Holy cow!!
liban-3055122 March 2022
The ending left me speechless for 20 minutes. Don't even know what to write.

I already have withdrawal symptoms. We need more ASAP.

Hope this gets renewed for another season.

You Reap What You Sow

Warning: Spoilers
Where do I begin? Episode 8 wraps up a quality season 4 with the star of the season being Jaq (Jasmine Jobson).

As said by someone on here, I thought the ending was rushed a bit and I'm not sure Jamie's story was over just yet. Jamie throughout the viewing had to make the same decision Sully had to make in season 3, a very hard decision at that. You would think Sully would respect Jamie and leave well enough alone after he took care of what needed to.

However, Top Boy does a good job at being realistic. In this life, there are no 'his story was just starting'. If this is the life you choose, you must suffer any consequences along the way. Jamie had his chance in Season 3 to become the Top Boy, but bottled it.

Also, I believe Sully views Jaq as the retirement plan and not Jamie, which is why he made his move. Jaq has grown as a character and a solider from her early days apart of Dushane's crew and has become something greater. There is a lot more in store for Jaq, including a possible feud with Vee, coming back in the next season to avenge her brother Curtis.

Overall, Dushane is a smart 'businessman' and will continue to grow his empire in London. It seems inevitable that him, Sully and Jaq will continue to thrive together.

If you liked this series I recommend watching Gangs of London, Kin and ZeroZeroZero. All quality television on the same caliber. Enjoy.

What a series
searchanddestroy-129 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A kind of British GOMORRA or 4 BLOCKS that grabs you only after a couple of episodes. Moving, powerful, splendidly made and acted, with Curtis' character who physically - and not only, the more than possessive husband - reminds me Gennaro's one in GOMORRA. I love all the actors and actresses in this also violent, action packed TV show from UK. But it is more a social drama, and character study, than a crime, though the crime element is obvious. After all, it is British, not American. Just a bit disapointed by the ending, but maybe there will be another season.

Phenomenal
sbe-3155325 March 2022
This episode was near perfect, a constant sense of unknown up to the very last minute. The acting this show provides is honestly some of the greatest I've ever seen.

It'll be interesting to see where the show goes from here.

The Past Can Not Be Cured
jamdub-6193426 March 2022
Fantastic writing and acting. Sully's past can not be cured. He has been battling the past for the last two seasons and it finally came to a head. An Incredible ending to a short but great return in 2022. Hopefully they filmed the next season over the long Covid break. We need another 8 episodes this year!

The Ending...
josettebianca24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the entire episode up until the last ten seconds. I don't understand where the story will go from here. Since the beginning of the show, I've been rooting for Jamie and his brothers. To see him killed just like that makes me wonder where the story is headed.

I don't want either of his brothers to get involved in the gang life - I hope that's not Jamie's death is setting up for.

Did they just kill one of my favourite characters? Yes.

Will I continue to watch if this show is renewed? Absolutely.

I just hope everything that was done has a reason. As long as the series continues to showcase quality acting and writing, I will be watching.

RIP Jamie.

Do you reviewers know what your talking about
samball-2810428 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jamie clearly proved himself disloyal to the ones closest to him and that's why sully couldn't trust him. I love Jamie and I'm fuming at Sully but that's just how the real world works. Plus I've seen some of you saying "I've been rooting for Jamie since the start of the show" he's only been in it since season 3 how does that make sense. Shows already proven it can be great without him by the first two seasons, although he was probably my favourite character of the whole show. RIP Jamie brutal but brilliantly written and brave finale.

Micheal Ward deserves an award
thedavebartlett6 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I usually never review an individual episode but holy sh-! Micheal Ward's performance as Jamie in the scene when he shows up to protect Stef from those 2 guys was incredibly powerful. He exploded with both anger and protective love for his younger brother. I forgot I was watching a show for a sec. This episode got me good!

As an American of English descent, sometimes I find the dialogue in this show hilarious but almost neo-Shakespearean. Jamie was like "If I see man 'round here again, it is long for you!" I could never say that in seriousness as a death threat toward another, but he pulled it off so smoothly.

