A student film at best
dillon-morganr27 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It plays like one of those movies that would be featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000...the scenes are laughable and filled with stereotypes. The acting is somewhat decent but again reeks of student film project from the high school-type writing of the script to the film quality. The sexual fantasy scene was thrown in there to keep your attention, otherwise most would have stopped watching. From one gory scene to the next, people are picked off by this uninteresting "killer" that lacks any sort of suspense...if you want the gore and entertainment you would be better off watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre or some other gore fest.

A pretty much standard teen slaughter movie.
patrikbjrk14 March 2016
Someone is killing off local teens at a Halloween fun house. You've probably seen it all before.

The movie is OK at most. I've seen worse, but I've also seen a lot better. Acting isn't to bad but there is no real story, and even though the murders are entertaining special effects could have been much much better.

The killer could have been a little faster because some of the characters were really annoying.

As one of my friends used to say when we were kids: "Well... at least it was a horror movie."

Strictly amateur hour
SnoopyStyle15 December 2013
The story is badly done. The acting is community playhouse caliber. The only reason I watched this was for Danielle Harris. I'm sure the filmmaker knows her value, but she's really only one of an ensemble cast. It would seem more reasonable to have her as the big star of the movie.

I think the story is the killer seeking revenge for a girl who was bullied to death years earlier. I say I think because the characters are poorly defined. I didn't care about any of them. The actors read their lines like amateurs, and the characters are all douchy idiots. The only reason I like the kills is to shut them up. The bloody effects are also pretty amateurish. Some of it is laughable.

I guess everybody has to start somewhere. This Sean McGarry is starting at the bottom here. There isn't much interesting to grasp onto. Killing people in one of those Halloween scare-arama has some promise. It just needs somebody better to figure out how to do it right.

Most AWFUL movie of the year.../
ahlan3367 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
First off, how in the world did this get "5.0" points? Must be from the lame actors. Secondly, this movie was really really bad.

I watched this because I believe Danielle Harris still has it in her to become a great horror actress and seeing this movie coming out, I wanted to watch it. I did not want to watch the trailer for the fact that it can ruin movies for me. In that instance, I have made a very bad error. This movie, was so awful, the acting was similar to 3rd graders, that I had a HARD time watching it past the first 15 minutes.

From the beginning, you can tell how this movie would go and I found myself skipping most scenes. Not only is it predictable, the acting is horrendous, the "killings" are an ABSOLUTE JOKE, I was laughing at most of them, as you can definitely see the dummies that were covered in blood in what was to be a "body".

The end scene of the movie, the lady dies a painful, almost laughable death. That part humored me because it was so lame.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for your sanity and for the precious time you have on this earth, do not watch this unless you are either high or very drunk. AVOID!!

For the Phantom Stranger: THIS MOVIE IS SO BAD! THERE IS NOTHING GOOD THAT CAN COME FROM THIS HORRID MOVIE. You are most likely the actor or the producer trying to brainwash most people out of their money. All I have to say is....LET them be the judge on HOW HORRID this laughable, brain dead movie really is. I watch ALL types of horror, and there are BAD ones, there are GOOD BAD ones, and there are GREAT BAD ones. This one is so HORRID, I felt my IQ drop... Folks, I will let you be the judge of it, and Phantom stranger? start making better movies.

No redeeming qualities
realvedmak8 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If there is any credit to be given, then it is to whomever chose to use nice camera and not HD phone cam to film this :) Honestly, that's just about only way I can think of at this time that this movie could have been worse.

Kids at start can be excused for being bad actors. I cant make such excuse for rest of the cast. Acting is wooden throughout entire film.Casting is bad as every actor is just too plain and unmemorable. What should be young adults are bit too old looking for their roles, and look more like crowd of couch potatoes, in bad shape, slightly overweight. In other words what you would expect bunch of people in early 30's to perhaps look like, if they chose not to take care of themselves, or had kids and did not lose baby weight. Not people in early 20's that I assume they are supposed to be.

Script is terrible. Its what bunch of drunk frat boys might have come up with, while intoxicated. I watched this movie with bunch of people and nobody laughed at any point in the movie.

