Can't decide between an 8 and a 9 because the flaws are really the fault of the overall set up inherited by this episode--not the ep itself which was actually quite good.
---
The directing and videography were epic. Music well chosen. Dialogue sound.
Heroes were heroic, noble, honorable.
Villains dastardly.
I'm assuming we'll get the balance of justice returned to us in a few episodes, but oh the edge of seat BIG FEELS until then. And isn't that what makes a great story--big feelings and strong engagement with characters?
---
The writers changed me over from hoping for Denise to escape her upbringing to rooting for her wholesale downfall. Gale, Dan, and Colt were already on the negative list.
Imagine Colton thinking he could turn back from his personal decisions now that the heat is on.
Hisses and boo's.
---
Meanwhile on the Walker side we have Liam still in there pitching for rationality and Cordell looking for compromise until--BAM--they must defend their family and home.
(By the way, for Cordell fans this is an absolute episode of Hero Cordi--swoon over Jared Padalecki at will.)
Honestly, the actors playing the Walker Family hit their notes so well, I'm not sure who I'd pick for kudos.
Yes, Padalecki & Allen, always.
Molly Hagan & Mitch Pileggi every time.
This episode, though, maybe Violet Brinson.
---
Stella has not been my favorite due to the character's actions, but her scenes were perfectly done tonight and I'm glad she finally seems to have her father's back (and a healthy indignation at low class boys)
And to be fair, Violet herself always hits scenes head on.
Additionally Kale Cully, whose Auggie will undoubtedly deeply feel guilt for his part in this dust up--guilt or no.
Overall, a solid hour of OMG feels and plot twists. Can't wait to watch it again.
