The Lost Episode
Stars: Haylie Duff, Beverley Mitchell, Michael Rooker, Amanda Dunn, J. Larose, Jimmy Palumbo, Michael McKiddy | Written by Joe Nelms, Sue Bailey, John Cody Fasano | Directed by Michael Rooker
I’m not sure how many times I’ve had to type a review about a horror based in an abandoned asylum where a film crew were making a show but mysteriously disappeared but yes, I’m typing it again. It’s typical that this one would appear with the very apt name of… The Lost Episode (aka Pennhurst if you want to use its original title). Directed and starring Michael Rooker this of course gets the attention of horror fans, but can this film get survive the curse of the asylum horrors not named Session 9?
When a mother turns up at an abandoned asylum looking for her missing son a security guard agrees to search for him,...

★☆☆☆☆ Horror is a genre which regularly sees very low budget entries from first time directors, especially since the advancement of digital filmmaking. This has seen the market becoming saturated with poor and unoriginal fare, but, every so often something breaks through the gloom, jumping out and thrilling its audience. Sadly, that is most certainly not the case with Michael Rooker's The Lost Episode (2012) which crucially lacks any of the atmosphere it requires to execute its premise.

Shock has discovered a trailer for Pennhurst , a spin on the haunted abandoned asylum formula starring Michael Rooker, Beverley Mitchell and Haylie Duff. Rooker is also in the director's chair, so not only does he get to boss the cast around, he gets to take them out one by one on screen as a maniac surgeon. The trailer is effective, setting the stage, introducing some nastiness and Nsfw antics. And it's heavy on "hey, look at our production design!" We'll keep you posted on distribution news as it comes in. Synopsis: For decades, Pennhurst psychiatric hospital has been haunted by turbulent supernatural forces. As promised, we're back with Part Two of our recent chat with Dread Central favorite Michael Rooker (click here to check out Part One, which is mostly about "The Walking Dead" and his character Merle). This time Rooker provides us with details on his directorial debut, Pennhurst.
Dread Central: Not to change the subject Too abruptly, as we All love talking about Merle and "The Walking Dead", but I’m curious about your latest project, Pennhurst, and how you came to be sitting in the director’s chair. For those not already in the know about Pennhurst, here is one of the synopses:

I don’t know about other interviewers and whether they have a favorite interviewee, but mine, hands down, is Michael Rooker. The guy is the total package: hilarious, serious about his craft, a goofball at times, but always willing to talk about his latest or upcoming projects. And he’s just Such a nice guy!
So, when "The Walking Dead" started, I knew I had to interview him for that as his character quickly became a fan favorite. Then, I got the bonus of discussing Rooker’s directorial debut, also in the horror genre, Pennhurst. The interview that follows took over two hours to conduct and a few extra days of back and forth to clean things up, but it was one of the most hilarious interviews I’ve done in quite a while.
Read on for Part One, focusing on "The Walking Dead", and look for Part Two, all about Pennhurst,...

This is a story which came out earlier this weekend on an independent production called Pennhurst; it is worth repeating. Michael Rooker (Atlantis Down) will direct his first feature while starring with Beverley Mitchell (Saw II) and Haylie Duff ("Fear Island"). The film has been budgeted at 100K, with Primary Pictures anchoring the project. The film is in the early stages, but a concept poster can be seen left along with an official website below (Bloody Disgusting).
