The last two decades have seen a swath of reality dating shows sweep on — and sometimes off — TV screens, with series like The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Married at First Sight, Love Island, Are You the One?, FBoy Island and 90-Day Fiancé garnering notable and even rabid followings.
But much of that programming, despite ongoing efforts to racially diversify casting, has largely reflected one type of relationship: straight couples. Of course, there’s also been a handful of series — Logo TV’s Finding Prince Charming, Bravo’s Boy Meets Boys, Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas and one entire season of Are You the One? — that have featured either entirely gay or a notable number of LGBTQ contestants.
But mostly queer people are sprinkled in if they’re present at all (think Dating Around, Ex on the Beach, Bachelor in Paradise and The One That Got Away), a piece of a larger...

Season 23 of “The Voice” ended Tuesday, May 23 with host Carson Daly announcing Gina Miles as the winner. The 18-year old gave rookie coach Niall Horan his first victory, surprising many who thought Blake Shelton would sail away with his 10th championship for his final season.
“I was just happy to be standing up there with the other four acts,” Gina reveals about the moments leading up to Carson naming her the winner. “It’s really loud in there when they’re clapping, so when he said my name I was just like, ‘Me? Are you for real?’ You know, you watch the show and you’re like, ‘This is TV.’ And then you’re on the show and you’re like, ‘This is my life!’ So it was really weird.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

If you went into the May 23 finale of “The Voice” thinking that Blake Shelton had his 10th and final victory in the bag, you’d be dead wrong. (See the updated “The Voice” winners list.)
The country superstar, who bid adieu to NBC’s reality TV show on Tuesday night after 23 consecutive seasons, had two artists in the finale but they finished in second place (Grace West) and fifth place (Noivas). The winner, by one of the closest margins ever, turned out to be Gina Miles, who was coached by first-timer Niall Horan. The other two finalists were D.Smooth of Team Kelly Clarkson in third place and Sorelle of Team Chance the Rapper in fourth place.
Blake’s final episode turned out to be a tribute to his many seasons as a coach. Several of his past winners and team members took part in the two-hour proceedings. In addition,...

When The Playoffs of “The Voice” season 23 continue Monday, May 8, the artists of Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Niall Horan will take the stage for their chance to advance to the live shows. In this round, together with The Playoffs Premiere from May 1 featuring Team Blake Shelton and Team Chance the Rapper, the coaches remain in control of the future of their team. Each coach selects two artists from the five performances to advance to the Top 8 live show on May 15.
Blake will move forward with his “huge performer” Noivas and country vocalist Grace West. Chance stuck with the tight harmonics of the trio Sorelle and the artist with a ton of potential Ray Uriel.
For the first time ever, the coaches had a Playoff Pass at their disposal. In the battles, Niall gave the pass to Ryley Tate Wilson, sparing him the heat of the Knockouts and sending him...

"The Matrix," it's been said, is a story with myriad interpretations. It's part messianic myth, part trans allegory, part exploration of choice theory. At the end of the day though, "The Matrix" is also a love story. This probably wasn't very obvious until the saga pivoted from the sleek, apocalyptic action of the initial trilogy and dove headfirst into romance with "The Matrix Resurrections." But the films have actually always been about love: if you didn't realize it before, you may not have been looking hard enough.
The romance between Neo (Keanu Reeves) and his ride-or-die, Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), is one of the major pillars of the "Matrix" saga. Their love is not the showiest aspect of the series — and until recently, one might have seen it as more of an afterthought. But even before "Resurrections" dedicated its story to the earth-altering power of love, Neo and Trinity were the template for sci-fi romance.

The streamer has greenlit Twin Love from ITV Entertainment. It will air on Prime Video and in the U.S. and UK it will simultaneously premiere on free streamer Freevee.
Twin Love is a social dating experiment that explores the love lives of identical twins. Ten sets of twins will be split up and placed into two houses of identical casts, where they’ll begin a unique and compelling search for love. The series will discover if their inherent similarities extend to their romantic desires. When separated from their twin brothers and sisters—some for the first time ever—will they pursue the same identical partners? Or will their choices be dramatically different?

Amazon Studios is merging its Prime Video and Freevee unscripted teams under the oversight of reality TV vet Chris Castallo. Having previously focused on Prime Video fare, Castallo will now oversee unscripted for both outlets and report to Lauren Anderson, who was recently named head of AVOD original content and programming at Amazon Studios.
The move comes following a restructure inside Amazon’s ad-supported video on demand service. Earlier this month, Ryan Pirozzi was named head of Freevee, overseeing the business side of the streaming service, while Anderson was given oversight for programming, which includes development, production, licensing, scheduling, research and strategy for Freevee and Prime Video’s ad-supported Fast linear channels. Anderson and Pirozzi had formerly served as co-heads of content and programming for Amazon Freevee (the ad-supported video on demand service that had been known as IMDb TV).
Castallo previously reported to Marc Resteghini, the US/Global Head of Development at Amazon Studios.

In Variety’s feature, The One That Got Away, Emmy nominees reflect on one of their projects that never saw the light of day, was canceled too soon or that they’d like to revisit some day.
Picture it: Southern California, 1994.
Cinco Paul is fresh out of USC School of Cinematic Arts, churning out his first post-grad comedy script — an homage to screwball comedies including “What’s Up, Doc?” and “Bringing Up Baby,” called “Band of Gold.”
“At the time, there were big splashy spec sales happening all over the place and this was mine,” he says. “It kind of launched my career, but unfortunately, it never got made.”
Nearly 30 years later, Paul, the creator and Emmy-nominated lyricist of Apple TV+’s musical love letter “Schmigadoon!,” has never lost his wistful fondness for the script, which had been bought by Sony and even attached a few directors.

Venice Film Festival chief Alberto Barbera revealed a typically intriguing lineup today, full of potential fireworks and serious cinema. From Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s “personal and ambitious” Bardo to Netflix’s much-discussed Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, there are buzz titles on offer and plenty of talking points. The lineup also offered up some interesting deviations from previous editions. Below, we discuss the selection with Barbera, who cultivated the lineup with his team over a nine-month span.
Deadline: This is a great-looking lineup. Rich and serious. How are you feeling about it?
Alberto Barbera: I’m very happy. It was a challenging and long process. We started to watch films last November. Of course, there were films that aren’t completed and we couldn’t get, but most of the films I wanted to see I could and many of those are here in the selection.
