Very enjoyable show so far... (can't believe all the bad reviews!)
branden-findeisen3 February 2012
I had to write a quick review because I was blown away at some of the completely exaggerated negative reviews by some.

Going in, I had no huge expectations, but I like the list of voice actors and producers, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. I think it is somewhat accurate when people say it's almost like a 'feel-good' Beavis & Butthead story; but I like it! I think Hornsby and Long do well to make the viewer like their playfully ignorant characters.

To me, the main things that stood out after watching to first few episodes were likable and interesting characters, but also the animation. I know some have been negative about the animation, but I was personally blown away by it. I definitely think it is one of the highlights of the show.

All in all, it's definitely worth watching the first few episodes. I know after I did, I immediately put 'Unsupervised' on my DVR and can't wait until the next episode!

Slow Start, but picks up
golaughlin24 February 2012
So if you have read the other reviews, you can tell that this is one of those "either you love it or hate" shows. I enjoy it immensely although it is not without its shortcomings. Pros: The two main characters are naive and incredibly likable. The voice acting is superb, the secondary characters are solid as well. The stories themselves are original, humorous, and lighthearted; as are the jokes. Cons: It takes some time getting used to the characters and their situations. The plot sometimes either takes too long to develop or it never fully matures.

You can't make a judgement on just watching one episode and it takes a few viewings to get into the story. I did not add this show to my DVR recordings until after 4 episodes. I would like to see how the characters develop in the future.

Solid Pairing to Archer...Plus, it's early...
AMichaelL26 January 2012
The first few episodes have been tolerable, and actually IMO, funnier than MTV's similarly themed 'Good Vibes'. It is hard to judge a show so early, I remember lots of people disliked Archer at first, too(Thompson and Reed, as in creators of Archer, Sealab, and Frisky Dingo, are producers on Unsupervised- they know comedy, people). I, for one, will be tuning in, if for no other reason than to kill time waiting for Archer. The voice cast is pretty solid, and they seem to be taking Archer's lead and making it a much more grown up version of a cartoon show about kids. I really like how positive the kids are despite their terrible conditions...it is pretty refreshing.

A kinder, gentler dirty cartoon.
thedottedlion28 January 2012
"Unsupervised", though a little subtler than it's lead in, is actually a great adult cartoon. It's a step up in animation from the usual cable cartoons, and it has something that I feel has been missing from TV animation for a while... good characters and thoughtful stories.

The two main kids are a bit like a sweet-hearted Beavis and Butthead, and they're surrounded by a funny and diverse cast of supporting characters. Anyone who grew up poor can identify with a few things from the first two episodes, which is maybe why so few people seem to understand this little gem.

The stories of the first two episodes are actual stories, which is good news for people who may tire from the shotgun approach of, say, every Seth Mcfarlane show (I like them, but you get the point). So if this alternatively cute and foul show gets canceled, you only have yourself to blame the next time you complain about the current trend of non sequitur jokes and one dimensional characters.

Really Good

I don't right reviews, ever. But this show has gotten some bad press. The comparison to Bevis and Butthead is short. This is like B&B if they had actual personalities. And the west PA accent on Joel is awesome. The dialog is fantastic. I don't see how any of that is like B&B. I don't right reviews, ever. But this show has gotten some bad press. Very Enjoyable
koenig3226 January 2012
This show didn't look too promising based on the previews but it's actually got a lot going for it.

Firstly, the voice acting is great. That is clearly going to be a major strength for this series. Secondly, it's got excellent supplementary characters. The main characters are cool, but like south park, the real comedy lies in the fringe characters.

Couple other things this show does well - it's fun, has good timing, doesn't seem to hit too many one note jokes, and the animation works for it. Some people have bashed the animation but how many good comedies have pristine animation? Sometimes rougher animation is way funnier... Archer, South Park, Tom Goes to the Mayor, etc.

I'm not sure why other reviewers are hating so hard, I thought it was funny and would really like to see how it develops.

Love this show!
alcl36923 April 2012
I think this show is wonderful. I am a big fan of Justin Long and Kristen Bell and also a fan of "Archer" and "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." I couldn't believe when I read all the negative reviews. The animation goes great with the shows premise and I find the show to be hilarious as well as easy to watch again. The shows satirist view on inner city youth is not only funny, but shines a light on a real issue, "unsupervised" teenagers growing up in the city. Being from the city myself, I enjoy the shows graffiti-ish animation. I look forward to a second and hopefully many seasons to come. I will be disappointed if the show is snubbed for it's "off beat style of comedy" and is canceled due to lack of popularity.

Garbage
DoctorRabbit23 January 2012
This is one of the worst animated shows i've ever seen. It's nothing but a really cheap Beavis and Butthead rip off. The two leads are incredibly bland and unlikeable. The humor tries to be edgy and fails at it. The animation is awful looking. This looks like the kind of show that would be on Adult Swim, but they actually have a brain not to air something as awful and trashy as this. And worst of all, the show is painfully unfunny. I could go on forever about how awful this show is, but I don't want this to turn into a rant. I don't understand how people can hate on shows like Allen Gregory, but turn around and defend trash like this. Hopefully, this show gets canceled fast and we will never have to hear about it ever again.

check it out for yourself, i really love this show
tharealhiphop17 February 2012
Unsupervised is a great show, its not like Beavis and Butthead, all the characters are more complex and have their own distinct personalities and issues to deal with. Some episodes (like any show) are better than others but overall i find myself laughing at this show a great deal. The voices and animation are solid, not mind blowing but look what southpark did with their animation. All in all i really hope this show gets a second season, just cause its positive and about kids growing up doesn't mean it should be attacked by people that mostly just hate Always Sunny; you do need to have some kind of connection to your childhood to fully appreciate the show.

