The Slutty Pumpkin Returns (#7.8)

Warning: Spoilers
Great to see them bring the slutty pumpkin back. This was the one good thing about this season so far, the return of two of Ted's past interests. The story on how they didn't connect like at all was pretty good. I just could not understand how she said she was looking for him for the past 10 years. Where? If they always went to the same party they would have met, and where else would it make sense for her to look for Ted?.

Best part was Barney being a Canadian now. Robin teasing him was pretty fun as well as him in the Mounty costume. The American and Canadian Barney beating each other was also a great scene.

Neil Patrick Harris Does It Again
slightlymad225 February 2015
Once again I'm starting my review of this episode with the same sentence. Neil Patrick Harris knocks it out if the park once again as Barney Stinson as "How I Met Your Mother" continues to stay back on track. In fact it's one of the best of the season.

Plot In A Paragraph: Ted finally meets his mystery girl in the Slutty Pumpkin costume from season one. Meanwhile, Barney learns he is part Canadian, which delights Robin no end and she mocks him mercifully for it, and Lily wants to move to the suburbs.

Any episode that features the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson in the main storyline is always excellent. His arrival at the rooftop party in stars-and-stripes boxing shorts and top hat with James Brown's "Living in America," a la Apollo Creed in "Rocky IV." Is TV gold. I could go on and on about the brilliance of this episode, and in particular Neil Patrick Harris but I won't bore you with it.

This is a really fun episode, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan are both excellent, and am I alone in finding it arousing when Lilly said "You can put it wherever you like"?? and Kal Penn does not return. Katy Holmes is great as "The Slutty Pumpkin"

The 3 Plot Lines
redwillowscom2 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The Slutty Pumpkin: Either Katie Holmes was a terrible casting choice or the writers didn't develop her character at all. I just never felt like she was there, that plot line was very boring. (Not to mention, she wasn't a slutty pumpkin. She was a pumpkin and she was female, but she wasn't slutty. Kind of a huge misnomer too.)

The Pregnant Moron: The pregnant brain idea was unbelievable and took you "out of the show". I thought this subplot had potential up until a minute or so after their parents had left.

Canadians: The back and forth was funny. It was the only thing keeping this episode alive. Barney's entrance was funny. It just didn't feel like Robin and Barney where communicating, so much as talking out loud. If they had played them as being rivals or friendly enemies, it could've gotten better.

Throughout the episode, I was wondering "Why are they all at the party that they hated last year?". This episode was just terrible. The best performance was the costume shop owner. That's bad.
