Over the last few years, globally, there has been a significant increase in our degree of viewership due to the proliferation of various Ott platforms. As it has embraced niche audiences and content, it has empowered filmmakers and emerging talent to showcase their work to a wider audience. In India too, the wave has been felt with web series such as Sacred Games (2018), Scam 1992 (2020), Paatal Lok (2020), Jubilee(2023), and The Railway Man (2023), among others. The recent Netflix extravaganza, Heeramandi, directed by auteur filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose image among cinephiles and general viewers is held with respect, also roused similar expectations. Unfolding across eight episodes, the ambitious series centers around the lives of tawaifs (nautch girls) in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore, before the partition of India. The series has all the signature styles of the filmmaker of displaying exuberance and is crammed with exquisitely choreographed songs,...

Indian actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is a veteran of more than 250 films, but his most recent endeavor “Shesh Pata” is one of the special ones.

He scored global hits in 2023 with his pivotal roles in Prime Video series “Jubilee” and Netflix series “Scoop.” The same year, he starred in Bengali blockbuster “Dasham Avatar.”
For “Shesh Pata,” Chatterjee reunited with director Atanu Ghosh, with whom he’d done successful films “Mayurakshi” (2017) and “Robibaar” (2019). In “Shesh Pata,” Chatterjee plays Balmiki, an arrogant non-conformist fiction writer whose best days are behind him. A publisher commissions him to write a book about his murdered actress wife, but Balmiki, who is sunk in a morass of tobacco and alcohol, does not deliver. The publisher engages a debt recovery agent to get the writing out of Balmiki.

Prince Harry is showing how “distance[d]” he is from King Charles III and the rest of the British royal family. How? With what he’s wearing, or rather not wearing. Just days before he’s set to return to England for the anniversary of the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex wore a handful of military medals with a special nod to his father notably absent.

Warming: this article contains spoilers for the "X-Men '97" episode "Motendo / Lifedeath, Part 1," so proceed with caution.
Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of "X-Men: The Animated Series," the creators of the nostalgic continuation of the Marvel mutants' story made sure to bring back as many of the original voice actors as they could. Sadly, both Norm Spencer (Cyclops) and David Hemblen (Magneto) passed away in 2020, making them unable to return, but Ray Chase and Matthew Waterson are doing fantastic jobs filling in their respective shoes. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hale replaces Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Chris Potter switched from Gambit to Cable for "X-Men '97," with A.J. LoCascio taking over as the Ragin' Cajun, and Morph is now voiced J.P. Karliak.

The new animated Marvel series X-Men 97′ is the long-awaited follow-up to the popular 1990’s X-Men: The Animated Series which initially aired from 1992 – 1997 and became the first show in the Marvel Animated Universe. While many were skeptical leading up to the premier, the show has so far given viewers plenty of fan service.
One interesting homage was revealed for the series’ fourth episode titled “Motendo; Lifedeath, Pt. 1“. The scene depicts Jubilee and series newcomer Roberto De Costa aka Sunspot. The two are seen teleported into a video game titled “X-Men: The Rise of Jubilee” on a giant monitor in front of a large audience.
The two are loaded into a stage that resembles the Days of Future Past storyline, and Jubilee then takes action to battle some sentinels. The screen then bans back to show a classic arcade beat ’em up sprite style of the action with the crowd cheering.

The character of Bishop first appeared in "The Uncanny X-Men" #282 in November 1991. When he gets blasted by a laser beam or radioactive ray, Bishop can absorb the energy into his body and redirect it back at his attacker. He has been a reliable supporting player in X-Men comics ever since 1991. He has also appeared in "X-Men: The Animated Series," and was played by Omar Sy in 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Bishop is also, notably, a time traveler. In the lore of "X-Men: The Animated Series," he came to the present (1993) from a dystopian 2055 that had been overrun by mutant-killing Sentinels. Bishop (played by Philip Aiken) aimed to assassinate one of the X-Men, believing that their death will undo the grim future. Luckily, the misunderstanding was cleared up, and a different assassination was prevented. Bishop returned to 2055 after assuming he had repaired the timeline... but nothing had changed. There...

In the original "X-Men" animated series, we're introduced to Marvel's mutant characters by way of Jubilee, a teen girl who has just discovered that she has mutant powers, which puts her in danger of being pursued by the dangerous Sentinels under the Mutant Registration Act. Rescued by the X-Men, Jubilee becomes a young new recruit on the team, and she acts as a proxy for the audience to be introduced to the world of Professor Charles Xavier and his School for the Gifted.
However, when "X-Men: The Animated Series" came to an end with the fifth season, Jubilee had become a full-fledged member of the team. Her wardrobe even changed to reflect that she'd grown up a bit, and the episode "Jubilee's Fairytale Theater" affirmed that the rest of the X-Men viewed her as an equally formidable mutant. Thankfully, "X-Men '97" provides a similar entry point for new viewers...

