says she's on medication now and not dangerous so they can be together. Charlie is thoroughly confused and says he can't do it.
Brett goes for a run.
Leigh lets Christian go in the middle of nowhere. She drives off and Clair comes out of the shadows and stakes him.
