Researchers looking for evidence regarding one of Tinsel Town's biggest scandals . . .

. . . will find slim pickings within THE DIVINE GARBO. Perhaps this fact should not be too surprising, given the fact that this documentary emanates from the ilk of folks who have the most to gain by keeping the clay feet of their idols covered up in swaddling clothes. Anyone familiar with the sordid saga of the "Swedish Snore Gas Broad" is well aware that such Garbo starring vehicles as THE MYSTERIOUS LADY (1928) and MATA HARI (1931) were based upon her personal life service as a double agent for the evolving National Socialist Party. One does not need to be a nuclear rocket scientist brain surgeon to realize that Garbo's sudden "retirement" shortly after the insidious Axis of Evil's Infamous Sneak Attack against Our Boys stationed at Pearl Harbor was more forced than otherwise. After all, she'd just spent a couple of decades working as the Poster Girl for the Fifth Columnist House of the Groaning Fat Cat (aka, The Billionaire Boys' Club). During the years leading up to Pearl Harbor, the nefarious Pachyderm Party (for whose propaganda arm Garbo provided a face) did everything in its power to stymie, thwart, hinder, and sabotage valiant Freedom Fighting U.S. President "Franklin Delano Roosevelt." Perhaps THE DIVINE GARBO could have made better use of its time by exploring the question of how SHE escaped the sort of Real Life Firing Squad that snuffed out the Life of her MATA HARI character.