Sometimes I enjoy a bad movie. You know, B movie that is meant to be bad and that is its appeal. This is not one of those movies. Its just boring and predictable in unfun way, where everything takes too long to happen.

That's about it. I would not suggest this movie to anybody, for any reason.

Lackluster slasher clunker
Woodyanders1 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A handful of mean teenagers pull a nasty Halloween prank on a girl with a stutter that results in the poor lass being facially and emotionally scarred for life. Ten years later the folks responsible for this terrible incident receive a brutal comeuppance on Hallows' Eve. While director Sean McGarry delivers oodles of graphic gore and a satisfying smidgen of tasty gratuitous female nudity (gorgeous brunette Katie Griffith as the abrasive Susan bares her exquisitely bountiful breasts while masturbating in a bathtub and some mystery babe pops up for a totally ridiculous and unnecessary dream scene), McGarry alas crucially fails to generate much in the way of tension or spooky atmosphere. Worse yet, Raymond Mamrak's sloppy script suffers from an appalling lack of focus and cohesion: It's not only impossible to figure out who's supposed to be who amongst the guilty, but also the wonky timeline likewise is totally off (kids who were in their teens in the past look like they're pushing thirty in the present!). Moreover, the tin-eared profanity-ridden dialogue drops the f-bomb way too much and the irritating and obnoxious villains of the piece don't get bumped off fast enough. On the plus side, several cast members manage to do commendable work: Veteran scream queens Danielle Harris as the sweet Nicole Bates and Tiffany Shepis as the feisty Sarah contribute typically solid pro turns, Courtney Baxter makes a favorable impression as the fragile and vulnerable Eve Bates, and Ashley C. Williams of "The Human Centipede" bitches it up well as the snarky Ashley. In addition, the Halloween hayride setting gets put to pretty good use. Joseph Hennigan's passable cinematography unfortunately uses annoying fades at the end of a handful of scenes, but overall does the trick. However, Dan Dixon's redundant shivery score proves to be sheer torture on the ears. A disappointing slice'n'dicer.

Hallows Eve
dukeakasmudge13 September 2016
I know for a fact that if this movie wasn't named Hallows Eve I would've never even gave it a second glance.I LOVE Halloween & will really watch just about any movie based around the holiday.I wouldn't say Hallows Eve is a great movie but it was OK.It's worth watching once but ONLY once. After watching it, I don't think it's a movie you'll watch ever again. For the budget it was made on, I think they did a pretty good job.The special effects were just gross. If you're into that sort of thing then you might like this movie. The thing that stood out the most for me in Hallows Eve was Stephen Medvidick. He was GREAT as the (I can't use the words I really want to here) stoner Rudy. His character was the type of guy you wonder why you're friends with him in the 1st place.I want to check out other movies he's been in now..Hallows Eve was a pretty decent movie but like I said before, I don't think it's a movie you'll watch more than once

Run of the Mill 2010s Slasher with Good Concept and Practical Effects
Reviews_of_the_Dead28 July 2023
This is a movie that I'll be honest, I had never heard of until my sister told me about it. I'm assuming she checked this out as she is a fan of Danielle Harris and Tiffany Shepis. This is a rather low budget, independent horror film so I was willing to check it out with those two in it and sometimes, movies like this could be gems. I didn't know much aside from that.

Synopsis: years after a tragic accident that leaves a young child scarred for life, the people responsible pay - with their lives.

We start this movie off with a young girl dragging a wagon. From what I can tell, this is fall. Her name is Eve (Isobel Rose Costello). She is bullied by some kids who are older than her. They call her a tattletale and throw pumpkin guts all over her. She flees from them with only Tommy (David Nicolo) being nice to her. Eve ends up running out in front of a tractor that Matthew Bates (Nicholas Canning) is driving. He gets off it and panics seeing this young girl bleeding.

The movie then jumps 10 years into the present. Matthew (Raymond Mamrak) runs a haunted attraction. He is married to Nicole (Danielle Harris) who helps along with Tommy (Chance Michael Corbitt), Sarah (Tiffany Shepis) and Eugene (James Bagnell). Also, there is Eve (Courtney Baxter) who survived the accident but is now scarred.

