Scott's lack of class
brianbucholz16 July 2019
Can someone tell Scott it's bad manners to shake someone's hand while keeping your gloves on. I guess hes the Frank on the show. Lots of class but all of it is low

Picking Fun!
nephalinesyenite8 September 2011
I love this show and find it more entertaining than American Pickers. Sheldon and Scott are much more charismatic than Mike and Frank, with a great sense of humour. They don't have a Danielle, so there is none of that checking in and lame back and forth about leads....more time for picking!

While they are interested in cars, motorcycles, bikes, and signs like the American Pickers, their interests are more diverse. Women will enjoy that the Canadian pickers will look at art, furniture, folk art, glass, and "knick knacks" that AP would never bother with. Sometimes they visit Antique shows and purchase items from small museums. Of course, it is also a bonus that they will focus on Canadian History, and Canadian collectibles, because information on Canadian collectibles can be harder to find.

2013 Addendum: the addition of Keenan the boxer to the cast was awful and his scenes were an utter waste of time. The recent addition of two new staff for the retail location was an improvement, as they seemed to know their stuff. - Every show has to have permission to film, so while there is such a thing as a "cold call", obviously we never get to see the initial discussion before a person is filmed and acts as if they've never seen Sheldon and Scott or spoken to a producer.

Half good Half HORRIBLE
HUXLEYedwards8 November 2012
This show is in no way reflective of real life picking. This is a glamorized and satirized and then dramatized Television programme that has dropped in quality since day one.

It had a naive charm at first but after the 2nd season the real Bull in the china shop was apparent and it was in the form of ultra rich but ultra greedy Scott Cozens who is a Lawyer. He acts like he's hard done by with every transaction but really why the put on? The red faced pot bellied pig is the scammiest dude on TV. Sheldon Smithers technically isn't much different but he represents the quiet one who is friendly to all. But it's questionable as he is so called friends with Scott.

So now to the drama and fakeness. Why do they bother to do these lame cold calls? They are all prearranged just like on American Pickers. They have a host of people setting up the scene LONG before they arrive at the doorstep. This is where they try to weave in some reality but it's so staged it's sickening. The acting is terrible and now you have this kid Keenan and his 'dad' who are helping erect this warehouse. Did anyone see in season two where they sold off all the goods they collected along the way. Pathetic and you can bear witness that they had NO true ownership whatsoever to the items except when you see Scott bully his way on camera to things like Vinyl records where he offers surprised to be on camera folks the lowest ball number in the universe then he'll flip it for 10x at least. He is pond scum. So they have this kid acting to work and they are promoting his boxing career. It's so contrived and they make him to look like a lug head and set up fake accidents. I don't know why they are spinning this angle in, I guess people aren't calling as much for them to come rape their house. I recommend to all that are selling antiques, sell to the humble collector who doesn't come a TV contract and crew to trample your grass. These guys are greed brothers incorporated. A horrible precedent packaged in a fluffy - dumb down format oh guess what, the Hitler channel I mean History channel. The half good part of this is seeing the kind souls they dupe and the nice Canadian Country side. that's a gem for television.

Canadian Pickings surprisingly good.
AceTheMovieCritic4 May 2012
I am a fan of the American Pickers, and watched it quite a bit when it came out. I myself being a collector of books, thought seeing what other people take to collecting as extremely entertaining, and the hosts were quite entertaining as well. Some of the collections they pick, which some would think was just a junk heap, can contain some really old, and incredibly amazing stuff. On a whole, very interesting.

Then I heard that they were making a version for good ole' Canada, and truthfully I wasn't sure what to think. I, living in BC, have seen numerous houses packed to the brim with old an interesting objects, that I was sure the pickers would love to visit, but the idea of it just seemed like it was going to be a useless rehash, so I didn't pay attention. It wasn't until probably around January of 2012 when I saw an episode of it, and I must say I was impressed. Scott and Sheldon are competent hosts that are classic Albertans, and a joy to watch. And the picks are also surprisingly good; a show I'd definitely recommend if you were a fan of the American series.

surprisingly addictive
andrewvince-c18 September 2012
When I first saw the reruns of this show I thought to myself , "who wants to see a show with two Albertans dressed up as cowboys digging in people's garages and sheds?". However, I made it through one episode and I like it. Scott and Sheldon are very knowledgeable hosts, and they are entertaining because they genuinely enjoy what they do and have fun. It's nice to see the smaller towns in Canada being showcased, but most importantly its cool to see the random stuff they take interest in, as I would have never have realized the history and collectible value behind some of these items. I have learned about Canadian history and antiques while watching this show, and even though the pieces purchased in this show are not as nice as those featured I'm American Pickers, I still enjoy the Canadian version more.

Canadian Pickers
Paranormal_Moviez21 December 2013
I love this show, it is awesome! The guys are very likable and they find a lot of cool treasures. I think it is much better than the boring American Pickers, much more entertaining. I also enjoyed the new episode where they journeyed to the UK, it was a nice little change and they found some real cool stuff. I never was really big on reality TV but with shows like Canadian Pickers I can really get into it. I think the finding of old antique and unique items is what really interests me as I would love to do something like this, search old places for hidden gems. It's almost like a mystery cause you never know what you are going to find, it would be very exciting! I hope they continue with this show for quite a while!

I don't get it. Must be a Western Thing
I have watched pretty much every episode of American Pickers. Mike and Frank have a genuine friendliness that makes you want to have a beer with them and come back. The two clowns of Canadian Pickers are barely watchable. When I saw the initial commercials previewing this show, I was excited, but these two Albertians leave much to be desired. Maybe it's because I don't follow the Calgary Stampede or wear a goofy cowboy hat, but these guys are often rude and insulting to the people they haggle with. And I am so tired of the "...and how much would you be needin for this?" line they use all the time. It's enough to make someone throw up. They also try to make it funny. Nice try boys, but no dice. In the east it comes off as stupid. I'll stick to American Pickers. They are likable. It's just too bad they had to pick a couple of cowboys in Canada. Shoulda picked some boys from Ontario, maybe some québécois or east coasters.

