This episode marks the last appearance of Linus Roache as Michael Cutter in the Law & Order franchise.
Quaalude is a slang term for the hypnotic-sedative drug methaqualone, at one time it was a prescription drug used to treat insomnia and anxiety but it was removed from the market around the world in the early 1980's due to wide-spread misuse, abuse and deaths from overdose and drug interactions. Methaqualone also starting falling out of wide-spread use by doctors starting in the early 1970's because other drugs that provided similar effects with less risk of adverse affects and abuse were being used more frequently, like benzodiazepines. In 1982 the DEA reclassified Methaqualone as a Schedule I controlled substance, meaning it was no longer legal for medical use, but it continued to be a popular party drug in the 1970's and 80's since it was relatively easy to produce in clandestine drug labs, but fell out of favor after MDMA (ecstasy) became a popular club drug. Also the medical examiner said that the victim had both methaqualone and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in her system, at one time there was a prescription medication called Mandrax that was commonly prescribed for insomnia, it contained 250 mg of methaqualone and 25 mg of diphenhydramine. Mandrax became one of the first drugs to see frequent use as a date-rape drug in the 1960's and 70's, but this was supplanted by Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) becoming available in 1974, which quickly became known by the abbreviated term "roofie".
Both Cameron Monaghan and Chris Butler who appear in this episode have starred together in Shameless (2011).