We then get introduced to some other characters who will be attending the event. There is Ashley (Ashley C. Williams) who has Joe (Matthew Nadu) bring over her tickets. She comes onto him while knowing he has a girlfriend. He rebuffs her before it goes too far. Ashley is also a pothead who wants to score more from Rudy (Stephen Medvidick). He's a jerk who picks up the tickets from Sarah and this is where we get to see her standoffish attitude.

Others coming that night are Kate (Nikki Bell), Sarah (Kelly Boeckle), Roy (Joe Raffa) and a couple others. Roy is seeing Joe's sister and he gets upset when he kisses her in front of him. Roy is also the stepbrother to Sarah. This group is insufferable to be honest. They come to the haunted attraction to drink, smoke and just party. Things don't go as they plan though as someone is killing members of this group one by one. With the backdrop of the event, the patrons don't realize some of what they're seeing is real. Time is limited to figure out who the killer is before it is too late.

That is where I'm going to leave my recap for the movie as being a slasher movie; it doesn't have the deepest story. It does well in setting up why these teens are being picked off. There are red herrings that are shown and trying to figure out who is behind it. I like the idea that Eve was disfigured and that is the reason for the killings.

What is interesting here is the including of the two scream queens in Harris and Shepis. They are more of recurring minor characters to be honest. Nicole has married the owner of the attraction. I do think it is low hanging fruit to name it Bates Motel, especially when it is a cornfield and it doesn't seem to feature a motel as one of the sets. She is there to give comfort to Eve though and is overall nice. Sarah, as I said is more standoffish. She became someone that I thought could potentially be the killer from her attitude. It does work for me that she is also the stepsister of Roy.

Something that didn't work for me as I don't feel enough was put into the story. I don't come into slashers expecting them to blow me away with twists. The first issue here is that I wasn't sure who hurt Eve. I don't think that was established well enough and what threw me off is that 2 of the mothers of victims showed up to the event. This partially feels like body count, but the only people being killed are those that seemed to have been why Eve is disfigured. Thankfully part of my issue with the timeline was cleaned up by these mother characters. Ashley and that crew are all college age. At first, I thought they were going for high schoolers, but that isn't the case. The movie does well in whomever the killer is attacking those that weren't involved, but that only being they are in the wrong place at the wrong time and they need to be knocked out to figure out what is happening.

Moving away from the story, I'll go to what was the best here, which are the effects. When they went practical, I think they did a great job. The blood looked real and the gore did as well. They were creative with the kills, which I'm always glad for with a slasher. I'd also say the cinematography was good for how they would frame things to help hide what might not look as good, which is strategic. There was a bit of issue with a scene being shown during the day, shifting to another that seems to be at night and then back to a day shot. That confused me, which in turn took me out of what I was seeing though. What I also didn't like was the CGI. Thankfully they only did it with blood spurting and I'm assuming a bit of green screen. That didn't hold up for me and it looked fake unfortunately.

To then go to the acting, I thought it was solid. Harris, Shepis and Baxter were probably the best. The latter did overact a bit when it came to being upset. Aside from that, this trio did a solid job. Mamrak was fine as this concerned older brother to Eve and guy who runs this place. I also thought Bagnell and Corbitt were fine in their roles. They were potential suspects and with their anger, which works. The same could be said for Shepis as well. I'm not the biggest fan of our teens though. They are over the top and there was quite a bit of overacting there. It is good that I wanted to see them get murdered.

In conclusion, I think that there are some bright spots to this slasher while also things that were lacking. I must give credit to the practical effects. Those looked good. There are decent performances and the setting is solid. The story is lacking which hurts since I don't need much for slashers. There was overacting and the CGI wasn't great. The soundtrack though was solid enough and fit for what was needed. For me, this movie is average. I'm torn between what I like and don't like so I'll go right in middle for this reason.

My Rating: 5 out of 10.

