A filmmaker who goes we back with Sundance when his short film (Asshole) premiered there at 2009, filmmaker Chadd Harbold flirted with the fest when his sophomore film How to Be a Man (2013) was invited to the festival’s run-off fest in Los Angeles (Sundance Next Weekend). For his fourth feature film, Harbold reteamed with Shiloh Fernandez (Long Nights Short Mornings), and landed Ashley Benson, Logan Miller, Frank Whaley and Jay Pharoah for the set in Los Angeles remake of the 1960 noir film of the same title (read our review).

Ashley Benson, Shiloh Fernandez, Logan Miller, Frank Whaley and Jay Pharoah are starring in “Private Property,” a remake of the 1960 noir film of the same title.
The movie recently wrapped production in Los Angeles and was written, produced, and directed by Chadd Harbold. The original film, written and directed by “Outer Limits” creator Leslie Stevens, was out of circulation for 30 years and considered lost, until it was restored and re-released by Cinelicious Pics in 2016 to critical acclaim.
In the remake, Benson stars as Kathryn, a struggling actress and unfulfilled housewife who becomes involved with her new gardener Ben, played by Fernandez. As he gives her the attention and sensitivity she craves, they start to fall for each other. But, in true noir fashion, Ben is not all that he seems.
Benson is best known for her work in “Spring Breakers,” “Her Smell” and the teen mystery-drama series “Pretty Little Liars.

Exclusive: Investor and Tony Award-winning producer Kevin J. Kinsella (Jersey Boys) and actress Paten Hughes (Heirloom) have launched film and TV banner Cowboy + Cougar Entertainment.
Kinsella and Hughes will look to write and produce around 4-6 projects per year in the prestige and commercial spaces and will have the capacity to develop, package and finance. Already on the slate are books Confessions Of An Alien Hunter by astronomer Seth Shostak, which Cowboy + Cougar will adapt as a sci-fi TV series called Fermi’s Paradox, and Julia Oliver’s Goodbye To The Buttermilk Sky, which the company will adapt as a feature film.
The latter is a coming-of-age romantic drama in the vein of Bridges Over Madison County about a young woman, Callie, in Depression-era 1938 rural Alabama whose torrid affair with a handsome stranger jostles her life trajectory. Lily Houghton (Day By Day) is writing the adapted feature film script.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
American Pastoral (Ewan McGregor)
If my limited experience with Philip Roth adaptations is any indication, his novels deal in emotion. There are existential crises concerning identity involved, each a character study about life’s impact beyond the surface experiences propelling them forward. This isn’t something easily translated from page to screen when so much consists of internalized motivation. You must really look into the text, ignoring plot to...

One of the more impressive New York City-set indie dramas we’ve seen in the last year is Long Nights Short Mornings, which has enjoyed a festival run since its debut at South by Southwest Film Festival. Directed by Chadd Harbold, it follows Shiloh Fernandez‘s character as he searches for romance in the city to varying results. Also starring Natalia Dyer, Christine Evangelista, Cassandra Freeman, Stella Maeve, and Addison Timlin, we’re pleased to debut the exclusive trailer from The Orchard ahead of a release next week.
We said in our review, “Long Nights Short Mornings, written and directed by Chadd Harbold, follows in the footsteps of the “playboy in crisis” sub-genre, populated by the likes of Alfie, Shampoo, Arthur, and Roger Dodger. ‘I do so many stupid things. Each conquest is designated by each woman’s name. Monica (Paten Hughes) is a one-night stand thwarted by some lost keys; Sarah (Layla Khoshnoudi) is a good friend who becomes something more, for a few minutes anyway; Lily (Stella Maeve) is a steady hook-up about to slip away. The list, much like the nights, go on and on.
James wanders through New York City as though in an endless loop, constantly on his way back to a home he will never get to. The city is captured...

In a modern culture where over over-sharing every intimate detail of your personal life has become the standard norm for most people, as they determinedly strive to prove their worth, others choose to remain protective of their background. The need for some people to remain mysterious to the outside world not only means it’s possible to remain control over how others view them, but also protects them from having to form meaningful relationships. The new romantic drama, ‘Long Nights Short Mornings,’ follows an alluring protagonist as he strives to remain emotionally unattached from the multiple women he dates. The film’s writer-director, Chadd Harbold, powerfully created a cryptic main character, for [ Read More ]

Having flirted with the Sundance festivities with his 2009 selected short film Asshole, and in the sister Next Weekend event back in 2013 with his sophomore film, Chadd Harbold, who so far has several shorts and two features under his belt in Revenge for Jolly! (2012) and How to Be a Man (2013) has had his third film lined-up for a couple of years now. Shiloh Fernandez toplines Long Nights Short Mornings, a drama that some might compare to Steve McQueen’s Shame as it focalizes on one man’s desires in our social app hook up age. Production began in Brooklyn this past June, so this has had a little time to congeal.

The reigning queen of American independent cinema has a rich history with Sundance — she premiered her debut film 1994’s River of Grass (which was recently digitally restoration) and Old Joy (2006) there and saw 2010’s Venice-tiff-nyff preemed Meek’s Cutoff find additionally play but the chances of seeing Kelly Reichardt’s sixth feature film premiere in Park City are highly unlikely. Shot the past spring in Montana with stalwarts Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, James Le Gros, Jared Harris and Rosanna Arquette, we’re more inclined to think that the Altmanesque-sounding Livingston is best suited for Cannes and what would be Reichardt’s first Main Competition bid. Based on the NYTimes best of 2009 short story collection Both Ways is the Only Way I Want It, Spwa recently landed the international rights to the picture.

He’s had a hard time of it being the King of the North on Game Of Thrones, so perhaps Robb Stark – aka as actor Richard Madden – will have a better time of it as a prince. Kenneth Branagh and Disney certainly think so, as he’ll play the Prince in the new, live-action Cinderella.Downton Abbey’s Lily James is already aboard as the titular girl who becomes a princess for a night, and Cate Blanchett has been attached for a while to play her wicked stepmother. We don’t yet know what tweaks the script (currently credited to Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz) will make to the original fairy tale story, but we do know the film has already lost one director in Mark Romanek, who departed over creative differences. Still, Branagh definitely has the chops to bring this one in with style.Madden has previously appeared...
