The Bullwinkle Show
In the "Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties" segment, "Mother Love", Dudley Do-Right enjoys keeping up with "Renfrew" in the newspaper. Sgt. Douglas Renfrew is the fictional Mountie hero of Laurie York Erskine's "Renfrew of the Royal Mounted" series of boys' adventure books and stories (published in the 1920s and '30s). Renfrew's adventures were also broadcast as a radio series and adapted for films (starting with Renfrew of the Royal Mounted (1937)).
In the 'Fractured Fairy Tale' of the 'Three Little Piggs' [sic] the 'villain' is introduced as Henry Q. Wolf, and is first seen sitting in the midst of piles of magazines and Racing Forms. Titles on the magazines reveal that he might not be a pillar of the community: "Zip", "Wow", "Beautys Women", "Babes" and "Girls", for example. The magazine he, himself, is reading is "Gay Boy". Later, as he is playing the piano, he's reading "Gay Boy Annual".