Pretty Cool Slasher
kyleallencole98 November 2013
Hallow's Eve is a pretty cool late night horror flick. I really enjoyed the Halloween haunted fun house theme. Im a huge Danielle Harris and Tiffany Shepis fan, so i was excited to check this out, even though i saw this movie was distributed by Barnholtz entertainment. The plot was pretty easy to follow, a group of friends get invited to a small towns annual Halloween haunted country theme park. These friends years before were involved in a cruel prank that leaves a young girl severely injured and hal of her face disfigured. Now as a teen, she helps her family operate the haunted house attractions. As the night goes on, the responsible teens begin to be killed off. This revenge slasher is one of those where the killer is unmasked in the end. I found it pretty cool that people touring the attractions was convinced some the bodies were fake, when they were actually being killed. Not much of a twist to the killers identity though. And the kills were pretty graphic. Good set design also. This movie was fun, its worth at least a watch.

Pretty Much Ridiculous from Beginning to As Far As You Can Stand
dongillette12 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start out with the acting which is truly, truly horrendous. I'm guessing the little girl was supposed to have a stutter for some oddball reason, but people don't stutter like that. "M-m-matthew" isn't something you're liable to hear in speech therapy and about the third time she did it was plenty. Then we'll move on to her running in front of a tractor which plows her under. If you've ever been around farm equipment, you'll know that tractors aren't Formula One cars. In order to get run over by a tractor you'd have to have your feet in concrete. And hilariously, she looks up at the driver who just can't seem to stop in time--and the next time we see her, she's not only lying in a pool of chocolate syrup, she's under the trailer the tractor is pulling. So at 3MPH, he ran completely over her and didn't put on the brake until he'd squashed her with both the front and rear tires which is pretty much impossible since tractor tires don't line up front and rear. Best line ever, though, after the girl is squashed: "What have we done?" Second best line, "S-uhm-body g-het a dha-hah-ctor." That's supposed to be a combination of sobbing and talking in case the spelling threw you. Walk away--very quickly--and don't look back.

Unrelenting, Disturbing Horror At Its Most Intensely Powerful and Visionary
jlthornb5119 June 2015
Director Sean McGarry, working from a script by screen writer Raymond Manrak, has managed to make a riveting horror film with true style. McGarry uses his camera like a scalpel as he sculpts his vision into one of the most suspenseful motion pictures of the last half-decade. With a uniformly excellent cast and terrific dialog, the characters come across as very real and are beautifully realized. Once again, Danielle Harris gives a stunning performance and set the screen ablaze with her talent. She is a truly gifted actress and is simply superb in this film. One element of the motion picture that sets it apart is McGarry's ability to create atmosphere and an environment of true dread and fear. Some of the imagery is intensely haunting and will leave a lasting impression in any audience. With incredible suspense, sensitively realized characters, and a razor sharp screenplay, no one who sees this overwhelming film will forget the unrelenting horror that is Hallows' Eve.

A decent low budget slasher
Mister-Creeper25 October 2013
To begin with, there are only two other reviews for this film at the time of this writing and both give it a 1 rating. As in the worst possible score any movie can be rated on IMDb. The people giving this a one rating must not have seen very many low budget movies. I would suggest for them to take a look at IMDb's Bottom 100. There may be other ways to get there, but I just scroll to the bottom of IMDb's homepage and click on Top Movies link. From there you will see a link on the left side of your screen that says IMDb Bottom 100. Now just pick out a few of those titles that sound interesting to you, find yourself a copy somewhere (just don't pay too much for them, or better yet, see if a friend has any of them so you don't have to pay at all), try to watch them until the end and then reassess this film properly. I'll even give you a few examples of some films to watch for this assignment: BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR (2010), DISASTER MOVIE (2008), ZOMBIE NATION (2004), and HOUSE OF THE DEAD (2003). You will see that there are movies much worse than what you thought this one was. You just need some perspective.