Utterly Devastating But Truly Excellent
TheMelancholySpirit21 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Utterly devastating, however, truly excellent finale to the Fourth Season of British Crime Drama Top Boy. While I think the season three finale might still be my favourite overall, I personally find this to be a tremendous success and superb finale. Altogether, counting seasons one and two (Summerhouse, as they're known in the UK), I believe this to be the second greatest episode yet, only outranked by the season three finale, and joint with that is the episode "De Capa y Espada", which is the sixth episode of the fourth season. "Prove Yourself" is dark, daunting, brutal, remarkable and masterfully acted. Remarkable, I say, due to its directing, execution, acting, and writing. The greatest writing of the entire series, well, at least for the most part. As I said the aforementioned episodes only just outrank it, but they're just impeccable. Do not get me wrong, this is episode is exceptional. If you're a fan, someone who's been following it, you know how heartbreaking the outcome to this episode is, and that's, like, the remaining 10-20 minutes. It's not just poignant, it's heartbreaking. First of all, Kit dying, not just the fact that we lose a pretty good side-character, but to the hands of his brother, his best friend, Jamie. Jamie has to prove himself. Why? How so? What's the reason? It's all because of Dushane, and the situation with Ats. Another thing that was conveyed throughout this was Ats death. This is something which I found very unexpected as the fourth season began, but it was written well enough. But wow, the writers went dark with that one. Daring, bold. And yet, something we had seen more than once during this series. I still think season two's final moments are the absolute darkest, saddest of the show, until a point in season three, during the episode "Bonfire Night", fourth episode of season three, which was utterly harrowing and extremely sad. Top Boy is one of the best shows I've ever seen, but very endearing, emotional, and pushes its limits, boundaries, and doesn't stop. It's relentless, as unhinged as anything I've ever seen, among the top ranks.

What, then, comes to round it all off - something so heartbreaking, us fans just can't accept? Sully shoots and, I'm sure, kills Jamie. Jamie, the third main character introduced in the premier episode of season three, possibly even the show's most popular and beloved character by this scene, is fatally shot by Sully. It was utterly shocking, expected in some ways, but definitely not how it was portrayed. I still watch this episode and expect it, knowing it's right around the corner, yet it still shocks me. What does this mean for Sully? Dushane? Everybody? Us, viewers? What's going to happen? How are they going to follow up with this, if they're rounding it off with a final season? Oh, thank goodness they're doing another, as I not only love this show, but need answers. Well, not so much answers, but I need to see how they're going to write this to a close. How they're going to continue this until its end. I always go back and forth, who's my favourite, Sully? Or Jamie? Dushane is a phenomenal character, but he is my second favourite at this point. I don't know what to think by now, given what Sully just did to Jamie. But this episode was really, truly incredible. Their character development is fine, but the characters themselves are brilliant. The depth is fine, but the writing as a whole is superb. The directing, cinematography, and acting, alongside the show's atmosphere and style, these are all masterful. And in the latest episode to date, "Prove Yourself", Top Boy proves its worth; the show gives us insight and reasons to why it is, at least in my eyes, one of the best shows coming out of the UK. Truthfully though, if you ask me, I think you're looking at one of the best shows, period. It has successfully proven its value and has become a top show worldwide.

It's a Top Boy.

Why am I reading such ridiculous reviews?
TusharViv23 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Why am I seeing all these people saying "poor ending"? Sully's actions are very much understandable. Jamie had tried to kill him twice, one at Jason's memorial, doubt a person like Sully would ever forget that. Yes technically the hit at the memorial was not Jamie's idea but doubt Sully would believe him or even care for that matter.

Sully was also not in the right state of mind after Jamie got out of prison. Sully was basically living in a different world and only Dushane had a say. Dushane kept Jamie around because he thinks he's useful, Sully doesn't. And that comes not only from the fact that the two of them value completely different things in life. For Dushane it's making money that's number one priority. He keeps Jamie around despite Jamie trying to backstab him in Spain. Sully however doesn't care as much for money, what matters more to him is loyalty and when Jamie tried to backstab in Spain, that was the final straw for Sully.

