McM Comic Con and Memorabilia Birmingham take place this weekend, March 22nd-23rd, at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Unlike the huge event that is McM Comic Con London, this event is on a smaller scale – focusing more on memorabilia and the attending autograph guests. But why should you attend? Well here’s out Top 5 reasons to attend McM Comic Con/Memorabilia Birmingham:
1) The Guests
As with any McM event, the guest list for Birmingham is packed with a veritable smorgasbord of actors and actresses from movies, television and anime. Plus for the more grown-up nerds there’s even an appearance from the odd glamour model and porn star!

A New poster and the first full trailer have been unveiled for Zeroinside Films' new sc-fi found footage project Area 51 Confidential.
The movie sees people from various walks of life held captive outside a secret government installation rumoured to contain extraterrestrial life. A teaser trailer was unveiled in May 2011.
The found footage subgenre - in which a movie is presented as an amateur video recording of actual events - has previously been thrust into the spotlight by such films as Paranormal Activity, Quarantine, Cloverfield and perhaps most famously by The Blair Witch Project.
This latest production is presented under the guise of a "military training video for new hires at the facility known as Area 51."
It follows the plight of a handful of individuals - a broadcast journalist, a documentarian, a teenage girl from Roswell, an army Colonel, and a man who had previously been thought "missing" for...

Texas Frightmare Weekend, which ran May 4-6, 2012, now bills itself as the premier con in the Southwest, and as our event report will attest, that's definitely accurate. This year the guest list was massive, around 20 films were screened, and a Carrie-themed prom was held. The film list alone was bigger than many film festivals.
Folks, we can just drop the pretenses and say what everyone should know by now: Texas is The mecca for horror in the United States.
More goes on in the horror world right here in the Lone Star State every day than anywhere else. We've got countless filmmakers, crew, writers, musicians, models, photographers, and yes, even journalists working in the horror genre than anywhere else. Period.
We also now have a massive convention every year. Texas Frightmare Weekend was always a great con, but with its new digs at the Hyatt Regency Dfw, it's expanded to extreme size.

One of the most promising indie filmmakers we've come across here at Dread Central is Dave Reda, and he just dropped us a line with an update on two new projects he has in the works at Elftwin Films: a short film entitled Love Potion #8 and his second feature, Shadow.
Regarding Love Potion #8, Reda tells us, "[It's] the story of a guy who is of course a total flop with chicks so he goes to see a gypsy who tires to give him love potion #9, but it's a bit too expensive for him. So while she is in the back looking for something cheaper, he decides to steal love potion #8. Horrible things ensue..."
Dave continues, "It's very much my style - horror, comedy, romance - all mixed into one. I really feel it could be my best work to date! With the help of writer Jon Rosenberg, who helped me really flesh it out,...

So which side will you be on? Me? I pick the zombies. As brain dead as they are, they still display and exercise more common sense than about 95% of the empowered idiots we have running this world into the ground.
Look for the flick in stores on May 8th.
The film was shot in Pittsburg, Texas, and stars Madison Burge ("Friday Night Lights"), Melissa Carnell (Boggy Creek, Savage County), Frederic Doss (Cut), and Chip Joslin.
The synopsis for Humans Versus Zombies, which director Brian T. Jaynes co-wrote with Devan Sagliani, follows:
Students on summer break are exposed to a deadly virus, a neuroinvasive organism that is spread rapidly through direct human contact. The infected are enslaved by the invading “swarm” intelligence and driven by an insatiable appetite to consume human flesh. Returning home, the students spread the infection to their fellow classmates and other unsuspecting townspeople. One by one, more...

Deadly Blessing
Stars: Sharon Stone, Ernest Borgnine, Michael Berryman, Maren Jensen, Susan Buckner, Douglas Barr | Written by Wes Craven, Glenn M. Benest, Matthew Barr | Directed by Wes Craven
Undoubtedly one of Wes Craven’s finest overlooked masterpieces, Deadly Blessing is a film that was at the time of its production beset by a number of issues that fortunately did not have too much of an impact on Craven’s finished movie (bar the amended ending), which is an atmospheric chiller set deep in the heart of Hittite country that sees the clash between modern life and the simpler Hittite lifestyle turn deadly…
In an attempt to distance himself from the strict religious Hittite community in which he was raised – one that rejects all the trappings of modern life – Jim Schmidt (Douglas Barr) has married a headstrong city girl, Martha (Maren Jensen), and left the sect. When Jim is involved in...

I had a cool opportunity to sit down with Tony Todd and we talked about Final Destination 5 (which comes out on August 5th) and the return of his character to the long running horror franchise. He also talked about Sushi Girl which has an impressive all-star cast that we'll be seeing real soon. We also talked briefly about a cool horror film I've been following from the beginning called "Cut", I have several friends involved in this project and I had to bring up Adam Green and the Hatchet movies because they rock.
It's good to see Todd back in the Final Destination franchise and I can't wait to see Sushi Girl!
Tony Todd is a genuine person, down to earth and as cool as they come, especially putting up with me for a little while plus he's a proud owner of my Crocaloctopus comic book and even asked...

Remember back when you was a kid growing up and how you would look forward to the next installment of either A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th starring two iconic horror film villains in the form of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees? Me personally, as a kid, I saw horror thrive, I saw it die out and I saw it come back to life with Scream. I remember as a kid getting excited over such horror films as Popcorn, The Gate II: Trespassers, Ghost in the Machine, Night of the Demons 2, Prom Night III: The Last Kiss, Waxwork, ....heck even stuff like Jack O got me excited. I guess it started back when I was a kid. I was always taking note of whatever horror film was coming out and making sure I knew when it was going to hit video (our theater only played two movies,...

Joe Hollow
From Joe Hollow, the director behind the indie slasher event of 2011 – “Cut”, and executive producers Shawn Allen & Debra Lamb comes "Mountain of the Flesh Eaters". Inspired by a short story written by Shawn Allen, Mountain of the Flesh Eaters follows in the terrifying tradition of such horror classics as The Hills Have Eyes & The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as a series of brutal, unrelenting murders plague a small town and the sheriff that gets caught up in the chaos.
Looking to join the ranks alongside those classics, Mountain of the Flesh Eaters will actually be told from the point of view of the flesh eating, blood thirsty cannibals themselves. With Mountain of the Flesh Eaters, film writer Joe Hollow is looking to get beyond the stereotypical characterizations and get to the heart of what makes these cannibals who they are. What makes them tick? What makes them engage in these cannibalistic activities?...

With Cut, Angie Savage not only manged to steal scenes and turn in what could be a breakthrough performance amongst an extensive cast of players including horror favorites Tony Todd, Michael Berryman and Kane Hodder, she managed to show off an effortless acting ability, an ability that makes you forget that she's acting after all. She showed that she has a fluidity to how she moves about on screen. She brings sizzle and pizazz to the screen. She...
