Not even the exaggerated amount of teenage hormons can serve as a justification how bad this show was

Here we have the Teen Choice (Awards) 2011, a television even and the year this is from is in the title, so this is almost a decade old now already and no matter how many bad things you can say about teens and their taste in film, television and music today, things certainly weren't better a decade ago. This show isthe evidence. But first things first: The directors were Emmy nominees Michael Dempsey and Jeff Roe and this one ran for slightly under 1.5 hours. The hos ts Kaley Cuoco and she was certainly among the better aspects of the even, but also mostly because everything else really sucked. I was actually impressed early on that they got will.i.am as DJ here to be honest and he is just one of several pretty famous names. So the celebrities were definitely there, but that did not make things any better, even if will.i.am's closing song was pretty fine as well. But the mess already started with Ashton Kutcher winning the first award. I don't think he is talented at all. His brief lesson on money and funding was still pretty good, maybe the wisest anybody said that night, but when he started singing that Katy Perry song, things got south really quickly. Of course Perry's "antagonist" Taylor Swift was singing along as over the top as always with her. I honestly have no idea why I once kinda liked her. There werfe many bad winners here really and you could be pretty safe that everybody you saw in the audience (if it was a familiar face) would also take home a trophy at some point. This applies to Ellen DeGeneres, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and a few others. Even Ed Helms won an award and so did Cameron Diaz. They may not be great winenrs, but admittedly they are not by far among the worst of the night. You can check the exact list of winners elsewhere, even here on imdb in fact as the "cast" includes the mentions. Okay what else can I say here. Of course, there is also a great deal of advertising included: Zooey Deschanel promoted her new show "New Girl", pretty surprised it is that old already, and her sister was also nominated and this event reminded me again how unbearably cringeworthy Zooey is, not quirky in a positive way at all. Shaun White is always at these shows too haha and nobody outside the US has a clue who he is. If it was Shaq at least. Asian groups were also successful back then I see already, even if Cuoco ruined their number. A good moment that night was by Zachari Levi and the table tennis sequence, but especially how he poked fun at the Bieber.

The music numbers were a mess too for the most part. Selena Gomez was the worst, the others more ont he forgettable side, but not as horrible as she was. I felt kinda bad for the guitar guy in her band even and honestly this song winning anything is an utter joke. So generic, void of anything remotely close to creativity and Gomez is just not a good singer. Same is true about Lovato too and she received an award as well that had to do with her mental struggles etc. These also go back way further than I remembered. I personally find it embarrassing how she puts these out for everybody to see. Sympathy fishing in my opinion and making sure that nobody can say a bad word about her. Well, I can. She does not deserve the degree of fame she received judging from her talent and the whole idea how her struggles and strength to defeat them serve as an inspiration for many is also really exaggerated and something I cannot hear anymore, although I am sure some loyal Lovato fan will tell me I can't understand if I have not been through the same. Oh by the way, DeGeneres' song reference at the end of her brief speech was kinda funny. No comment on The Vampire Diaries, the Twilight kids (supporting actors) and most of all Taylor Lautner winning awards, the latter for acting. No this alone honestly would have been enough to say that you cannot take this show / awards ceremony seriously at all. He is so bad. Pattinson is fairly talented no denying. Okay, also the Potter saga was over back then and the tribute at the end was kinda nice. But back to the negative: I wonder if those that were teens back then and voted for this nonsense are ashamed now that they are in their twenties. They should be! It's okay they had a nice time there in the audience, but watching this show on the screen is just a gigantic mess. So much wrong with it. I also have a feeling that many winners knew already that they would win and I never like this for awards shows. Aside from that, this one has a really big flaw that is a true deal-breaker. It is so rushed. There are many many awards that were included really for a second only and not in a way where the winner is announced and gets to make a speech. Actually awards in key categories, but stuff like "Best Vampire" gets a full inclusion. Unreal. And many awards were not even included at all in the show, like in the sense of you can read they won on the internet, but neither the winners nor the categories and certainly not the nominees were a part of the show. Then again, maybe this is a good thing because otherwise this disaster would have gone on for another hour. Thank God it did not, but especially worth mentioning that for example Black Swan won a big award, one of the rare occasions that actually a good film won something here. Most of the other winners are easily on failure territory. I have seen many of these awards and to be honest most of the time, even the Kids Choice Awards bring out better winners. So why do young people lose their taste when puberty kicks in? It cannot be just the hormones. Oh well, what else? Let's see: Oh yeah Glee as pretty big back then too and the two boys were still alive, Monteith even gave a brief acceptance speech. And Criss, who is having a better career now than Colfer (who it seems wasn't there) and everybody else from Glee. The wheelchair boy (well not in real life) is so embarrassing. David Beckham and all his kids in the audience were also a bit awkward. Where was Victoria? Taylor Swiftg winning something like a career achievement award back then already? I don't even. The most stunning girl that noght was not one of the stars, but Jessica Rothe for sure. Pity she was only shown really briefly, but LL Cool J is of course always fun, even if he certainly scores more through charisma than range. I guess Portman and Timberlake weren't around, so their categories were not featured as part of the show. And Brooklyn Decker really? Come on.. And Jersey Shore? And Justin Bieber getting an award for TV villain??? Okay I stop before I get physically sick. This is exactly the kind of show that you don#t want your horny kids to see. Highly not recommended. Oh I forgot one Avril Lavigne ugh, the epitome of pretending to make artistically relevant music about teenage angst while not having one single talented bone in her body. Bye.