Now onto the film at hand. For a reported budget of $300k, I feel this movie did very well. I may be somewhat biased because of two names in this film. Danielle Harris and the always beautiful Tiffany Shepis (who I wish would have had much more screen time). Both did very well in their limited parts, as expected. It's not everyday that one gets to see two of their favorite horror scream queens on the same screen. The rest of the cast was spotty, but acceptable. Courtney Baxter was looking very lovely too, even with her disfigured face. Matthew Nadu (Joe) and Stephen Medvidick (Rudy) did good as well. I wasn't sure about the character of Rudy to begin with, but he grew on me over the course of the film and did really well helping to carry this movie along. Some of the sets were a little cheap (Aberzombie & Twitch), but overall the haunted farm-like setting was decent, nothing too elaborate but good for the limited budget. I enjoyed this film and in the end it wasn't just because of the limited presence of Danielle Harris and Tiffany Shepis. The story was a bit weak but passable, as were the kills. Better than represented here on IMDb thus far. A solid 6 in my book for what the filmmakers were able to achieve with a very limited budget.

STTAF GETS NO RESPCT
nogodnomasters4 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a child Eve is teased by the older children which leads to a disfigurement accident. 10 years later the children who teased her are all together at a Halloween place known as the Bates farm not to be confused with the film "The Bates Haunting" also filmed in rural Pennsylvania. Eve (Courtney Baxter) manages to find a plastic surgeon who doesn't believe in skin grafts...ever. One by one.. oh heck you know the plot. It is a who dunnit, but we watch for the gore and girls.

There is some weird pot smoking scene which they either needed to do more of that kind of stuff or leave it alone entirely. The first mutilated dead face was pretty bad and made me laugh. The special effects needed to be taken to a higher plane. The dialogue needed to add to the character. As a stock slasher film it had potential, but will be content to run with the pack.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity

Modern Indie Cheese
TRussellMorris10 October 2023
So, actually it's a 6/10 but I always add an extra point for the horror haters who bomb pretty much all horror films on these sites.

To the film itself, sure it's typical low budget slasher fare, Good revenge setup, a bit mysterious in the villain, I thought almost to the end it was one person and turned out to be different character. The with the final end kill, well how was that? So left with a mystery. Satisfying. Acting from most was alright, a few were a bit flubby but of no significant level to bother me. Most of the kills were pretty good. A couple even got me...lol So the execution was pretty well done for a very low budget film.

I found the dialog, especially the cat fight between Sarah and Ryan at the ticket booth made me howl out loud, very funny smackdowns from both sides. It was in the end exactly what I thought it would be, and I enjoyed it for exactly what it was. Nice popcorn slasher cheese. Fun and entertaining in various ways. I do feel sorry for those who've lost the ability to have that thing...called fun. I bought the Blu-ray and don't regret it, enjoy having it in my collection.

Definitely not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be
jirish3515 November 2013
Sometimes I agree with some low ratings. But sometimes people's ratings Are just completely so far out of whack it isn't even funny. They are so off that I don't even think a new one would fix the problem. It is more likely the person behind the scale. People come on here and throw one's around like they are like it is their first time at the strip club. Honestly, this is not the Worst movie you will ever see. I promise you... Not even close. If it is, then I am really sorry for you. I wonder the what the three worst movies you saw Before this was.

But I am not here to attack people who rate movies ones. I just really feal like It really does throw some people off of movies that they may have actually liked. Now maybe this movie isn't one of em'. Maybe other People won't like this Either. But it ain't no 1. I actually I agree with another poster. For a low-budget Film this was a pretty decent film. And I really like Danielle Harris. She definitely Wasn't in the movie enough. But the movie had a good plot, little mystery in it, had its share of blood, and the setting that the movie took place in was cool. The only thing it really lacked was money for some big time production. But for What they had, they pulled it off pretty damn good. Definitely your lower level average horror movie. 5-6 but definitely watchable!

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.......But FUN!
Dark_Lord_Mark13 October 2018
I mistakenly looked at this movie thining it was ALL Hollow's Eve, which came out the same year, and was saddened by how low budget it LOOKED!

But then I recognized a girl from the Hatchet series, the best original horror series movie wise, made past 2000. And then some stupid stuff at the beginning, some more terrible acting, and some amazingly stupid plot.

All the above added up to a very stupid horror movie, but fun. Funny lines, scenarios and oh yes....sexy girls and sex appeal.

Bad movies are fun. As long as they have a good pace, can be enjoyable.
