Tarantino universe explained
Rodrigo_Amaro15 February 2023
A delightful encounter between two friends (Selton Mello and Seu Jorge) when one of them discusses the universe of Quentin Tarantino's movies, with an hyper-linked connection of names and characters from all of his different projects, going from "Reservoir Dogs" up to the "Kill Bill" franchise and also mentioning films that he wrote but didn't direct like "True Romance" and "Natural Born Killers".

It's a fine and well-humored short, but it can only work as an eye-opening film if you don't know much or anything about Tarantino or never questioned about similar names of characters and their relations. For QT fans this doesn't reveal anything new, it's all been explained by the man himself interviews or it can be easily found on any of his movies trivia on the website or the internet, so the character of Mello saying he has a theory about the connection between movies and characters is dumb, and one could easily assume he took it out of the internet or he's a clueless viewer who somehow manages to form a connection between everything just to impress his friend.

To beginners in following the man's career, this can be lots of fun since it includes clips from the movies and brief discussions about it. The nostalgia factor where we see this resume of his career and his films is interesting and amusing to watch. But with the exception of one movie that I never heard of and of which Quentin has no direct involvement at all, the rest I knew beforehand so it was just a reafirmation of elements and facts that Tarantino makes a whole universe between his films with the exception of "Jackie Brown". I liked it but didn't see much of a real urgency or need to be made although Selton and Seu Jorge are always great actors to see on screen. 8/10.

Brazilian Coffee & Cigarettes about Tarantino

Warning: Spoilers
"Tarantino's Mind" is a 15-minute live action short film from 2006, sot his one had its 10th anniversary last year. For the duo of filmmakers who made this, it was the very first work and nothing followed. Until this year (2017), that is because they reunited for a full feature movie. Anyway, back to this one here. It is basically 2 guys at a bar and one of them tells the other his theories about characters in Quentin Tarantino's movies. The essence of it all is that these films take place in the same universe and the characters played by the same actor are also the same person. One example: Mia Wallace is The Bride. I think this was mildly entertaining at times, but it's really more of a film that scores through strangeness than through authenticity. And we have to keep in kind that this is film on film, so part of it really relies on other people's creative efforts, in this case Quentin Tarantino's. Another thing I did not like is that they included some crucial scenes from Tarantino's films. Scenes that are massive spoilers if you haven't seen Kill Bill for example. Overall, it wasn't a bad watch, but I still give it a thumbs-down as the memorable simply isn't as frequent as the forgettable. I suggest you skip it unless you really love Tarantino and care about what other people think/say about him.
