So Cold the River opens with former hotshot documentary director Erica Shaw making a slideshow for someone’s funeral. It’s about all the work she can get since one of her films proved a convicted killer’s innocence. Only for him to slaughter his entire family as soon as he was released.
One of those slide shows leads to her being hired by Alyssa Bradford to shoot a biography of her father, Campbell Bradford. With a bottle of Pluto Water, mineral water with alleged healing properties as her only clue, she heads to the town of West Braden Indiana to begin shooting. Saban Films has acquired North American and South African rights to “So Cold The River,” a new thriller from Paul Shoulberg. The deal, which was forged with UK-based distribution and sales company Blue Finch Films, also includes rights to distribute the film in Australia and New Zealand rights via Saban’s partners at Defiant Screen Entertainment.
Shoulberg, best known for “The Good Catholic,” also wrote the script, an adaptation of the novel by Michael Koryta (“Those Who Wish Me Dead”). The film stars Bethany Joy Lenz as a documentary filmmaker who soon realizes her subject isn’t who he claims to be.

CBS Television Studios has acquired A Welcome Grave and will develop the private eye storyline for a series that will be produced by the Kennedy/Marshall Company. A Welcome Grave is the third book in Michael Koryta’s award-winning Lincoln Perry series, and follows the private investigator as he finds himself in the crosshairs of two police investigations when an old rival is brutally murdered. Koryta’s latest novel, The Prophet, was recently acquired by Nick Wechsler, with Magic Mike‘s Reid Carolin adapting the feature. Koryta is in the middle of adapting his own novel, So Cold The River, as a feature for New Regency. Koryta was represented by Angela Cheng Caplan on behalf of Inkwell Management’s David Hale Smith and attorney Lawrence Rose.
