The Mindy Project Pilot

Warning: Spoilers
Mindy is a doctor looking for movie love so she dates anybody who she feels makes her think of a movie love. So when we find her in the pilot she is explaining moments that lead her to getting arrested, which is when her ex boyfriend gets married she drinks a lot at the wedding riding home on a bike but falling into a pool which then gets her arrested. Then we get to see more characters as they set up the rest of the cast including a funny other male nurse who helps her once when it comes to dating like what to wear.I very much like this pilot because to me of the late FOX pilots it felt in the vain of New Girl and not Running Wilde. Mindy has had a strong voice and it's great to finally see her get the chance to show her talents rather then be wasted on The Office. The beginning was very funny especially the use of a voice-over which got less impressive as the episode went on (If that's used in every episode I may hate the show). Of course Mindy made a strong impression but the Chris Messina seems to fit the role of a breakout role like Greenfield did on new girl as I found Messina to be very funny. I will watch the rest of the season as I find Mindy very charming and has a great screen presence.

EPISODE GRADE: B+ (MVP: Mindy Kalling)

Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) is an Obstetrician in her early 30s who hopes life turns out to be a lot like the rom coms she loved to watch as a kid.

This first episode had a solid but unspectacular start. We have flashbacks of Mindy finding romance but then gets dumped by her now ex for a Serbian woman with crooked teeth. Mindy still attends the wedding, gets drunk and makes an embarrassing speech.

In its heart, it is about a single woman looking for love. The main difference is, the star of the show is of East Indian origin. In some regards that is a breakthrough.

Kaling has a likeable appeal without getting too cutesy. The episode moves along at a fast pace but it was not that funny. It was also the kind of sitcom which seems to be proliferating American television. The young woman looking for the perfect man.
