The laboratory glassware used in the episode were made by Pyrex, which wasn't introduced until 1915, while the series takes place at the turn of the century.

Warning: Spoilers
Soldiers start dying and they seem to be all in the same regiment.

Many of them had been training in Africa together. Military heads are trying to take over and take away Murdoch's authority.

The new coroner is in place of Dr Julia Ogden and he is not as smart as Dr Ogden. Murdoch goes to him to finds out the cause of death of these soldiers. Many of them had some kind of insurance agreement together called "tontine" where whoever is the last ones to survive inherits the money.

Many of the soldiers are sick and the coroner and military say it from bites of a bug in Africa. The coroner says those problems should be over in 3 weeks but here it is months later and they are still sick.

The military doctor has a lab and it was broken into. It comes out that the soldiers that died had kidney damage and that the doctor was experimenting with methamphetamine on them.

It also comes out that the soldiers had killed many innocent people in Africa and the commander in charge tells the soldiers after the killing who they killed and they find out they were ordered to kill non-military people and children.

So there are consequences for lying and also medical experimentation on soldiers.

Lots of military secrets.
