A knockout performance that's a great help
lightheartedbeing6 March 2022
It's another Brian Dietzen knockout performance. I wish his character got more opportunities like this. He's so able to deliver when these tricky deep and emotional moments are called for, it's stunning. I hope he gets recognition for it. If you ever wonder how to have difficult conversations with children about death and dying, take note here. Well written and offered. BTW, we could use more "helpers" in the world.

Salisbury Novichok

Warning: Spoilers
This episode very much reminded me of the Salisbury Novichok attack in my country, by agents of the Russian government. In that case the nerve agent was contained in a perfume dispenser and in this a flask. Very well acted by Jimmy and Kasie.

Jimmy episodes are worth waiting for
kevinmorice2 March 2022
NCIS has become a slog, and is overdue for either a massive revamp or a big finish. The only episodes that are worth wading through the dross for are the Brain Dietzen / Jimmy episodes. The last one that really stood out was when it was Jimmy on the window ledge.

I have long since stopped caring about McGhee (as have the writers apparently) and have never had any attachment to the other newer characters. But Jimmy, I am going to miss.

The Helpers Scene

Brilliantly conceived and photographed. This scene, right near the end, with the Palmer character speaking to his daughter, will make you think and cry--for real.

Touch of Chicago.
cyclingtj1 March 2022
Gary Cole's Parker character once again brings a touch of Chicago to the show.

When he is threatening Channing Elroy remotely, he uses a very Chicago word, that is not well know outside of area.

A Marmite episode - I loved it, others.....
hindsonevansmike6 February 2024
Sometimes you find a piece of television that is truly excellent in your view. Then you realise (and respect) that others have a contrary view.

Whilst this is better than the early Tony DiNozzo and Kate Todd in isolation after the "white powder" contamination episode early on, this was just not quite perfect - hence the "9" rating.

Lots of running around outside the lab, and excellent make-up tracking the deterioration of Jimmy Palmer and Kasey the new Abby (who is working well, I reckon).

I can understand the plot device for Jimmy being ready to move on - with Breena's blessing (nicely-shot scenes) and this sets up the Palmer-Knight arc. Overall, this was good television, just not perfect.

Has its moments
harrykivi27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually kind of excited for "The Helpers", because Brian Dietzen, who plays Palmer in this series, cowrote this episode. After seeing this episode, I can say that "The Helpers" had its moments, but certainly wasn't great.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. "The Helpers" is well-directed and the music fits the scenery. The acting's fine for the most part. When Brian Dietzen is given an opportunity to do more than say sometimes unfunny one-liners, he can really pull it off. Dietzen gives yet another very good performance here. Elle Graper is unfortunately one-note agreed. Wished to have seen a lot more emotions from a girl, who might lose his dad to a deadly toxin. Still am not so into Casey as well. Diona Reasonover hasn't convinced me yet.

. There are touching moments in this story, especially liked the speech Palmer gave to her daughter on the importance of living. The message was beautiful and reminded of "Keep Going", which is one of the best episodes of "NCIS". Raven, the villain of this case, has a potential to be quite threatening to "NCIS". Some jokes work well too and the beginning of the story was very promising.

But...

. The mystery feels padded. Do agree with a previous reviewer, who said that the story is too focused on Palmer and his kid. The villain and the case itself feel in the background sometimes. Do agree too that there is lack of intensity here, because of Palmer's daughter doesn't seem to take his dad dying very seriously and the staging is not the best.

Overall, a mixed bag.

6/10 HK.

Well done!

Warning: Spoilers
We thought this was a very good episode. Being a native Pittsburger, I loved the 2 Pittsburgh references, one when Parker says jagoff and then Mister Rogers, when Jimmy talks to his daughter about looking for the helpers. I don't understand all the negative reviews. We thought it well acted and we love Jimmy's character. We also like the continued development of Nick's character and his introspection. Gary Cole as Parker has become a very likable character and is doing a great job. It's actually been interesting to see the contrast between his character and Gibbs. We're still with NCIS to the end.

