- A talented young opera singer, who is being mentored by the show's diva as her understudy, is poisoned at a rehearsal with Brackenreid, a great admirer of the soprano,, in charge of the investigation.
- When Elvira Cummings (Alison Jantzie), a young opera singer, is poisoned during a rehearsal of "La Bohème,", Detective Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) suspects the intended victim was Madame Rosa Hamilton (Measha Brueggergosman), the diva who stormed off stage moments before her protégé collapsed. Showing her thoroughness and skill, Dr. Grace's (Georgina Reilly) autopsy brings her to the same conclusion as Murdoch: the aspiring soprano was killed by a fast-acting poison, likely slipped into her prop glass by one of the other on-stage performers. A serious opera aficionado, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) takes a personal interest in the crime, and the famed and flirtatious soprano, inflaming the jealousy of his wife Margaret (Arwen Humphreys). Further investigation into the opera company uncovers almost unanimous disdain for Rosa, and a rumored love triangle between Rosa, her longtime lover, tenor Carlo Corsi (Paulino Nunes), and the dead singer. As Murdoch, Brackenreid and Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris) delve for answers, the dramatic behind the scenes machinations reach operatic heights.—Anonymous
- Detective Murdoch and Constable Crabtree investigate the death of Elvira Cummings, a member of a touring opera company who died on stage during the dress rehearsal for a forthcoming performance. She had just stepped into the staring role after the company's diva, Rosa Hamilton, walked off the stage. The death has all the earmarks of a poisoning - something that is subsequently confirmed by Dr. Emily Grace - but if it was in the wine she sipped during the rehearsal, then it was most likely meant for Scarlotti. When it's revealed that the diva has been receiving anonymous letters for some time, it seems clear that the threat comes from within the opera company. Inspector Brackenreid meanwhile is enamored of Hamilton and even volunteers to act as her body guard, much to the annoyance of Mrs. Brackenreid.—garykmcd
- As avid opera lover, Brackenreid is shocked when celebrated diva Rosa Hamilton possibly survives a poisoned drink which might be for her as it killed her La Bohème understudy and protegee Elvira Cummings, who took over last minute and died on stage muttering viola, so he eagerly volunteers to personally act as her bodyguard, despite jealous philistine wife Margaret. While Murdoch and Crabtree work out the many love-hate-triangles in the touring company, involving ambitious third soprano Anne Marie Thiery, the diva's impresario and enamored co-star tenor Carlo Corsi, as well as the director and even the secretly enamored stagehand in charge of props, Dr. Grace finds the poison was administered hours before the fatal performance and a sabotage nearly kills Rosa.—KGF Vissers
