While observing the Presidential election in Romania, a U.S. Congressional staff member is kidnapped by Communist rebels and held captive in the Carpathian Mountains. The victim's boss, Congressman Richard Thompson, learns the abduction may be linked to the theft of an historic object from the U.S. Capitol. As he investigates, Thompson becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in which lines between good and evil are blurred. With the control of Eastern Europe hanging in the balance, the idealistic Thompson discovers a dark side of international politics, and is forced to compromise his values in an effort to save a life, and perhaps much more.
