Matthew Helderman wrote the film in later 2009 while still a student in college.
The part for Mason Bradley had already been cast before Scott Javore ever read for the part. After his audition Helderman and Costello offered Javore the part.
The original title of the film was "The Hole in the Wall" but was never solidified throughout the production. Used as a working title "The Alumni Chapter" was selected late into the filming stages.
During post production the film was re-edited three full times before a final version was agreed upon.
The entire process from writing to premier took a year and a half. The script was written in December 2009 and the film premiered in February 2011. During that time Helderman auditioned countless actors and actresses, raised the capital for the film from various production companies and grants, all the while hiring the remaining crew to make the film.
