Quickly goes down hill
Calicodreamin15 July 2022
The first episode is good, going into detail on the heist and aftermath as well as bring up popular theories and lines of inquiry. Then the series snowballs into conspiracies, ambushing suspects, and people with no credentials enjoying hearing themselves talk.

After a good first episode, it becomes fanboy nonsense.
Sleepin_Dragon28 July 2022
In November 1971, an audacious man hijacks a plane, and escapes with a fortune using a parachute.

I'll be honest, I was enthralled by episode one, the story itself is fascinating, romantic and bold, almost James Bond like, however, episodes two, three and four, offer nothing, other than conspiracy theories, it's such a huge disappointment.

Very slick visuals, good music, but ultimately the series is vacuous, it's all just window dressing.

I loathed the way that Rackstraw was hounded and pursued. He had a checkered past, but I was not ok seeing a man of advanced years treated in such a way.

Some of those interviewed here, I actually felt a little sorry for, worryingly obsessed, the kind of people that see conspiracies in every corner. I think it's plain to see there are some very unhealthy obsessions at play here. Coopercon, I think my jaw dropped. If that's your thing, you may enjoy it, some of the opinions expressed were a little embarrassing.

5/10.

Pure propaganda, boring, disappointing
jeemi-6480913 July 2022
The documentary didn't care about telling the story of DB cooper instead it want to convince us that Robert Rackstarw is dan copper, watching YouTube videos would be much more entertaining than this.

About 2 years ago, a YouTuber named LEMMiNO released a 30min documentary called « The Search for D. B. Cooper ». It's wonderfully done and it lays out all the information you need to know about the case. I remember this doc being quite captivating. It's straight to the point and, again, very well made. In a nutshell, it's everything this boring nearly 3-hour long tedious Netflix version is not.

YouTube has a better documentary
aneetpalsekhon14 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Couldn't there be a computer model with all the specs of that day put in, and seeing the landing area ?

  • May be he was in the plane ?

  • Don't know the exact jumping spot, as it's based on changing of pressure in the plain.

  • may it was staff ?

  • 30 min documentary on YouTube talked about more facts than this, at the end just to know that nobody knows.

I thought it was fun.
Agent1015 July 2022
Looking at the reviews on this page, I got to say there are a lot of people who just lead some rather rigid, miserable lives. It could be fellow "Cooper-ites" that just wish Netflix had made a series with them as the feature. Who knows. Here is the quick take on the documentary series. All conjecture for sure, but it is a nice insight into a world that people like myself would never suspect. I wouldn't say this is the greatest series of all time, but it did provide a look into a fascinating mystery that intrigues to this day.

In regards to the strengths, I felt it did present a wide swath of objectivity. It's pretty obvious that Mr. Colbert is deeply rooted in this process, and confirmation bias is a potential reality. We didn't really need someone to say it, the documentary showed it. He risked his health, wealth and name for something that is not even definitive. Yes, the accusation of "doing it for the money" is prevalent, but it's not like he is taking in the cash here people. On the other hand, he is not the only one that shares the opinion that Robert Rackstraw was D. B. Cooper.

Now I will agree with the idea about the series being a lot of fluff, but I still found it interesting in regards to the amount of information and documentary footage associated with this. Whether or not the conclusion is valid....we may never know. Either way, still interesting to watch.

It's a disgrace to documentaries to call this thing one
dinonegraff13 July 2022
4 episodes in which the D. B. Cooper actual story gets about 10-15 minutes. The rest of this tiring series is about the obsession of a man (Tom Colbert) and his team in accusing a man (Rackstraw) of the crime. Whether they are right or not gets lost in wrong tactics, harrasment and forced conclusions and by the end, as a viewer you only have the feeling of "just let it go already". Searches with metal detectors with idiotic background music, connecting numbers with names, conventions that remind flat earth ones and many elements that could have been a youtube video, not a 4 part documentary. Not even entertaining to watch.

Keying On One Suspect Is Fine, 4 Hours, Too Long.
AudioFileZ19 July 2022
There is fun in a kind of anti-hero story, especially if there is an on-going mystery and no one was harmed. That, in a nutshell, is the story of D. B. Cooper and his infamous act of sky-jacking a plane and getting away with the money. After this bit of fact everything else is pure speculation. This doc is basically the story of where that speculation led one investigative journalist and his cold-case team of investigators. Does it warrant four hours? I'd say no. Is the person this team claims to have been D. B. Cooper the right man? I can only say he's a pretty good contender of which there is still no smoking gun of irrefutable evidence. It is, however, a story that if told more concisely would rate higher. The jury is definitely still out and in that we'll probably get yet another doc in the future. I'm on the fence as to recommend this one as a result.

Disgrace to real documentaries
cptkmtsv14 July 2022
This is just about a bunch of guys hooked on an opinion on who DBCooper is.

The worst thing about it is the harrassement of Mr. Robert Rackstraw.

What an utter embarassement!

Should have been one episode long.
patgoodman888888883 August 2022
This documentary runs out of interesting content after the first episode,Harps on the same suspect over and over with some conspiracy nut at the helm of the investigation,I expected more from this because it is a captivating story but nothing new I'd revealed in this documentary.

This is Nonsense. I am DB Cooper
tomtpcarpe16 July 2022
Watching this I was waiting for the final reveal to be that Cooper was snatched out of the air by an alien craft and whisked away to who knows where. That would be just as believable as this tripe Netflix foisted on us. Mr. Colbert has convinced himself and no one else. Jesus in the toast, indeed. "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." I especially enjoy how Mr. Rackstraw continues to string these morons along. Shame on you, Netflix. In no sense of the word is this a documentary.

ITS FUN
backnblack-0612313 July 2022
Of course Cooper is dead now but its amusing listening to this story if i were to guess Ragsdale or whatever his name is was a Red Herring provided by the government to keep people off the real person but no ideal why they did that.

