Getting quite tired of the whole agency being uncooperative
redactedprofile30 January 2023
One of the most annoyingly tired overarching storylines when it comes to a successful unit within a larger organization is to have the rest of the organization look like uncaring incompetent wads, or jerkass uncooperative team mates, or bureaucrats trying to destroy a winning formula from any angle possible. And that's back on full display here.

The rest of the episode is great, but this portion of red tape manages to destroy any enjoyment I can get from watching it.

All I really wanted and hoped for, was for the band to get back together in a grittier, slightly more realistic modern setting, and solve some crimes and take our some unsubs. While I'm enjoying the "Network" story arc, the internal Bureau politics is not exactly welcome.

Better than the first two !

Okay that was a lot better now, the first two episodes were only talk talk talk, confusing plots crossing. In epispde 3 we got some acting.

Criminal Minds was Always at its best when the killer was known from the start and we get to see him in action. A great criminal Minds episode in when 50% of screen time is on the killer 50% on the team. Like the fantastic episode with Mitch Pillegi as the killer. ( Season 4 i believe) And often more boring episodes was when we ( us on TV not the team of course) only knew the identity of the killer the last 5 minutes.

I believe again in Criminal Minds Season 16 ,even without Spencer, Hotch and Derek.

Warning: Spoilers
The first two episodes of the reboot Criminal Minds: Evolution were really strong last week and exactly the kind of fresh and original programming we need more of to launch on Thanksgiving Day. This episode was still okay, but it is clear they are not going to be able to have a full season of crazy content so not every hour will be as good as the others.

I want more of a focus on the system though and not just the head of it. We got it, he has a difficult backstory, but obviously we will never sympathize with a serial killer so we do not need to have quite as many scenes showcasing his ordinary struggles.

WTF?
Johnny_West14 December 2022
So we meet the mentor / guru of the serial killer network, and he is behind on his bills and gets fired from his job. His response is to pick up a random guy that looks like his rude neighbor, and torture him to death.

The serial killer's next-door neighbor, in what looks like an upper-class community, is some beer-swigging low-class drunk who verbally abuses the serial killer dude and his kids. Using the stereotype drunken hillbilly neighbor is really lazy writing copied from a million other TV shows.

The serial killer mentor / guru is a pathetic and dishonest loser. He lies to his wife and kids every time he talks to them. Getting to know how crappy his life is does not make any of this story better.

How does a financially broke guy get shipping truck containers full of torture devices all over the USA? Just the 12 sites that were located by the BAU would cost at the very least a couple of million dollars or more to put in place.

Overall, this episode made the story arc seem even more ridiculous than it is. The writing is really bad. When it was just a random sociopathic killer, the stories made a lot more sense.
