Yes singer Toby Lightman has indeed seen the final version of 'Not the Way It Feels' and based on the response from her she seems impressed with it.

The idea is that the song 'Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)' tells the audience the story and what is going on inside the head and heart of The Caller. Though the short film dialogue is completely scripted, the story and thoughts are more important than the words being said. This was the intention at the conception stage and remains so in the end product.
It is true that an entire song does play alongside video content, very much like a music video. Despite the question of whether 'Not the Way It Feels' is a music video or a short film coming up during the production process, Writer & Director Lee Neville was always insistent that it be seen as a short film. Based on audience feedback so far, they have been just as insistent- 'Not the Way It Feels' is not a music video, 'Not the Way It Feels' is a short film.
The idea is that with The Caller's emotional buildup having reached it's peak, how could we possibly not hear her. It is an experimental artistic choice. There are many ways that emotion can be shown including among them silent shock, however it was writer and director Lee Neville's choice to aim for tears. Actress Phoebe Gast, a performing arts student at the time, was primarily experienced with stage acting in which emotional buildup is natural over the course of time on stage, and has found trying to achieve the same on camera to be a fun and challenging experience. Though real tears weren't achieved, the hope is that the emotional release in the final short film also shows the anguish that The Caller finally needs to let go of.