The Helpers

Warning: Spoilers
Another episode with way too much Jimmy. They keep trying to make this character matter, but I can't be the only one who could not care less about him. Not bad, just give us less Jimmy.

Worst episode ever
ngovin763 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a faithful NCIS fan since season 1. This was the worst episode out all 19 seasons. It was unrealistic to a point of being ridiculous. It was also a bit twisted having Jimmy's daughter there watching him slowly die.

Train wreck
dramadery3 March 2022
This episode was an absolute train wreck. It was melodramatic filler and Jimmy's daughter just had a fake grin plastered on her face the whole time and they way the all interacted with her was just cheesy and cringe-worthy. I fast-forwarded through about half of it.

Abhorrent
nananow8 March 2022
What a twisted set of circumstances culminating in some serious over acting, hysterical responses from Jimmy and Kassie. Whoever believed that a 10 y/o should be witness to her father's horrific poison death, not to mention allowing her in a toxic area to continue playing video games. Unbelievably creepy. Watching our beloved NCIS dragged through this muck is awful!

Such a poor episode of a usually good shoe
sgtsteiner-760431 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The basic story line of Kasie and Palmer being infected with a bio-toxin is sound but the execution in Kasies lab stretches credibility to limit with Palmers daughter being allowed to stay anywhere near a toxic zone never mind playing video games is sheer nonsense. Not to mention her seeing her Dad faint and being allowed to watch ! Also CDC involved but not a single member deployed into lab area in an form of protective wear. In fact the whole NCIS building remains in operation no evacuation at all. Decent acting totally undermined by a unbelievable contrived plot situation. Beginning to think all US shows are being written by 15 year olds, in fact that is probably an insult to such youths.

Worst Episode Ever
BoomerFan2 March 2022
Everything about this episode was awful, so much so that I was rooting for the poison to get Jimmy and Kasey for the crime of overacting. It was a ridiculous situation, totally outside of the series' longstanding dramatic structure and characters. When did Jimmy suddenly have a ten year old kid?

Let's face it, folks. It's time to put NCIS out of its misery. The current cast has little of the chemistry to made the show a favorite for years - and which can still be seen in reruns. They should have wrapped it up at the end of last season when Mark Harmon was ready to leave.

May be the worst NCIS episode ever.
jdonalds-53 March 2022
You've got to be kidding me. Are you actually trying to push your loyal watchers away with dribble like this?

After the Gibbs character was replaced we have been hanging on and watching every new episode. There is promise for the series to continue but after this episode the end may be near. If you lose your watching audience you'll also lose the advertising income and the show can quickly die.

I would have to blame both the writing and direction for this failure.

I hope the next episode has some reality vs this weak and poorly directed disappointment.

Horrible, horrible episode
rguilliams4 March 2022
The only good thing about this episode was the faint hope that Kasie was leaving the series. Then they went and squashed that hope in the end. The only reason this got 2 stars was the vague cliffhanger ending which makes me want to see how they get the Raven. It had better be because Gibbs comes back, otherwise this show might be dead.

Give me a break
crgr-1525210 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is ridiculous on so many levels.

A fully stocked lab would have respiratory masks.

No father would allow his daughter to watch him suffer and collapse The daughter was suspended, but wouldn't tell her father why. The school would have investigated the fight and found out the answer as to why she punched a student.

No one can act on this show. How can a show that has such a loyal following, do such a terrible job of casting.

I'm done.

Beginning of the end?
Wise_acre_200011 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I can't remember the last time I yelled at my TV so much! Where to begin? Allowing Parker's daughter to sit right outside of the lab playing video games while her dad might be dying from a deadly biotoxin in plain sight? Why wasn't the whole building evacuated? Where was the CDC? Terrible, phony dialogue and directing throughout.

I was enjoying the new cast, especially Gary Cole bringing a refreshing change from the strong, quiet man character played by Mark Harmon, who I also liked.

And The Reaper is still out there somewhere. If the writers, the directors etc. Can't do any better than this garbage episode, then I think he might be coming for this show next.
