Weird, out of character episode
whoneedsascreenname16 May 2022
Hey SVU, Olivia Benson really shouldn't be in a friendship with her abuser, and def not go into a room alone with him after he's been credibly accused of rape. But if that's the road you're going down, OK.

Even less logical is the manner in which this show has abandoned all kinds of unfinished arcs, in favor of this rapist redemption arc. The show also ignores all the stuff Benson does on Law & Order Organized Crime, which again makes for very frustrating viewing.

Between the two series' producers have had 60 episodes to address dangling threads. Ffs just get back on track and tell a coherent story that adds up.

Is any longtime viewer really buying the notion that Elliot and Olivia have not had a single substantive conversation in over a year, and after she helped him rescue his son?

SVU's been a rough road lately for the SA survivors who are watching, but holy heck I just want these writers to treat these long time characters with standard logic.

Catfish Jumps Shark

Warning: Spoilers
I see several really deep and insightful comments on this episode.

I won't engage with then on opinions of Benson (your choice, you're allowed). We keep watching for some reason.

My comment is a totally unrelated elephant in the episode. The idea to catfish one of the Priests using the exact same MO as the rapist used only days earlier shouldn't be expected to work in middle school. Of course it works.

I give allowance to 1 hour drama episodes, corners must be cut there's barely 50 minutes to tell the whole story, but please just don't insult our intelligence quite this much. You're better than that.

Episode 21

Warning: Spoilers
Well, they didn't attack religion as much as they could have here, but this did not feel at all like a necessary or even realistic episode. A priest would definitely break his code to stop rapes and attacks.

Confession
yazguloner14 May 2022
It is a simple and understandable story. There is nothing dark gray about the main message of confession. Everything is clear... everything is so light. The first 5 seasons are like Svu.

It's a good part. Carisi is strong in the center. Especially when convincing the father, the message "what about the children" is very impressive.

If only the 13th season and later of this issue were like a dark gray story. Dark gray stories, topics, in my opinion, are the essence of Svu.

Whenever I see the imdb score at 5.0/6.0 levels, I understand that the story touches either political or sacred values... No comment from Turkey. But the land of the free shouldn't be so touchy. Writing should be free.

Ps. OC organized crime became a dark gray and tight series. But, Svu script was light like the old first seasons of svu. I attribute this to the proliferating series and stories. Hopefully, Svu will regain its former dark gray scripts. Because this is so important. Strong Svu Script is so important.

The script is getting lighter, especially Olivia and Squad are having difficulties in acting. They spend twice the performance.

Abandoning survivors isn't a good look
rd101313 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not a single soul asked for a redemption arc for the man who groomed and abused the champion of survivors. People who look to this show to find peace of mind and a sense of justice when plenty of us haven't even been able to find justice for ourselves. Watching a character make concessions to her own well being to feel like she's being fair to her groomer, giving him more screen time than the regular cast...it's absolutely reprehensible. I hope these awful plot choices exit with the current showrunner.

Sanctimonious and Nauseating
bkkaz13 May 2022
So, here's the deal with Olivia Benson. She slept with an ADA, technically her boss. She slept with more than one partner or member of the squad. She slept with an Internal Affairs cop -- someone who could be responsible for investigating her (and more than once did). She told a convicted rapist she hopes he gets raped in prison. She lied to the ME and used public tax dollars to do a personal DNA search so she could find her father and half-brother. As the squad's leader, she approves of her officers sleeping with each other.

This is just the tip of the iceberg in her unethical choices and behaviors.

Yet through all that, she has never once owned up to her indiscretions. She's never apologized nor faced any real consequences. Yes, she was kidnapped. But the she got loose and instead of running for safety chose to beat the man nearly to death -- judge, jury, and near executioner.

Not once

In tonight's episode, she chastises a man who slept with her nearly half a century before, when he was 21 and she was 16 (the age of consent in some states) and who even asked her to marry him. There's no point in suggesting laws and mores may have been different and so forth because in particular people not alive back then don't want to hear it. That's fine. No one is here to debate the behavior of a predator.

But what they really should hear -- which Benson sanctimoniously condemns the guy for not doing enough to take ownership of his actions (while he struggles to apologize -- is Benson taking ownership of her own misdeeds, too, of which there are many.

Instead, what we get is another pandering episode, designed to get people to cheer for Benson on her high horse striking a blow for this or that cause. Because she refuses to even consider her own indiscretions, though, it comes across as hypocritical. And that's what sinks episodes like this one, where the rest of the plot -- something about a woman who keeps an affair going and then is assaulted -- seems of less importance than Benson's self righteousness. Of course, for people worshipping Benson, the disconnect is unimportant. But for anyone who's watched the show for a few years, it's hard to so easily ignore Benson's many, many lapses while having to endure her constant, clueless double standards.

Sad day for Benson
tonilauren-1001113 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe an SVU episode started by centering an abuser's experience. How unbelievably sad. I wish I could go back and delete this from my memory so I'm left with just the healing we saw at the end of SVU's 500th episode.

Please stop the Christian-hate
dusadomovine16 May 2022
Why is it that priests are so often presented as sexual predators and deviants in this show? Is there some desire to create hate against Christians? If we live in an age of diversity and inclusivity why is the "criminal" never a Jewish rabbi, a Muslim imam, .or a Buddhist monk? This show is growing more absurd with every season. Hollywood is full of sick minds.

NOW OLIVIA BENSON IS A SAINT??
lethalweaponchile9 November 2022
Come on this was another moment when OLIVIA BENSON had to be RIGHT AGAIN.

Her character is extreme annoying and very radical with men and republican people, where she shows all the hate who is inside of her heart everytime.

Name her CAPTAIN was a huge mistake, because she don't have the empathy and sensaty like Ex CAPTAIN CRAGEN who was the best character of the entire series.

FIN TUTUOLA very very desappointed, everytime do it a lazy work an that is going visible in this last seasons.

AMANDA ROLLINS is such a powerfull character, better than BENSON, her evolution is amazing.

Bles and bye.
