Nobody messes with Mother's Day!
bosporan9 May 2022
A welcome return to basics following the extraneous cross-over distractions in the previous two episodes. A focus on relationships for Mother's Day, with several charming and humorous moments. The running gag between Chen and Tim with his proposed trip to Hawaii with Ashley is good and I enjoyed the romantic tension it produces, especially Tim's final comeback.

I liked that they finaly got back to the story. It was a fun episode. I hope they dont ruin the rest of the season by making another usles crossover like in last 2 episodes.

Ho Ho Ho

Police work is so entertaining and humorous. The episode was so sweet till the last moment that all my teeth rotted from the syrupy stories. Let's get back to some real police work before the show gets canceled. Although I saw a fire truck, we were not treated to the one and only fire crew in LA, the one with Nolan's girlfriend. How did they miss that?

Maybe there's hope

Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps they hired a detective to locate better writers for this episode. As this was a good rebound from the past 2 stinkers. A bit closer to S1 and S2. I do dislike the ways they keep manufacturing obstacles to hinder Nolan's success. Should be interesting with Wesley changing teams but the subplot with the up-charging DA stretched credibility. Wish there was a bit more grit to these episodes to offset the amount of silliness and add some realism.

Getting too dumb SPOILERS
jeffowl10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am not usually a stickler for procedure, but this episode goes too far for me. For example, two cops protecting civilians from armed criminals (guns drawn) are NOT going to keep their guns holstered and go hand to hand. I do not know if the writers are trying to push a message or if they are just ignorant. After the previous two episodes they needed to do better and bring it back to earth a little. They failed in that. I don't know if they are trying to make this a soap opera or a kids show. This show had potential. Sad.

Who is writing this stuff!

Warning: Spoilers
Wesley story is interesting. Th rest dumb. Diaz being robbed and hey bad guys I'm a cop and I will arrest you. Surprised she didn't get a bullet to the head. Yes always reveal your a cop when being robbed and promising retribution. Witness protection guy. "Don't contact anyone, here's your phone." Bad guys show up to kill and instead of calling for backup and getting their guns out, let's do dumbest thing and fight hand to hand. And what's up with all the bad screaming songs? It takes the seriousness of the situation and turns this into a farce.

Another dumbed down message episode
sk-mckenzie25 May 2022
Please stop with the ridiculous messaging. Another one that has dumbed down plot and not funny threads - and I thought this was Nathan's show. Get some better writers.

Corny
mark-makin2 November 2023
I used to love this show, now it's getting far to corny!!

The "Simone" episode was its lowest point.

This episode is the next lowest!!!!

The girlfriend of Nolan is a fire fighter, she literally crops up at non fire related parts of the show.

Frankly it's getting laughable.

The writers are getting away from how it started which was decent hard hitting cop show with some really good comedy moments. Now it's turning into A N other awful crap'o'rama show from the states.

I'm probably not going to watch season 5 if its going to be so poorly written. I'll give it two episodes and then I'll switch off.

I'm hoping S5 is like S1.

A DA "notorious for upcharging defendants?"
altereggo12310 May 2022
This was once a fun series, combining crime-solving, melodrama and humor, and I never watched it expecting hard news. Increasingly, the writers have become more more ideological and less connected to reality. There is a character in this episode charged with serious crimes for stealing a bag of potato chips out of car, because she was hungry. She is in big trouble because, according to the show, the DA is notorious for upcharging defendants. Right. As any vaguely well-informed person knows, the LA District Attorney, George Gascon, is notorious for NOT charging defendants with serious crimes, even when they have committed actual, serious felonies. Most of these crimes do not involve just stealing a bag of chips. Google it. (If you only follow entertainment news, look up what happened to Dave Chapelle's attacker.) This episode suggests that the writers on this show are seriously out of touch with life in the real world.

The Rookie needs to stay out of politics and policy or, if it dips a toe in, at least make a half-hearted attempt to be better informed. This episode was offensively dumb.

Jumped the Shark?

It felt like this Ep was reaching and it was sooooo boring - who makes a big deal about Mothers Day?!

I've love The Rookie and Always look forward to the next here in Oz but it was just so underwhelming...

We get it your soo edgy shooting up churches
kevintbriner25 July 2022
I know most don't respect others beliefs so most will disagree because ironically the show that males fun of Hollywood is very Hollywood so close minded with delusions of being the most open minded. They at least saved the horses.

My other issue is that they made it so obvious of how Lucy feels for Bradford, instead of being more subtle.

It's just funny how they contradict a lot of other episodes more often than not in the last few episodes on being about procedure or on character's statements in previous episodes.

Sorry to be THAT guy.
