The credits sequence where Lafayette and King Louis XVI frolic through the fields was completely improvised after the shooting of the film wrapped up. The sequence was not originally intended to be used in the film, however, director Tony Kulenovic thought it was funny enough to work as a post-credits sequence, and the ending was slightly altered.
Parts of Mandat's announcement and Lafayette's rap at the beginning are quotes from the song, Guns and Ships in Lin Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical, Hamilton.
The film includes various references to historically accurate events, such as how Lafayette was put under house arrest to save face, however the overall plot of the film is fictitious and for comedic intent.