Since this was on FX I missed it when it was new. Wish I would have just left it that way.

fun social critique that makes you laugh and think
sydboy00716 March 2012
I have to say that unsupervised is one of the best shows of 2012.

Gary and Joel are so naive in the way they see the world, but it's refreshing to see a world that has such wonder and possibilities.

The show has the social commentary like south park, but with less of the in your face, and more of the oh I didn't think of that.

Each episode gives me a good laugh, but also leaves me with some thoughts about modern society.

I'm sort of jealous of Joel and Gary. There's still magic in the world for them.

If you liked the life and times of Tim, I'm sure you'll enjoy unsupervised.

Funny and Clever
sangermata18 March 2012
I think this show is hilarious. It's obviously made for young adults and older as it contains strong language, sexuality, and drug references. The show appears very immature and thats why it does not appeal to the arrogant, narrow-minded "intellectual" audience. But little do they know that the show is very well scripted. Underlying all the immature comedy and stupidity lies very cleverly placed messages. The show is all about two best friends exploring life as they go through high school and deal with teenage problems under almost poverty-stricken circumstances, broken homes, and the obvious peer pressures that come with puberty and teenage lifestyle. Everyone can relate to this, it's reminiscent of most people's childhood, except for the stuck up "intellectuals" who had no life growing up, and think they're too good for this show. The people that this show relate to probably can't afford cable television to watch it or are too busy dealing with personal problems. Overall this show is hilarious, cleverly written, and surprisingly heart warming. It has a strong complementary cast of characters that hit every element of a smart comedy. Rob is my favorite character, his randomness spikes the comedy in this show.

Short but sweet
amicia685123 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
It's not The Simpsons, it's not Archer but Unsupervised is a show with memorable characters and quotable moments. It's a show where you have to pay attention to the banter between the characters to understand the humor, there's not really any physical comedy. Most of what I found funny about the show was how naive the characters were (being 15, it's expected of them). The two main characters, Joel and Gary, come come from very sad homes. Joel has a 40 year old, drug addict brother and two parents in their 60s or 70s. Gary's dad left when he was very young and only has an apathetic stepmom to take care of him. Despite this, the two are optimistic about life.

Most episodes involve Gary and Joel discovering something they don't like (they're too young to give blood, no one respects local firefighters) and try to fix this in their own way (such as getting fake IDs to give blood or setting fires to buildings to make the firemen seem important).

Unfortunately, the show is very short, only 13 episodes. Because of this, however, every episode is special and will mean something to the viewer.

Very Unenjoyable
rivetedtotv30 January 2012
So many words come to mind when I think about this stupid show and it pains me to insult words even describing how much I want this waste of time to be canceled but I signed up just to lash out against this and anything the down sliding Always Sunny in Philadelphia people try to come up with from now on. I used to be a fan of these guys. They took a low budget idea and made it sort of big. Then they gave David Hornsby a free hand and watch what he does. He comes up with How to be a Gentleman which had the distinction of not being Work It, otherwise it died a similarly deserved death. Now he brings Beavis & Butthead easy listening to FX, a usually edgy cool network, and pisses all over its viewers. Any dicks trying to compare this to Archer, Louie or any innovative show on FX is either a dimwit and has no idea what they're watching, or they work for Hornsby or have friends who do. Do yourself a favor and watch something else. This show doesn't deserve any support from the FX viewer ship at all.

What the freak!
Ndoggy2615 March 2015
Why is there only one season of this show!? This show rocked me to the core :) "Joel voice" I realize I'm a couple years late to the party but I really like this show. The animation is great, the voices are great, characters are great and it's funny with a side of warm heartening lessons thrown in there mix. I'm 31 so it reminds me a little of Beavis and Butthead without the music videos. I like how Gary and Joel are best buds and they're so positive about all kinds of aspects of life. I'm done but I need ten lines of text to officially make a review of a show so I guess I will add in that I really hope this show makes a comeback.

Anyways, if there's anything I can do to help bring this show back just tell me where to sign!

Team Hornsby...
stugotz198221 January 2012
should stop foisting awful garbage on us. I was watching the Archer season opener and gave this steaming pile a chance. So much for the high powered lead in. I hope Archer doesn't get the stench of this waste of space on it. Like How To Be A Gentleman, Fanboy & Chum Chum and even the lame ass Cricket character from Sunny, Hornsby never fails to disappoint. The jokes hardly need the MA rating, which seems to be in place only to gain a few viewers. The premiere got a 0.5 share and needs to credit the lead-in show for that small bit of encouragement. I predict next week's share will fall to 0.3 or lower and the show will be canceled before spring.

Glowing reviews?
pinklady131329 January 2012
On its best day this show couldn't get a 10 star. Someone, interns for the show probably, is ginning up the data. I was sorta swayed by the hype and liked the cast and the production muscle behind it but this show is just about as bad as it gets. It's not funny at all. The type 2 diabetes kid is almost funny but every joke out of his mouth is something I've seen on The Cleveland Show and Family Guy. Was really hoping this wasn't going to suck ass but it does. Dave Foley, deadbeat dad of Canada, was supposedly in last week's episode which I watched for about 5 minutes despite the weak premiere. Archer is still cool though. Maybe those guys can do another animated series and the Sunny gang can stick to brilliant characters like Cricket.

pretty horrible show
I like the actors, its not a issue of voices. It is a matter of show content. This is like a feel good edition of Beavis and butt-head. Meets Napoleon dynamite. The script is drawn out the animation is like plants vs zombies. Unlike plants vs zombie this show is not funny so false advertising. Maybe the 2nd episode will be better i will give it 2 more shots if by episode 3 this show is not better i wont watch it. even other people that have watched it feel the same age range is 15-30 so unless they are gearing this show toward 12 year old.