The creators of the upcoming X-Men ’97 series want to clarify that their decision to make Morph a nonbinary individual does not stem from the woke culture of modern society but rather from the figure’s own skills and powers.

In 1992, an animated series called X-Men: The Animated Series debuted in the US. This was Marvel Comics’ second attempt at an animated X-Men series after the pilot series X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men was not revived for a second season. Unlike the latter, X-Men: The Animated Series gained critical acclaim, and had very high ratings for a Saturday morning cartoon series. The show reached a total of 23 million households.
The finale of the series, which was aired in 1997, saw the death of Professor Charles Xavier. This put the future of the X-Men into his students’ hands. At the time, Jean Grey had said fate lay in their hands. As fate would have it, the iconic Saturday morning cartoon series featuring its classic animation style is returning in a new show for 2024, and fans are hit by nostalgia as some relive their childhood memories through the trailer itself.

The year 2023 has offered us some of the most brilliant and elaborate stories in the form of a web series, right from romance to drama to crime to thriller to rom-coms to comedy. You name the emotion, and a web series had it. Since we have been acknowledging and honoring the best from the year 2023, we are back with the Koimoi Audience Poll 2023.
This time, we have chalked out nominees for the best production design. What is that, you may ask. Well, a production design aligns its set with the plot, tone, space, and time of the storyline.

There is no dearth of television shows and web series that have been released this year. Many were brilliant at the subject they chose to tackle, while others were good only on paper. Many might have had good performances, while others relied only on the premise because the rest of the aspects were not very engaging. There were a handful of shows that were interesting and kept the audience hooked. Here is a list compiled by us for your perusal and interest.
The Night Manager (Hindi)
Disney+ Hotstar finally forayed into official remakes of popular shows from the West. There was plenty of apprehension regarding the Hindi adaptation of The Night Manager, mainly due to the popularity of the original British show that features the amazing Olivia Coleman and Tom Hiddleston. Thankfully, Sandeep Modi and Shridhar Raghavan delivered a faithful adaptation by giving it a subcontinental flavor. The best part...

India is on the verge of producing a global breakthrough streaming hit, leading industry players said over the past week across two panel discussions.
The mood in the country has been celebratory, even self-congratulatory, albeit with some justification, after the Oscar wins for S.S. Rajamouli’s “Rrr” and Karthiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s “The Elephant Whisperers.” On the streaming front, all the major players have had several hits. SonyLIV scored an International Emmy nomination for “Rocket Boys,” for lead actor Jim Sarbh. Netflix won the International Emmy for comedy for “Vir Das: Landing” and “The Railway Men” cracked the streamer’s global non-English TV top 3 in addition to topping the South Asian chart. Locally, Netflix dominated the Filmfare streaming awards with 26 wins including prizes for “Trial by Fire,” “Kohrra” and “Scoop.”

Warning: contains spoilers for Doctor Who: The Star Beast.
The first of the new David Tennant and Catherine Tate-fronted episodes is called simply “The Star Beast”, a title it shares with the 1980 Doctor Who Weekly comic strip (published in the US by Marvel Comics as “Stan Lee Presents: Doctor Who”) “Doctor Who and the Star Beast”, featuring the Fourth Doctor as played by Tom Baker.
The TV special stars Miriam Margolyes as the voice of the fluffy alien “Beep the Meep”, who first appeared in that comic. And if we put the poster for the special alongside the cover of that comic (see above) there are… similarities.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Doctor Who TV series has adapted stories from other mediums. The most famous example would be when Paul Cornell was invited to adapt the Seventh Doctor novel he had written for Virgin New Adventures,...

Netflix India has released some really good content this year, and the most prominent show from the streaming giant is Kohrra. Other than this Punjab based Netflix India Original; Class, Friday Night Plan, Choona, Guns & Gulaabs, and Jaane Jaan are some of the latest additions to the Netflix India lineup. Khufiya, directed by the famous Vishal Bharadwaj, is a new inclusion that, by the looks of it, is a spy thriller set in post-liberalization India. Vishal Bharadwaj also dropped a whodunnit web series Charlie Chopra and the Mystery of the Solang Valley, and we think the filmmaker is on a roll to be coming out with back-to-back work that will further diversify his filmography.

Meghan Markle hasn’t been on the best terms with the royal family since she and Prince Harry left their working royal roles back in 2020. The Duchess of Sussex has only returned to the United Kingdom a handful of times since leaving, which included twice in 2022 to honor Queen Elizabeth.
Meghan recently returned to Europe to accompany her husband to the Invictus Games in Germany, and one subtle visit might have actually been a secret olive branch to her brother-in-law, Prince William.

Prince Harry and his father, King Charles, have had plenty of issues since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their roles as working royals back in 2020. Harry and Meghan have since moved to California, and little has been done by Harry or his father to repair the relationship.
Harry has said that he hopes to reconcile with his father, and it’s assumed that Charles feels the same way. But one source revealed that the king reportedly gave Harry an “ultimatum” if Harry ever wants to truly fix things with his dad.
