Entertaining series!
gdcampbell-2147412 March 2023
I wasn't sure what to expect from this new series but I'm really enjoying it.

Victoria is a writer of mysteries and her writing is losing its edge. Darby is a police officer who wants to become a detective. Mother and daughter duo, Victoria (Lea Thompson) and Darby (Stacey Farber) start working together to solve crimes and in doing so, begin to mend their fractious relationship.

Although Victoria and Darby don't have a good relationship in the beginning, as the series progresses you can see them starting to realize they are a little too much alike and both need to give a little if they are going to be able to live and work together.

The episodes have been entertaining so far with a combination of humour (thank you Lea Thompson) and drama and the storyline moves at a good pace. All in all, a very likeable series.

The parental disdain is hard to take

I like the quick moving detective work between Darby and Victoria, and rubbing each other the wrong way seems to inspire them to discover the hidden truth,....buuuut...

Darby seems too entitled for my taste in her dealings with her mother. She almost seems irrational in her anger, and ungrateful for Victoria's help, financially and in the sleuth work. I wish the writers would create a bit more balance in Darby's character.

I like yesterday's episode BTW, because I can relate to it from my own experience. I develop Android apps, and I'm always careful to have well hidden backups of my code and to keep my home address private. I scratch my head when someone like the developers in this program do not take these precautions. It's their livelihood!

Will keep watching

Saw the first 2 episodes. It's a crime show with decent amount of comedy and a bit of drama, it's lighthearted.

The 2 main characters and crime solvers are a mother and daughter so it's a bit of an unusual dynamic duo. I like these 2 characters and the good actresses are why I will give the show a chance, the only other recurring characters so far are 2 gay men in very minor roles, they are very cliche and stereotypical. There is also a potential love interest ex boyfriend doctor not sure if he will be a regular.

The crime cases so far have been rather bland but I will give the show a chance.

Murder She Wrote.. It is not!

Feels like simple fluff, where the crime gets figured out before it even starts.. The clues oddly just fall in their lap,it's all too easy(Scooby-Doo)gave us more to figure out! Lol.

I agree with others the title is an odd choice, despite it being a failed attempt comedic-wise.

It's full of clichés,plot holes & more! As mentioned,fluff.

Not saying it's the worse tv show, however don't feel this will be a long-lasting series.

It was cast ok decent & acting ok,plus above-average cinematography.

The dynamic between daughter and mom, seem a bit far fetched.. Not sure if it's Lea trying too hard in her acting, working at recapturing her youth & so forth.

Also.. Why is the daughter so bitter and full of angst, she just seems a bit entitled yet so does mom.

Worth a watch but, don't expect quality either.

A light-hearted detective series
cin_kong22 April 2023
I really liked how this series took off. There is a real odd couple quality to Victoria and Darby, that is quite refreshing.

The mysteries are often easy to solve, given the facts surface with each clue.

With each episode, there is a growing respect from Darby for her mother and the people surrounding them. The more she has been with Victoria, the more it seems their bond deepens. By the end of the season, we see how much Darby does care for Victoria.

We should probably get to know more about the supporting cast. I am just not sure how it should be handled. The character dynamics seems to be OK for now.

I look forward to what the next season may bring.

Enjoyable

I just happen to stumble across this little show. And now I am sitting here binging . It's a light hearted little detective series featuring a mother and daughter duo. I love Lea Thompson. It reminds me a bit of a Hallmarkish detective series. After a couple of episodes, I have become very invested in these characters. The town setting charming. There is a cast of interesting supportive characters. I am waiting to see what happens with the daughter's romantic life in particular with her ex. The mom's character is well played. I can think of several people who could relate to this relationship between the two. I hope this series continues.

Another lame crime procedural show we didn't need
Top_Dawg_Critic18 February 2023
What's with the title - The Spencer Sisters, when it's a mom and daughter? I'm a fan of both lead ladies, but whoever came up with the name just makes the show cringeworthy and makes it feel like it's a mid-life crisis show specifically for Lea Thompson. Plus there's zero suspense or thrills that aren't cliched from every other similar TV show, and all attempts at humor are misfires. This show is another example of embarrassing Canadian productions and their lack of originality. Although the pilot was decent, every episode after that is basically boring and unwatchable, and done over many times before, and better.

Finally a smart show for older viewers!!!

Love this series and the cast. Binge watching this currently and am not disappointed....in fact I am thrilled! Don't drop this show....please!

CW has notoriously catered to the young which is wonderful but you have been neglecting the parents, aunts and uncles of the young!

Mysteries like this without all the blood and gore are also a rarity but much appreciated. This program thankfully doesn't give me nightmares!

I personally hope this is a new long term trend for the CW. You will have a permanent fan in me and others like minded. You can't go wrong with these stars! Keep up the great work!

OK show
nancipattenden5 March 2023
It's nice to see another show set in Canada, and the actresses playing the lead roles are great. However, I don't really care for the "sisters" thing. Surely they could have come up with something better. Sure, its a cute running gag, but as a title it's misleading. And I don't like the mother at all. Nothing against Lea, but she has zero regard to her daughter's feelings and concerns. The last episode I watched she did say nice things to her at the end, but I'll bet that will be forgotten next episode.

My other ussue with the show is them calling themselves private investigators. A license is required in whatever province you work in. Why has the cop friend never mentioned that?

Lea
kjohn-7426418 October 2023
Always been a huge fan of Lea and that is what made me interested in the show. It's not groundbreaking; but it is a good show. Unlike some shows today, you can have a laugh and not have someone pushing an agenda in your face. There is a little friction between mother and daughter (so that makes the show more realistic based on my daughter and her Mother). It is not going to win any major awards probably; but sometimes you just need a little escape from all the crazy things going on in your world. It is kind of like reading a science fiction book.... you know it is not reality; but that is what you are escaping from, right?

Brainless fluff with no real mystery or suspence.
lenwenzellw13 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really love a good mystery. Regrettably that has nothing to do with this series. In the first few minutes we see Darby, a police woman who apprehends criminal after criminal, when the misogynistic detective who is criminally brain dead dismisses her observation that will lead to a quick apprehension, complains to her boss about her failure to follow a senseless order. She quits in frustration and heads home to find her scummy boyfriend trying to hide another woman in the closet. Leaving this bad relationship, and bad job she heads to her last resort, her somewhat narcissistic writer mother. A few moments later she is trying to help her good friend who's paper was dismissed for plagiarism. This brainless drivel continues for another eternity, and showcases almost every cliche possible in this setting.

Only a production that pays no homage to real mysteries, and is produced by bean counters eager to produce quick fluff for what is a modern brainless woke market can get involved in a production like this. There is NO suspense or mystery here, just Fluff.
