- There is a scene at a party where one of the teens says that there is a girl upstairs having sex with anyone and asks who is up for it. He accuses a boy of being a virgin and everyone joins in taunting him.
- Graphic sexual references. An elderly man describes in detail, using crude terms, the size and nature of his penis and testicles. We see his pants around his ankles as he's hoping to show an elderly woman his "package."
- Marlene tells Sean that "old people get horny, too" and to quit "c-ckblocking" her.
- There is a scene where Cathy and Lenny are having sex. He is seen naked from behind thrusting between her legs. This is shown twice, for a few seconds each time. Lots of kissing and groping during and before the sex scene.

- There is also a scene where the main character's son goes to a party where alcohol is served to underage teenagers. The son is 14 and the others at the party are 16.
- There is a scene where the main character asks her class of teenagers if anyone knows anything about a bottle of pills that dropped on the floor after class the day before. A man comes in and asks why she has Ecstasy tablets on her desk. In a later scene they are seen taking the tablets. It is pretty obvious that they are high in later scenes.

- Paul and Adam get into a car wreck off screen because Paul is drunk and makes Adam drive because he thinks it's safer. Adam is injured and is lying in the hospital bed, but is ultimately going to be fine.
- Paul witnesses Cathy's affair with Lenny and later confronts her and asks her for a divorce.