He tried to first let Dushane handle it but saw that Dushane just kept giving him more chances and while Jamie did kill Kit, this doesn't prove loyalty to Sully and Dushane, only to Stef and Aaron. No reason why Jamie wouldn't kill or snitch on Sully or Dushane when things go down. Also with them being suspicious that Jamie orchestrated the whole killing Ats thing, it would seem oddly convenient to them that he puts all the blame on Kit and kills him too before Kit can explain himself. Doesn't prove that Jamie is on their side. And Sully was never on board with the Kit hit anyway, that was Dushane's idea.

Then when Dushane backs Jamie, Sully finally cracks and takes it upon himself. Sully has always been on edge and jumpy when he doesn't trust someone or when he wants something and he doesn't take orders from Dushane either. I wasn't expecting the ending but to say it's unrealistic is dumb to say the least.

Great ending
Solstice10212 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First with the Lauryn business. She's still alive because she's Jaq's sister and I feel at least Sully has a soft spot for Jaq. When Curtis went after Dushane's family her life was hanging by a thread though, with Jaq saying she'd be done with her for good after killing Curtis. It would've left Lauryn alone in the world and she can't cope without her sister so she took it upon herself to kill Curtis. That regained her the sympathy of her sister and maybe even Sully.

With regards to Jamie. Sully and Dushane both have blinders for different things. Sully values family above all and sees Jamie as a clear threat to that, a threat that isn't going to go away if you don't make it. Dushane is after money and reputation and Jamie was useful in pursuit of that so he wrongly kept him on.

Jamie was always gonna be looking for a chance to usurp him, especially after what Dushane did to Jamie's family and Kit. The final kick in the teeth for Sully was finding out Dushane had been lying again with regards to Lauryn, leading to a further rift between the two. After that Sully did do things his way, which is killing a threat rather than managing it. This has been building up since the beginning of the season and finally came to a head with the latest fallout between Dushane and Sully.

The difference between managing a threat and killing it also showed in how they handled Ruben, which was foreshadowing on how the Jamie situation would be dealt with.

Poor ending
gqbmrz22 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Felt like the entire episode was rushed. A lot of ridiculous things happened which imo let down an otherwise brilliant series.

No reason why the episode should've ended the way it did. Sully killing Jamie? After Jamie killed his best friend for Sully and Dushane. Stupid.

Season was a let down still
elliotjeory25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story never went anywhere. The Spain story was terrible, a really poor imitation of Narcos. The bad guys were laughable.

A lot of plot went to pregnant Lauren who is a side character no one really cares about and should of been left in the last season.

Also plots such as the housing redevelopment just felt like plot filler.

Sully is a moody guy living on a boat then his random cousin comes to see him and there's a bit of drama but again it's just plot filler. There was no big plot developments and it was really disappointed.

Finally what is with the excessive use of calm, still? Said too many times, really annoying.

This show needs to shed some pointless characters and focus on the plot.

World Class
hafeezolarewaju26 April 2022
This should win every award possible.

The actors took this up to another level and are nearly perfect.

The ending of this is intense and unexpected. I really believe the story is insane and it is on the level of The Wire and sopranos.

Warning: Spoilers
I found the episode so interesting until the end. Finally. Curtis died by Lauryn .Jamie kill his friend for the loyalty of Dushane but Sully have something different in mind for Jamie's future. Jamie finally get killed by Dushane . There was a lot of events in the episode that make it very pleasant to watch until the end. The season 2 is over and it was very great .i didnt regret to watch it. We see also the men in prison who finally decide to not put Dushane in trouble because of the threats . The final scene was heartbreaking . Jamie diedmin front of his brothers and we wondering what will happened to them .very nice episode.

Great episode until the end
nickdo312-888-85876019 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've never wrote a review on here before but I felt that I had to after watching the season finale. All I can really say is that it is going to be difficult for them to have another successful season without Jamie being involved. He really held the show together and I think it's ridiculous that Sully had to go and do that. Absolutely ridiculous.