He just answered questions to make himself look guilty and hes obviously to smart to do that unless hes in on the fix.

Interesting story and perspective, but draught out
jsvanderburgh13 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The D. B. Cooper story is fascinating. However, this documentary chooses to focus instead on the culture and folks involved with investigations. It's a bold move, but frankly, there isn't really that much there to be told. If I had a penny for every time (the solid) interviewees mentioned the confirmation bias, I would be richer than D. B. Cooper by now.

There's a pattern of reused story points, visuals and editing styles. The upbeat jazzy scatting soundtrack doesn't really work either. It all feels a bit uninspired and cheap.

To its credit, this mini-series tells a story from a behind-the-scenes perspective that is relatively unique and untold, which I enjoyed. Thus, this is a fine documentary, no more no less.

The makers of this garbage deserve ridicule.
SpacemanBob16 July 2022
As do the morons harassing Mr. Rackstraw, a now older guy who turned his life around a long time ago.

This is bottom of the barrel tabloid TV. It's nothing similar to a legitimate documentary.

Very interesting and worth watching
johncg2520 July 2022
I think the downvotes are a bit odd, as people are convinced they know what happened and then fault the documentary for not agreeing with thier conclusion or preconcieved culprit. I agree with the documentaries premise and think its definitely possible they have solved the case. It's also just very interesting for anyone interested in the case, at all. Furthermore...the people disparaging it, and even in the episodes, who doubt the conclusion, have a vested interest to do so - to admit that they solved the case - means that they can no longer make money off of talking about "Who Was D. B. Cooper ?" So I find it funny the people giving it negative reviews when no one knows for sure, and if it is correct...than all the other people saying it is incorrect...would be out of out of a job pretty much. It is definitely plausable, and I think its at least #1 or #2 in top theories of what happened in the case, and definitely interesting and worth watching. (Also, there is another very strong reason they present for why the case was not "solved" officially" which they discuss in depth.....and is also extremely plausable.)

Great story & fun content. Only one issue
stevengawrys14 July 2022
This was a real good documentary. Really enjoyed it. My only negative comment is this ridiculous need to use dopey feminists posing as "expert" commentators. They cannot resist the temptation to dump on the airline stewardess of the 1970's. Why? The vast majority of viewers are turned off by this. The airline stewardess of the 1970's were friendly, worked hard & viewed this job as a great opportunity.

So Cringe
The mystery of DB Cooper has made a lot of people a lot of money, but not Cooper, as he highly likely perished in the 'jump', as most intelligent experts will attest to.

Being an expert in flight and skydiving, I can tell you that on a good day it is incredibly hard to predict the landing spot, now coupled with jumping from a passenger liner, in incredibly hazardous weather conditions, with a parachute that may or may not have been rigged to fail or perform poorly, in very unpredictable terrain, and it adds up to the 'hero' likely perishing in the attempt.

On the odds that he miraculously survived, there's an even better chance that he's likely long dead by now and won't ever be uncovered. He went to great lengths at the time to remain hidden and I'd have to wager a guess that if anyone were likely to crack this case, a federal agency would likely be the ones to do it.

This latest attempt at a money grab plays like bad reality television- and the attempts at 'gotcha' journalism (despite the protests claiming to hate it) are just so incredibly cringeworthy. All the actors who participated in this deserve the shame they feel, because this is becoming tedious and seriously delusional; most people now don't care, and anyone who might, have no idea who this person is.

Stop indulging your every whimsical flights of fantasy- this is poorly done, not entertaining, and isn't any better than tabloid news.

Not bad, but doesn't offer anything new.
clk264-649-71646319 July 2022
If you have no idea who DB Cooper was, or, anything about what he did, this is a great documentary for you. It's very insightful, non-bias, there's a lot of interesting background on multiple different people who could've been DB Cooper, and trails the one person who the majority of people thought was DB.

The Documentary offers a lot of in-depth look at people who are on the plane, interviewing them, and interviewing investigators of DB Cooper while also showcasing the curse of DB Cooper where if you've been trying to investigate anything into this crime, usually hit a dead end, sometimes after years and years of research. As one investigator put it, " I was convinced that Cooper was at least four people. And then, I took a step back and realized that is impossible for one man to be four separate people." However, most of us already know all this information, and this documentary is mainly for those who have stumbled across this real life spy/action star. It's all very fascinating, and very rich information that the average person will have a lot of fun with. It's really great animation for reenactments, and, it's just fun.

Too much witch hunt
bcandage14 July 2022
Colbert is insufferable to watch, stubborn conspiracy theorist with tunnel vision. Unfortunately I'm sure he got paid for this. Wish they focused more the other theories.

The show to nowhere
estathena221 July 2022
Lots of interviews, stock footage, and outlandish theories that lead nowhere - other than witnessing the producers of this shlock attempt to bribe, coherse, and entrap a man into admitting he's D. B. Cooper.

This isn't a documentary but a vanity project of a poor man's obsession.

DB Cooper almost incidental: a story of conspiracy theories
paulsmithinuk17 July 2022
Ep. 1 covers the hijack and escape and is a bit dry. Eps 2-4 though are all of the "citizen investigators" and their proof of various theories as to who Cooper is and what happened to the money. The numerology segment is worth the price of entry alone!!!

Cooper CON is right
mls418216 July 2022
I'll give this story two things: Cooper didn't kill anybody and everyone loves an unsolved mystery.

I realize some young people don't know this story and find it fascinating. Most of the rest of us have heard it over and over and there is nothing new added.

I did my housecleaning with this on and didn't miss anything even while vacuuming. So little time was wasted.

Whoever does Darren Schaefer's hair is a bigger criminal.