Relaxing to see, fun and entertaining.
anmeijers27 December 2013
Its a relief to see a fun and easygoing show like this next to all the competitive head biting *I am angry and I don't know why* shows that you see where people only talk crap behind each others backs and are too full of them self.

Kudos to the gentlemen who brought back some decency onto TV, I enjoy the show greatly and its also nice to see some breathtaking Canadian countryside along the way. Thank you Canadians for bringing back a bit of faith in humanity. I might actually visit Canada now sometime because of this show, hospitable people, great views and endless nature, relaxing and fun it truly seems.

My humble opinion
joehubb539 July 2013
The show is so boring, and Scott and Sheldon are probably the worst two people you could possibly have found for this show.Scott is overbearing and a fake and I can't quite figure Sheldon out.Weird does not quite define him and his rather creepy way of dealing with Keenan. The whole towel and shower kit gift was a bit over the top.If he has feelings for him,he should keep it off the air.Everything on the show seems staged, even the pickers.Come on History channel,is that the best you can do? Cable is expensive enough,we deserve quality TV.Is one of these two men related to or friends with someone at the network,is that how they got to be on the show. There must be more pickers and more qualified people for this job, please try to find some.Thank you.

Way better than American Pickers
jefflenglet2 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Strange to see people slamming this show as its way better than American Pickers. Scott and Sheldon actually know their stuff. The American pickers don't seem to know what they are buying 80% of the time unless its a bike. Scott and Sheldon seem to know exactly what they are dealing in. Except guitars. Scott has demonstrated he's pretty green when it comes to guitars old and new.

The guys on American pickers act like little boys and annoy me. Scott and Sheldon are characters. People have mentioned they are insulting. I don't see it. In fact they appear to have manners. The fact that Scott is a lawyer doesn't make him rich either. I am sure he does OK but why would anyone slam him for having ambition and education? Also how does that make him fake? If anything it shows he truly loves picking as he doesn't have to do it - he wants to do it. Most lawyers are not rich. Plumbers make more out of school than a fresh lawyer does. Scott and his wife have their own practice. Good for them. We need more mom and pop operations.

I for one enjoy Canadian Pickers much more than American Pickers. Of course it is staged. Pretty hard to film Pickers arriving if no one was already there with a camera. How else are they going to make a show? Two guys holding handycams would be unwatchable.

It does get boring. The Keenan character was a mystery to me as he really took away from the show. Somebody's kid? Overall though its a good show. Maybe I am biased as I grew up in Alberta. The Alberta attitude is the best in the land no question.

Painful to watch.
chadhulhu-249-96309626 January 2019
Scott and Sheldon are greedy old cruds, short changing everyone they meet east to west. This and American Pickers are good examples of the cancerous world of reality shows.Avoid it, now!

In a word - fantastic!
patherwill25 February 2014
I can't remember ever giving a film, TV show or any other programme of any genre the full mark before and I do so with this show simply because to me at least it achieves everything. Now I know there are going to be detractors who read this who say or think 'how can anyone give 10/10 to such a simplistic piece of reality TV?' Well, if in the reviewers eyes THAT particular show is informative,is amusing,is interesting, has beautiful scenery throughout with people bartering their wares all the way and the two main protagonists so knowledgeable in their field what more can you want? And in MY eyes THIS programme DOES have ALL THAT and more.My only complaints or disappointments was when I found that the series had been cancelled and that, so far at least I have been unable to find it on DVD to purchase. If anyone knows different please add some note as to where it can be found and bought.

Good idea, Bad hosts.
cdhignorance4 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First of all the kind of nick knacks and garbage bores the crap out of me, the fact that Sheldon can't tell a Ford from a Chevy or that Scott does not know about older bikes or motorcycles shows that they have no business being on TV or calling themselves "pickers". The show should be called Grandma Grifters. Whenever there is something of value regardless of how boring it might be Scott low brows and talks down to the sellers in such a way that makes me ashamed he uses Canadian in the title of the show. Not to mention his yes man Sheldon who pretends to be on the sellers side with the statement "that sounds like a good deal to me". And Sheldon only seems to know about stuff Grandmothers are interested in. Add to all this are the stupid sound effects, totally un watchable. The American Pickers have far more knowledge in classic machinery and at times make the occasional mistake that shows that they are at times winging it. At least I feel like I've learned something after watching the American guys.

Canadian embarrassment
madilllisa28 January 2020
Re work the show and call it two freeloaders...not even a close call to American pickers so should never be called Canadian pickers. These two go to high end places looking for a free ride, everything is "waaay too much money' fine just change the show to two guys going to thrift stores and garage sales and tell some history. Quit embarrassing Canadians with your cheap can't afford that I want it for nothing pitch and to boot these guys aren't even likable. Off the air with you

A Good Show that Got Stupid
archaeotypetw20 February 2017
I liked Canadian Pickers when it first started. It was a nice change from the faux drama and aggressiveness of the American Pickers. The hosts were easy going and didn't try to pressure sellers into selling them their stuff for next to nothing.

Then it got stupid. Like American Pickers, they eventually added a cast of supporting characters who added nothing to the show. They also added faux drama and the Pickers started to act like jerks - aka the American Pickers.

I started watching the series again recently because they've been showing re-runs. There's still good info to be had for people who are interested in antiques, but I can't say I'm sorry the show was cancelled. In the later episodes, it had become just an annoying as American Pickers.
