There are three versions of the NYPD patch used in this episode.
The first - seen on a squad car outside the bank 22 minutes in - is the real NYPD patch. The second - seen on an ESU officer's sleeve as Frank arrives a few seconds later - is the version most commonly used in the first 2-3 seasons that doesn't say "City Of New York" and instead goes with just "New York" on the sides of the department logo. The third and final one - seen on another squad car a further few seconds later - replaces the "Police Department" on the top of the real NYPD patch with "City Of New York".
The words 'DCPI' used in the show stand for Deputy Commissioner, Public Information of NYPD.
The police negotiator Jack Condo refers to the situation as a 'regular Dog Day Afternoon'. This refers to the Oscar and Golden Globes nominated 1975 film starring Al Pacino, which is about a bank robbery and the taking of hostages.
